This is the kind of thing that makes me really appreciate TH-cam and the internet in general. Where else would I have found this information in video form?
Had tried to get my 400lb 500R on the centerstand but no go. Saw this video and tried again and it went right up the on the first attempt. Then the real test..my vn750, a 500lb bike. More effort but first attempt was successful. I'm less than 150lbs and 60 years old. I've been riding for years and have never been able to get a bike up on its centerstand. Thanks! Great training vid!!
THANK YOU! i'm an instructor(*waves a hello from Dublin*) - your 2 minute vid is worth a 10 minute phone chat to a Trainee and a lot easier to understand. "A picture _really_ is worth a thousand words". ;)
Helped me. I've just started riding again after a 35 year break and bought a KLR650. I could NOT get it up on the center stand until I watched your video. Thanks.
Can't belive how stupid i feel now! I've been struggling with my GSXF 600 for 6 months, I watch a 2 minute Vid and BAM! Bike is now on the centrestand! LOL Thanks for the video!
Nice. I have a new Yamaha FZ6, After dragging it around the garage, (while trying to get it up on the stand) I watched your video. I weigh 155 lbs; the bike weighs 400. Using your technique, the bike jumped up on the stand. The only downers are 1)I had to use the passenger footpeg mount for the grab, since Yamaha elected not to install a handle for the right hand; and 2)a bruise on my right shin from something striking it. Good technique, though - and I've been riding a long time. THANX!
HAPPY DAY! Thank you so much for this video! Definitely the most helpful one I've seen - I'm 5'2, 50kg riding a ZZR250 (148kg) and I have a lot of trouble manouvring the bike's dead weight, but was able to get my bike on the stand after just two tries.
Several people have tried to explain to me how to easily move the bike onto the center stand and it never really made sense. I watched your video once and instantly understood (finally). Now I put it on the stand easily and with no effort, and I don't look like a tit wrestling with my bike. Thanks so much!
Great vid, perfect. I didn't know how to put a bike on the center stand correctly for about 10 years when I finally seen this technique somewhere. It works perfectly for me, I have GL 1500 Goldwing, 835 pounds dry. Another trick you may or may not know, if you drop you bike on its side, don't grab the handle bars and try to pick it back up. Turn around backwards, squat down and reach back and grab in the seat/gas tank area, then lift with you legs. I has worked great for me.
Nice, worked first try and much easier than expected on a VFR1200F. Thanks for the heads up! Coming from sportbikes (since 96 - ZX's, CBR's & R6's), but getting older, I've never had the pleasure of a center stand.
Very helpful, thank you for posting that. My bike came with the centerstand detached (it had broke off), and after I fixed it, I wasn't sure how to actually get it onto the stand until I watched this video. It helps to wear shoes instead of sandals too :-)
Hey thanks SO much for this. I have a vfr800 and its size is a bit daunting. I wa trying to do it with both hands on the handle bars and yanking it up .. scary as all hell. This method worked first time and was sooo simple. Thanks a bunch. Really appreciated.
Thanks, I was finally able to get my bike on the center stand using this video! It was still a bitch to do because I'm a little scrawny guy with a 500 pound Yamaha Maxim cruiser, but i'm the complete opposite of the guy paying a dealer to do everything on his bike and it was time for brake pads and tires so i buckled down and got it onto the stand finally to get the wheels off
IanJSeattle, you are "grand" man and for you it;s easy... If motorcycle is really heavy and person is "low weight" that should use left feet, instead of right, and it would be more easier because the emphasis to centralstand will be larger and more efficient.
Your bike looks like a Teeny Weeny Kawasaki ZZR 75R with you next to it lol ,, I have a 2003 Kawasaki ZZR600 , Thanks,, its been 35 years since I used a Centre Stand : )
The sales rep at one BMW dealership I visited showed me this! Super easy! I think it was the F700GS. Then I tried on another GS a day ago, had the worst time trying to do it.. have no idea why. It just wasn't over-caming easily.... worst was trying to get it off the stand, had the side stand down....
Ian, this is an excellent explanation, best video on YT I've found, and the description I keep getting from friends and mechanics. But I - at 5'4/140 - still have only 50% success rate with lifting my Yamaha XJ600 onto its (aftermarket but appropriate) center stand. I'm plenty strong, and only attempt it when I know my energy level is up to such an exertion, yet still...! Any further tips for smaller people with medium to large bikes??
You're right, I'm being a bit over cautious, I do wind up using my hand to lift, but mostly my body weight to do it. I ride a 600+lb vmax, using my hand mostly would mean I'd be in a truss. :)
Good info,I have a '74 CB750 and found out,the hard way,why the left side plastic cover gets destroy, yep,by trying to get the bike on the center stand. The way I do it is by geting behind the bike, pulling with both hands as I push down on the stand with my left foot, sounds primitive?ohh yea it is but works for me.
Mate, that was a very useful video. Thanks, but the main problem is not getting the bike on the main stand. The problem is getting it off the main stand. That was a light bike. High and heavy bike. That requires some skill to get it off the mainstand
Not to hurt your feelings but wrong, yea had most of it right. How the center stand works is. level the bike as he showed. put 20 pounds pressure on the center stand, ya take your left foot off the ground putting all your weight on the center stand. its the total pressure on your right foot that raises your bike. pull up with your right arm. its the pressures with your right leg and right arm that bring the bike up. you don"t have to sit there and jerk.
i always put the side stand down before puting center stand down just incase it tips cause u may drop it when when putting the center stand down u never know
good vid if your bigger than the bike. but i'm 150lbs and i ride a BMW 800RT, that's a 500lb bike (dry) and i have to use leverage to get my bike onto the center stand. simply lifting & straightening out my back would only injure me.
Hey dude, this is a good video except one major problem, you tell the person to lift with their right hand. You shouldn't be lifting with your hand, you should be using your body weight and your hand just to steady! Otherwise you stand a good chance of hurting your back. Can you update it?
You look like you're about 9 feet tall beside that tiny bike. Try a 1980 CB750 when you are a regular sized human. I can do it but there is definitely a lot more grunting and profanity!
Remember that your legs are generally much stronger than your arms, so to avoid looking like a twat, just push down with your leg and use your hands to stabilise
pretty sure yamaha vmax fall into the category of poorly designed center stands. after this vid and 10 minutes of trying i ended up just asking my neighbor for an extra set of hands to help pull.
THIS IS NOT EASY!!! ONE BIT. WHO EVER DESIGNED THE YAMAHA XJ650 SHOULD BE ARRESTED. YAMAHA'S ENGINEERS NEED TO HAVE ENGINES DROPPED ON THEM!!! GO BACK TO MAKING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS YAMAHA BECAUSE YOU DON'T HOW TO MAKE MOTORCYCLES.
Maxim or Seca? I got my Maxim 650 on the center stand finally using this video and I weigh about 150lbs soaking wet. What do you have against the engines? Other than the starter clutch being accessed by splitting the cases there's nothing wrong with them, most of the funny noises they make are totally normal for those engines. I fucking love my 650 Maxim it's an excellent bike and it was easy for me to learn to ride on

very helpful. My new bike only has a centre stand, so i've no choice but to learn to use it.

thanks a lot for this. i'm new to biking and have an 06 250 and this helped a lot.

Thanks for a great video. I couldn't do it after the first two videos I watched, you taught me all I needed in a minute. Amazing!!!

Thank you for the lesson! I learned how to put the bike on the stand by your video!
It is very easy, as it turned out :-)
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
Awesome video! clear and concise! Kudos for you!
Thanks, I was finally able to get my bike on the center stand using this video! Nice video. Man, you look like a giant next to that bike!
Dude, this is sooooo useful! Thank you so much for posting, I can't believe it's so easy :-)
sweet demo dude ... helped me out.
well done mate this was very helpful
Thank you very much for the video. Very good info.
awesome doode. I ride a katana and its freakin heavy as hell. your technique works like a charm.
thanks to this, its really help.
OMG! It worked on the first try! 5 stars! Thank you very much! And it was'nt hard at all!
shucks...i always knew i was doing it wrong, that explains why my center stand always gets messed up. thanks a lot!
IanJSeattle, you are "grand" man and for you it;s easy... If motorcycle is really heavy and person is "low weight" that should use left feet, instead of right, and it would be more easier because the emphasis to centralstand will be larger and more efficient.

Thanks man, my new Yamaha Super Tenere is a bitch getting up but now its not so bad now i know how to properly get it on the center stand. Thanks
Thank you! I will go to try!
Thanks a lot for this video! :)
Well done. Thank you.

do you need to be able to do this for your bike test? cos i cant do it...
Cool,Thanx a bunch!

Where did you get the basket bro?
Any reason you use the right foot? I have a GS500F and find using the left foot easier. Personal preference I guess?
yes, it's very helpful.
THANK YOU!
very helpfull, thx
I like your basket, where can I find one?
Good info,I have a '74 CB750 and found out,the hard way,why the left side plastic cover gets destroy, yep,by trying to get the bike on the center stand. The way I do it is by geting behind the bike, pulling with both hands as I push down on the stand with my left foot, sounds primitive?ohh yea it is but works for me.

Great video. Thanx. By the way how tall are you..?
He is ,,,,, Really Tall
nice tip!

@IanJSeattle Thanks!

i always put the side stand down before puting center stand down just incase it tips cause u may drop it when when putting the center stand down u never know

o you need alot of strength. i tried and he bike won't budge i just started taking license and this was my 1st lesson.
Gosh, this guy is so big that the bike looks like a toy in front of him.
That looked like Hulk putting a toy motorcycle on center-stand.
@stot3
sit on your bike and hold your clutch
and Roll Forward
RIP, should have watched this before breaking my brake lever.
You look like you're about 9 feet tall beside that tiny bike. Try a 1980 CB750 when you are a regular sized human. I can do it but there is definitely a lot more grunting and profanity!
straddle it and rock it forward using the handlebars Id imagine
great. now how do I bring it down 😑
there really easy to do it your 9ft tall
Nice Ninja 500R
That's not a 500r thats a ninja 250r from 2007 I own one in black.
David Hedges I had an 06 Ninja looks very similar. Well until I stripped the fairings.
Waliq Knolle yeah they do both of them took their look from the zzr600
Im 5'8" 130lbs 750 katana. Its not possible
ted mosby?
why not just put the side stand and then use the center stand?? plus that way u know the bike ain't going to tip on u
A Vmax just being a Vmax can get away with a shitty designed centre stand ,, its like someone putting a Masterpiece into a crappy picture frame lol
It's not that easy when your bike is +500lbs.
What's going on with your hair, man?
hahhahaahaha oh hell no
Mark Paton I think his hair looks great.
Mark Paton Helmet hair
When you are that Big you can wear your hair however you like LOL
OMG that Top Case is so ugly!
THIS IS NOT EASY!!! ONE BIT. WHO EVER DESIGNED THE YAMAHA XJ650 SHOULD BE ARRESTED. YAMAHA'S ENGINEERS NEED TO HAVE ENGINES DROPPED ON THEM!!! GO BACK TO MAKING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS YAMAHA BECAUSE YOU DON'T HOW TO MAKE MOTORCYCLES.
altlandf because nobody has ever dropped a Honda!
Maxim or Seca? I got my Maxim 650 on the center stand finally using this video and I weigh about 150lbs soaking wet. What do you have against the engines? Someone dropped their bike and they're mad about it
