    I truly wish you all the best. There are not many companies left who are gamers that make games for gamers. I could probably count them on one hand with fingers to spare. Im in my 40's now and I keep getting more and more disappointed and pessimistic in regards to "the industry." Its fallen so far from what it once was. Im very much looking forward to what you all can achieve and will support you in full. Its been too long for a game to take me and immerse me in its world, lore, gameplay and story. Take your time as this looks absolutely stunning so far.

      Indeed, since most of the big companies are run by yuppies and not gamers/gamedevs.. may explain a lot why games fails to deliver the experience that they used to do 20 years ago, before all the yuppies got their eyes on how they can profiteer from the gaming industry (especially the post-WoW era)

    These guys are literally making the game I've been conceptualizing for over a decade in my head. Procedural generation with advanced AI algorithms, massive game world spanning hundreds of miles, medieval fantasy setting.. Everything down to the slightly-cartoony art style. I am extremely interested to give this a try. I hope the gameplay and the amount of assets they create for this game can sustain the massive scope of its world. At the end of the day, those are the two most vital things for a game this size.

    YEESSSS. A return to real RPGs. I am beyond stoked for this. The experiences I had in those older RPGs still mean so very much to me. They've in no small part shaped who've I've become for the better. People have lived real-life years in those games. They teach important moral and mythic lessons like what used to be taught by cultures with oral traditions, or so I have fun imagining them to. The future of RPGs have great potential to positively influence and greatly inspire future generations, in my opinion. Keep up the great work! I'm so excited to see what comes! And if whoever is reading this hasn't already, watch A Promise Unfulfilled by Indigo Gaming. That documentary really does justice to how impressive those earlier RPGs were. As well as articulates the deep desire so many have for more adventures like the ones we had in, say, Daggerfall. I'm wishing the whole team all the best! This is so cool. Cheers!

    This gives me an idea of guardians of ruins not rising to defend it until you actually try to take something.
    Could make for interesting quest structure. Tasked to go into a ruin and examine something and can just walk out without fighting. And for a secondary objective you also have to examine one of the artifacts which normally would cause the guardians to awaken, thankfully you learned the ancient language for this very situation. You assure the guardians that you just want to study it and are not planning to take it. They then loom over you making sure you don't leave until putting it back and some block the exit.

    • @OnceLostGames
      @OnceLostGames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      That is actually the point of these and similar guardian statues throughout the Archipelago. They guard tombs. The wealthier the dead, the greater the riches, the more statues a thief must fight off. Makes dungeons with untouched treasure a lot more believable.

      @@ZyrusSmith I take it you never actually *played* Arena and Daggerfall, but just looked at a screenshot and decided "ew they're old and pixely."
      No other TES game came close to the level of ambition Daggerfall had, and few captured the same feeling of a living, breathing world that existed beyond the player and their role in it - and I say that as someone who adores the later TES games. So yes, I am *very* excited to see how the ambitious concepts of Daggerfall can be realized after a quarter-century of experience, innovation, and technological development in the video game industry!

    • @ZyrusSmith
      @ZyrusSmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Alfwin Ambition and quality are two different things. Regardless of how good Daggerfall *wanted* to be, what it ended up being was an unplayable mess with badly designed dungeons, an unresponsive world, and some of the worst balance video games have ever seen.

    • @Alfwin
      @Alfwin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ZyrusSmith I, personally, enjoy Daggerfall quite a lot, despite its flaws (which it definitely has a lot of, I can't argue that!). And, just because Daggerfall didn't quite live up to its ambition, doesn't mean The Wayward Realms won't, either. That's why this project interests me: with the devs having 20+ years more experience, and technology allowing for substantially more complex games than in the 90s, Wayward Realms has the potential to become everything that Daggerfall had hoped to be.

    I don't care HOW long it takes y'all, if the archipelago has as much land mass (or more!) to traverse as Daggerfall when you add it all up, and if it can exceed Daggerfall in gameplay, graphics, options, paths...you'll have an all-time great RPG on your hands that will be loved by MANY! Systems like combat and magic are in their infancy at the moment, so it wouldn't be too exciting of a showcase at the moment. We do want to get a video out to you guys showcasing some of the prog gen at work though, so keep an eye out for that.

    What's interesting to me, is that by using the name "The Wayward Realms," it's almost begging for a lot of additional possibility. What I mean by that, is other lands that exist in this fictional world. And not just other continents or islands, but other realms as in worlds/dimensions. It could even be woven into the lore and world building for future games.
    I really hope you get a source of significant funding; whether that's crowdfunding or a traditional publisher, I don't know. I would like to see this game out in the next 5 years or less - I would love it if it came out in 3 years. I'm really looking forward to it. I just know if that's going to happen, you will probably need a team of around 40 people. These kinds of games are massive and require a lot of content, quests, coding, story, narrative and general interesting gameplay mechanics.
    I truly want this to succeed.

    I can't tell you how much Daggerfall meant to me as a kid back in '96. Its ambition was so vast, and so beyond any other game, it felt like it had arrived from some other world. Subsequent Elder Scrolls entries have each been good games in their own rights, but at the same time they were on some level profoundly disappointing in how they each took successive steps back from that ambition, each playing it more and more safe, and trying to be all things to an ever-widening audience (as only makes sense to the commercial demands on a big development studio). A spiritual successor to Daggerfall is honestly something I never thought I'd even hear proposed, let alone one with Julian and the others actually attached. The idea is... pretty intriguing.

  • @trenchcoats4life891

    I got into Daggerfall a few years back and was blown away by the fact that there were so many options with your character creation, the unique and eerie feeling of the dungeons and the tough difficulty and lore absorbed me into that world. Truly, it has become my favorite Elder Scrolls game.
    With that said, I began searching for Julian Le Fay in the hopes one day he'd make something like that again. I recall the new studio and game but it has been probably a year since I last checked.
    To see this trailer and giving me those Daggerfall feelings in desolate caves makes me very hopeful. I know I am really late and was only born when that game came out, but you all have no clue how much it has affected me and my love for those types of RPG'S. I don't only wish your studio the best, but I will be buying this and a big box collector's edition if that comes out.

    I'm super hyped for this, if for no other reason, because of the philosophy you guys bring to the table. At 44 yrs old, It's refreshing to see devs taking it seriously. I mean, a lot of games are taken seriously by the creators, but are not remotely close to what I personally consider true RPG. Way too many games with that descriptive offer little to no actual customization of the character or in world consequences to actions. Thank you so much for the level of mechanics you seem to be shooting for.
    With that said, I have to toss in a request for the third person option. I know the level of development to pull it off can be tedious and time consuming. Still, there just isn't anything quite like switching to third person, and just gazing for 15 min, at a character you spent 3 hours perfecting, in the amazing looking full set of armor you died 37 times to acquire, with a stunning open world of exploration in the background.

I get the sense this project is trying to be a spiritual successor to Daggerfall? Well, I was a young man in 1996, but I got the sense it was designed as this toolkit, like a DnD box full of things you can spend years playing and being anything you want. With videogames in the fantasy RPG today space you ask, "do we do Elder scrolls or do we do Dragon Age?" I get the sense everyone here say's "yes."
    keep on keeping on.
    Risen? that game that has the identical main theme to fallout 3, (seriously look it up, I think it's a lawsuit but I think the same composer did both) failed at 90 percent, but it nailed the immersion and branching paths. Outward is another.

      The trouble with direction you mentioned, assuming it was from the Indigo's blog post, was only early on in the project, which is not uncommon at that conception stage. We have had a united vision of this project for quite some time. A spiritual successor to Daggerfall is the goal, taking those core pillars and adding some modern day conveniences. Along with the Virtual Game Master system we are planning, it very much should add to that DnD toolkit feeling.

    I am a relatively young gamer and never had the chance to experience Daggerfall and other classic RPGs myself so far. I hope I'll get into your new work of art, diving in another magical world. So looking forward to it.
    One question: will it also come on consoles? I really hope, because a Gaming PC is too expensive for me.
    Best wishes to you and keep going your own way! Thanks for that awesome look into your work of art! 😊🙏

    I'm so stoked! Will there be romance options? Including an inclusive system?

    • @OnceLostGames
      @OnceLostGames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We really only want to do romance if we can give it the proper attention it deserves, and not just as a bar you fill up by doing side quests. Unfortunately at this time, we have many other key systems that need attention, so romance will have to wait.

      The main focus is 1st person, but we wish to provide a 3rd person option as well.
