I love it! The '87 FJ60 was the last carbureted Toyota to come to the states. Also the last with manual trans and windows. The only circuit board is the AC control module. This particular one is in astonishing shape.
Can't let Fred one up ya! Love the 60 Series too. Neighbor has one on skinny 33's. They look prefect with the skinny tall stock look. The ARB bumbers look great on them too.
One of the best looking 60s I've seen in a while. That front bumper looks very similar to the ARB style bull bar on the front of my Toyotas. Always wanted a 60 myself, for the same reasons Dave said it's really that in between model, still rugged, but with modern updates. Same reason I still want to add a 85 pickup to my collection. Last of the solid axle and first of the fuel injection.
Beats the hell of the old and new Toyota Land Cruiser mall crawlers here in this neck of the woods. Your camera man has a nice rig and shoots some good videos. Can’t beat the old school SBC’s.
Sending Love for Dave doing an awesome job making content and in a approachable manner. Appreciate the work you’re putting in Dave and chopping it up with us I the comments.
Next time you're in Salt Lake city, look up the landcruiser heritage museum. It is one of the closest places to heaven I've experienced. It even smells like old toyotas!
This is my favorite generation Land Cruiser for sure. I follow a page on Facebook where a member had just posted video of his 6.0 LS swapped 60. This look with LS power is perfection. Absolutely love the look of this one, Cameron's right, the proportions on this thing are perfect with those tires. All it needs is the LS!
Love the FJ60. I owned one for a while and regret selling it. My was fecal brown color. The 60 was carbureted. The 62 series with the square headlights had EFI.
That is an awesome baja truck, the more i travel deep into trails in the baja peninsula the more my idea of an ideal baja suv changes, the trails get narrow and rocky and that changes every season with the heavy rains and hurricanes, that would be great of remote camping and exploring, good luck with the build, its going to end up better that you tought.
Love it, if that carb won’t run in the secondaries suspect that specter carb hat I fought the smaller aluminum one for years till I finally figured out that they make a weird air problem
I always enjoy watching you build projects Dave . I spent alot of my younger days off roading & fixing my truck. Nothing says``lets play in the snow`` better than a VW Bug . I`ll be looking forward to you working your magic on this rig . Thank You for sharing your video, and letting us hang out .
@@thedirtheadshed I Loved that bug, wish you still had it too . I got my first bug stuck in snow. I used the snow brush to keep the engine running while I got out side and bounced on the back until it worked its way free. I then ran along side, hopped in, and drove off with it.
as an aussie, these are iconic here. caught my attention. the 80 series landcruiser (or lexus lx450) was more popular due to a better engine range and more capable off-road.
@@thedirtheadshed can you still find 80s over there? The popular competitor is the Nissan patrol (Safari) can you find them over there because I'm not sure if they were domestically available to you guys...
Dave is working on a 60 series, Fred is working on an 80 series, and I just got a fresh stack of stickers from Dave himself. This is what I call a very Merry Christmas.
We did a LS3 in a 84 FJ60 at JBA. There’s a few pics on my IG feed. It was in the Toyota Tan. Totally unassuming other than the 35s. Kept it quiet with a big Walker muffler. He had it painted after we had it at the SD International Auto Show. Still tan.😂
Great choice Dave! I have an FJ62 that I use for camping / 4wheeling exclusively. She’s a slow gas guzzling pig, but I wouldn’t have her any other way.
Damn, I was totally bummed when this ended!!! What a great platform to start with and also my favorite body style. The boxy design has cool lines and reminds me of the cool boxy lines of a 72-79 Ford F100. Can’t wait for the follow-up video! Thanks for sharing and have a Merry Christmas and healthy New Year…
That's a beautiful cruiser!!! Love them! Had a 1991 fj80 in the factory two tone desert dune paint n graphics..such a fun rig but EXPENSIVE parts and hard to find...and 10mpg no matter how I drove it and worse with the 33s on it...wish I had those axles though!!!!!
Aftermarket fuel injection would make that thing way better. Usually I’m against non yota engines in Toyotas, but this works. I want a 60 like this to go with my FZJ80.
60 = carb, no power window options, 4 speed manual. 62 = electronic fuel injection, power windows, 4 speed automatic. Common H55F upgrade was the 5 speed option we never got factory in the US.
My brother have one with the fancy option of electric windows. It’s bone stock and the engine finally give up after 35 of service, so my brother rebuilt the straight 6 and now is running again and ready for another 35 years more.
sweet truck. so just a quick clarification - the 60 was still carbureted and the 62 brought injection. 60s were a 4-speed here in the US but an H55 5-speed swap is common.
was waiting for this. the video makes it sound like you could have your choice of manual/auto and carb/EFI straight from the factory. while these things are relatively swappable, it seemed a little misleading in the video.
@@thedirtheadshed im a home dad (stay at home dad) so budget is pretty low. But was able to convince my wife we needed a jeep and got a JK for the family last year so I guess anything is possible haha

Nice. Many getting restored here as well
Snow and a vintage Landcruiser...I'm jealous! Great looking rig!
