Hacked Steam Boiler Converted to Hot Water Replaced with Bosch Greenstar Combi

  • They hacked this steam boiler, leaving all the steam trim and controls, converting it to a dangerous hot water hydronic boiler using 2x4's to support the circulators. No wonder the relief valve constantly blew steam! We made some temporary adjustments while schduling the Bosch ZWB-42-3 Greenstar 151 Combi tankless boiler and water heater.

And gives them time to use it. My office offers discounts on gym memberships so they can lower our health insurance but we work so many hours no one has the energy or time to use it.

pay for gym membership and having them use tooling that's not working them out at all. 🤪🤪🤪
some friends own gym's and I have never worked out or been a member to any **beyond installing/repairing equipment and doing contracting work there**
I'm not built at all in upper body and my lower body has dwindled majorly over the years although I still have fairly large legs.
I can still run circles around the majority of the gym lifters and showboaters, especially when doing real world things. because the vast majority of them tend to yank/bash/smash and surge strength like they're power lifting, in which works about null in real life.

Brings back memories. I was my Dad's "helper" in the late 70's and all of the 80's in Northern MN where it actually gets cold. Weil Mclain was the only boiler he would install. What I don't miss... Anything metal when it is 40 below, green copper, 120lb milk crates full of black pipe fittings, getting 500lb boilers down stairs that were made for children and dogs

  • @nightone9720
    @nightone9720 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh I remember not knowing how to use pipe wrenches. It's all about placement, leverage, feel, and knowing how to use your body. When breaking tough pipe connections always posture up, tighten your traps, and push the wrench away from you with your arm straight and your shoulder locked. I am not a body builder and weigh as much as Daniel but it's all about experience. You don't have to be a body builder although MIKEY PIPES is absolutely right about taking care of your health. You just have to understand physics. Same thing with leverage. "Give me a fulcrum and a lever long enough and I will move the world." Archemides principle.

falling down stairs is no bueno. a close relative recently did just that, got lucky someone else was there to help right away, but did injure right arm(broken), bruised all over and had already fell and broke left hand. in a big world of hurt currently.
in process of add grab bars, added outdoor railing and repaired out of level concrete sidewalk/steps, remodel bathroom and it keeps snowing piles, with drifts and freezing temperatures.
so far I've worked multiple hours outdoors in the coldest days, shoveled tons of snow at multiple places and had to clear snow drifts off roofs to uncover furnace vent/intakes.
all the while, I'm supposed to be doing doing major remodeling of a vacant home way across town. ** if not for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all ** insert every one of Muprhy's Laws you can think of and all that you cannot to infinity. 🤬 🤯

Did a big central vacuum install for a store display, my good friend was there working with me. I laid the while pipe system out and when it was done I stood back and said: "That looks TITS!!" He just looked at me confused. But like you guys, I do my damndest to make my pipe work, even the stuff in the walls that you'll never see, as perfect and correct as possible. Might just be a vacuum cleaner, but I want the pipe laid out like you do the plumbing.

Good morning Mike I hope Mike's dad has a speedy recovery . I noticed two thing 1 the lines for future use were left un capped ( not even some tape ) , 2 the gas valve is next to the Unistrut and that is a hand ripper . I don't know if you got my message before on getting a hydraulic spreader . Use that to separate the boiler sections . If you are truly concerned about you and your employees health here is why . No banging with a sledge hammer . Less noise , less dust in the air , less possible strain injury . Oh yeah much faster and time is money . If you buy it from CMF in LIC,NY or Amazon they don't assemble them and they do need to be bleed too . But it is very simple to do . I would be glad to explain how .

We see alot of old failed tanks in cincinnati. Not alot of companies still service them around here and these valves make for very quick change outs or make it is just to check that the tank has the right pressure. Keep it up

so...I've mentioned buying my house a few months ago before....and it came with a 'complementary' combi unit of your most 'favorite' manufacturer of the "240E" variety....I've learned a LOT these past few months about the ins and outs and varieties of space heating. Of one note, mine happens to be a monoflo 1 zone loop feeding some cast iron rads (I AM LEARN!). second, having watched a recent vid, raising supply temp to 165F has made my comfort way higher in these recent single digit days...but third, now...on a scale of 1 to OMG WTFWTT (what the eff were they thinking) I noticed something missing from my loop that I've seen in EVERY other one of your vids and other youtubers....a primary loop manifold. mine literally exits the boiler, through the expansion tank, in and out of all the rads, then comes back around and returns DIRECTLY into the boiler to complete the loop. None of those "closely based Ts", no other pumps, its relying on the internal pump completely to push water out to the loop.....jfc things just keep getting so good for me right? ON TOP of that, on the colder days, I've noticed condensation pooling on top of the unit around the exhaust ring. I've had to go down to wipe up water multiple times a day to keep it in check. I have tried to tighten the clamp a bit but no dice... I have two carbon monoxide detectors right in front of the boiler one which is brand new from ADP as it's monitored. gotta love my luck....somehow it hasn't died on me. on average my DeltaT is about 12F between supply and return. So....just how screwed am I? will I be lucky to not have a complete pump failure in 2 years time? ugggggh

Is that not code to ground the box in your area? Also why did you cut the ground going to circulator pumps wiring coming in? Is there ground on the pumps to connect to? As always keep feeding us! @@PipeDoctor interesting, here in Ohio ya must have a green grounding screw attached to that raised spot in the box with ground wire of the same size as wire being used connected to the rest of the ground. Also, also after I commented, I also noticed that the outlet was not a GFCI. unless it was on a gfci breaker, I would assume one would be needed since so close to the water. ok Mike ,you might be old enough to remember the old glow core high efficient product? beyond that first question my question for you is, have you seen any condensing boilers last 20 years consistently as a product line. I can only think of one that might fit that and it is not a wall hung. asking because your very knowledgeable, and seem to work on more condensing boilers that i come across.

88.7 efficient? Thought those were supposed to be in the mid-high 90’s?

Wow! Being polite to Steve Lav. I unsubscribed his channel when I saw a video of him leaving nonworking parts at the job after making repairs. Total pet peeve of mine. Haven't gone back to his channel since. The company I work for has cleaned up so many attics, crawlspaces and mechanical rooms after other contractors. We all should strive to do quality work like Mikey Pipes.

Shouldn't that electrical box have a ground fault receptacle in it because of the basement and potential wet location? The air separator could spray water etc...

Is that CO high for high fire? Was making 20x more carbon monoxide on high fire
Does adjusting it in low fire carry through to high fire?

That 1/2 inch PEXB is actually only 3/8 after fittings are installed…flow is limited by the fitting ID

Mikey, just a question... I live in EU and I wonder why in the States the wall boilers are installed on a wood panel
I love Bosch, I work as technician for them since 2004. Very few problems if all is done like it should.

Most basements are made of either poured concrete, block, or rubble stone walls. Plywood looks clean and gives the unit a wood surface to mount securely and attach pipe brackets and other hardware for the copper and iron pipes.
