Chuck was the only powerlifter I saw that when he was up to lift ,there would be an audible buzz in the crowd and many Would stand to see him .It really was a totally different feel when he lifted .

Chuck is like 5'7"??!! That is the biggest 5'7 I have ever seen!! I'm 5'7" so that brought a on a grin. My workouts have improved lately due to watching the Westside VS The World documentary and seeing everyone's intensity. Matt I appreciate your videos and the knowledge you bring!

I wonder if he used to be taller but due to surgeries on his back he lost some inches. Every video I see he looks a normal height (5'10 ish) but then again I always thought Panora was big but hes only 5'6.

I don't know chuck and never trained with him. But I was doing a Lexen meet and Chuck was watching me pull. And after the meet he came up to talk to me about deadlifting. One of the greatest squatters ever just wanted to give me some tips. That's pretty cool. He didn't have to do that. We all know he's an intense dude but he also seemed like someone who just wanted to help others . Unsurprisingly I had the exact same thing happen with Lou.

I like hearing you and Dave Tate tell these stories, it allows me to have an appreciation for the history and everything these guys did for the sport without the multiply stuff ruining it for me ( I get that it’s still hard, not one of those people that thinks you can just throw on a shirt or suit and immediately do more weight, I just don’t like the idea of the suits or shirts or how the standard for the lifts weren’t followed very strictly by any means by the end of its popularity)

Matt Dimel must have been one bad dude!
I was around when he was competing and I thought he was vying for the 1000 lb squat mark when only a few like Moran and Hatfield had hit that number.
Late 80s Was around that time.
Then I heard he went down in a squat and broke both his legs or something like that.
Vogelpohl looked like a real tough wild guy and Dimel bodyslammed him!
    Wow!
I remember Dimel just looking like a big strong clean cut guy I thought.

That was all I had to go by but I don't remember him with facial hair or all tattooed up and rough looking.
      Thanks for your response Matt.
It would be great if you could do a video on him.
I am pretty knowledgeable on powerlifting history relative to most and I know next to nothing about him except what I related above.

I always ask myself, why are the boys from westside aren't very good deadlifters? The best deadlifts I seen from westside are somewhere in der range of 700 till 800 pounds and there are so many guys who deadlift way more without a suit. I never understood this.

    • @WenningStrength
