    Thank you so much for making this video. I like many other people in the Happy Planner community want a heavy duty punch that is able to punch through laminate to make covers. Unfortunately the HP punch is limited to a few sheets of paper. I feel the same way about your review of the punch. I don’t like the extra space. Yes we know the Arc is for a different disc bound system but, we are looking for an alternative that will work. This may not be a big deal to some people but, it is to me. On a side note, if anyone is interested in the HP punch, buy the pink one. It has the guidelines for the classic and big size. It should be called 2 in 1. If I would have known, I never would have purchased the blue one (classic size only).

    I found your video because I got the arc punch and punched a page for my happy planner and since the arc punch is slightly more shallow, the page sticks out. That makes me crazy. I'm so disappointed. Now I'm wondering if the happy planner is going to be incompatible with other discbound sheets. I was counting on mixing and matching with other brands, printing my own forms, and even punching some rocketbook pages to include in my happy planner. Ugh. It took me forever to decide on a happy planner and now I feel like i have a 2023 planner that may not actually be useful for what I wanted.

      @@davidemanuelgarciaaguilar7779 I use arc punch and it works nicely, the only problem is that some companies selling a4 insets have 12 (Action, Oxford) and other 11 (Arc/staples, Clairfountain) holes; the a5 is more universal. Anyway I like the arc puncher - easy and fast to use (I don’t need to center the page) so especially for someone who will make their own planner/notebook I can encourage to buy it

  • @trixitronic5380
    @trixitronic5380 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for comparing these two hole punches - I found your video very informative.
    I have an A5 ARC leather notebook so jumped straight in and bought the ARC punch the moment it became available to buy in the UK again. Like you say, it’s sturdy enough and it copes with punching laminated pages admirably. All that said, I’ve found punching pages for my notebook really frustrating and, until this video, figured that this was down to human error.
    As you’ve mentioned, the ARC punch punches a large yet very shallow hole. Other TH-camrs have jumped in and stated that this is probably to accommodate the ARCs discs. As an ARC user I have found that my punched pages wiggle around a lot yet don’t turn easily. The pages also pull out of my notebook far too easily - often whilst trying to turn the pages. I don’t know if this something that other ARC users have had an issue with, whether mine isn’t calibrated correctly or if I’m doing something wrong. All I know is that my notebook and punch have been gathering dust on the shelf and I’ve rather grudgingly gone back to using my Filofax.

      Thank you for your lovely comments and I am sorry to hear that you have had problems with that particular punch. I was trying to use the punch to make covers for my Happy Planner Mini because the Happy Planner Punch does not punch well through laminated pages and I was hoping the arc would be a good alternative, but like you said, it was too shallow and my covers would just peel right off without much use. Here's hoping that one day we both find solutions to our predicaments. 🙂🙂🙂

  • @XOAliciaMarie
    @XOAliciaMarie ปีที่แล้ว

    I TOTALLY agree! When I first started making my own half Letter planners… I had a happy planner classic disc punch that I was using to get by
    But when I went to hole punch a clear plastic cover that I cut with my cricket machine… It literally broke the happy planner punch!
    So I was forced to go buy a new punch and I heard about the ARC.
    It’s taken me like six months to realize this, but my half letter planner paper would pop out so much easier when I fold back the cover to write in it like a notebook.
    gotten to the point of totally annoying the more that I used the clear planner.
    I even tried to buy 24-28 lb paper (thicker paper ) mostly because you really don’t want to create your own planner and planner inserts with cheap copy paper
    But I did notice that even the 24 pound bright white paper still pops the page that I’m currently on out of the planner when I fold the cover back
    So I decided to take one of my old, happy planner classics, and insert my own nine hole punch with the arc, and noticed a tremendous difference.
    The thing is I really wish the happy planner company would come out with just one hole punch because these things are expensive and a lot of people now have different size happy planners
    I’ve got some of the minis and the slim ones… I also still have half Letter planners/notebooks
    But now that I’m seeing a tremendous difference because I’m actually now back at the happy planner classic size… I now have to go buy a new, happy planner hole punch 😩
    Definitely need to find a coupon to buy one in the store to get it way cheaper .

    The Arc punch was designed to use with the Arc discs and not the Happy Planner Discs so that makes sense that it wouldn't work with your Happy Planner discs (I am assuming that each brand's discs are different but please let me know if they are the same, I would love to know. Also, does your Happy Planner punch work with laminated paper (I saw another video where it didn't look like it would work with laminated paper) - it seems that if you want to punch through laminated paper to make your own covers, the Arc punch system is the only option out there right now for "disc" bound planners that I've been able to find. Is that your understanding too? Thanks so much if you get the chance to reply.

    • @ChunkyMiniHappyPlanner
      @ChunkyMiniHappyPlanner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like I say in all my videos, planning is all about personal preference. Just because this hole did not work for me doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't love it. I don't particularly care for my rings to be at the edge of the paper, other people love it or even better, are not nitpicky enough to care (oh how I wish I could be so care free - hehe.) So this video was only intended to compare the two, show what they do and what they look like, and since I gave my opinion I guess I might have come off sounding like this wasn't going to work at all in oppose to it wasn't going to work with my preference.
      I have never tried to use The Happy Planner punch with a laminated piece just because I don't want to potentially ruin my punch, so I'm unsure on that one. The reason I tried the Arc punch was to make covers, but like I said, I don't like how easily my papers come off the rings with a shallow punch so I sure didn't want a cover that was going to pull/ fall off so easily. I have heard of no other products at the moment. I hope I answered all of your questions. Thanks! 🙂

      I almost thought of buying it until I saw that review! I went to Levenger's website and it looks like they sell a full line of planner supplies for making disc bound journals with everything already pre-punched so I imagine their punch is meant for "light" use for the occasional insert you might make yourself and not really meant for heavy duty punching. I don't know what the mfg. warranty is. If WRMK would have just made a punch for this as well as they made their Cinch, that would have been so awesome!

    We all have preferences. I'm not picky horribly but I do feel that the happy planner punched paper will hold up better if the paper will be used heavily. But my issue is the lack of punching consistency the hp punch lacks. I'm crafty enough to make a guide but I wish it came with one even a magnet piece.

    After getting and usi ng my MAMBI punch about a year ago, I pulled it out to make come booklets. First I wanted to punch some dollar tree cutting boards and some calendar pages for my covers. The calendar pages worked fine. The cutting board not so fine. I did do this previously so was kinda miffed. Then to remove the cutting board I destroyed it. And had several bits stuck in the punch. 2 of the hole punch pieces came out in the process. I reinserted them but now one sticks with each use and then pops out. Very sad. And much paint is missing too due to my removing the stuck sheet. Came here cause I am looking for a more heavy duty tool. Sad that there is such a dramatic difference between the two. Amazon reviews recommended your video. Others there felt the Arch was more sturdy. I found my MAMBI punch for the Big sized planner to be clunky and with this total breakdown (ok I was risking it with the plastic sheet, I do admit), I feel like I'll end up buying the Arch and just living with the outcome. I do have a couple of those carrier type covers for my planner so expect my sheets to stay on the rings...
    Thanks for making this comparison video!

Didn't see a reason to have two punches but since I have tried a friends and don't like it because with Arc you can make divider pages, dash boards and covers but the H.p. punch won't do anything but paper. Michele Pace Do you have problems with page turning and pages not being held securely enough? I find that if I use 100gsm paper the pages fall out far too easily after being flicked through a few times. I’ve found that using 120gsm paper helps remedy this but then the paper doesn’t turn smoothly. I’d really appreciate any recommendations because I love my ARC notebook but it really isn’t working for me at the moment.

  • @jessicajovel7162
    @jessicajovel7162 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for shaking the pages 😅 seriously, maybe not for you, but for me it was sturdy enough, so maybe I will purchase the ARC (even though no one sells it in my country), and yet, still be able to combine it with a happy planner (which does arrive to office depot in my country). The extra space it leaves though, it's messy, I guess I might deal with it, but I don't think it will go well if I try to sell notebooks combining both systems, I'd have to purchase the ARC discs only.

    I have both. Both of them have disappointed me. Neither will punch chipboard or laminate. I like the smoothness of the ARC. With my Happy Planner, a laminate piece of cardstock got stuck and I had to take it apart. With the ARC a piece of laminate got stuck and I had to take scissors to redo the springs. Believe me, I would if I had another type of disc system to use.

    The standard Arc dics, as supplied as part of Staples discbound notebooks, are about 23mm / 7/8" diameter, which looks quite a bit smaller than the ones in your video. If pages made with the Happy Planner punch were used with those Arc discs, they would almost certainly snag on each other as they were turned - which I suspect is the reason for the shorter slot cut by the Arc punch.

      Hi Heather. I'm sorry but I do not know the answer to your question, however, I do know that when I punch anything using the happy planner punch that I have the best success when I line the center of the paper with the center of the punch. That way I at least know that the center of the paper will be level with the center ring in whatever notebook of binder I am using. I hope that this helps you. If you are going to try this, please do it with a scrap sheet of paper first. Thanks for your question! =)

    I’m a little lost by the comparison. I get that you don’t like seeing the difference and I imagine that if you mixed Happy Planner pages with arc punched pages, they wouldn’t line up properly without trimming the Happy Planner pages. That didn’t seem to be your concern and I just don’t see the difference when you compare the feel. They both fit smoothly and seemed to turn the same. Is it a preference for the holes to look longer?

      Hi! I am so sorry that I am just now seeing your comment (for some reason it was marked as spam, but it is obviously not.) The cover that I used here was from The Happy Planner collection. What you brought up was why I made this video. I wouldn't use the ARC for the pages inside of the planner. I was planning on making covers and dividers, but when I did, I personally did not like the look of how shallow the holes went in on the side. It looked like the cover was going to fly off at the slightest tug. Again, this is just a personal preference. If you enjoy the way that it punches, like the ease and feel of the Arc punch (which I really, really did) then by all means you should keep it. I didn't keep it because at the time of this video I really wasn't in a place where I could afford to keep it if I didn't truly love it. Now I would probably get it and keep it just to fool around with it and she what all I could do with it. It's not a bad hole punch, it's just not good for what I was needing it for at the time.

    Hi I found your review super helpful as I'm about to buy my first punch. I was just wondering did you know if the Happy Planner punch would work with Arc discs? Oh and also WHERE did you purchase your cover in this with the pencil case stuck on as I need it in my life. Thank you so much.

      If you're gonna use Arc discs then get the Arc punch, it's meant for them

      Hi Pamela! Sorry about that. This was the first video I had ever made, so I was pretty nervous. To be honest, I am still quiet nervous when I make a video, but now when I am too quiet, I just cut up the video volume during editing. I hope that any further videos of mine you see are much easier to hear. Thank you for your comment! :)

    Can the happy planner punch be used with the arc notebook?

    • @ChunkyMiniHappyPlanner
      @ChunkyMiniHappyPlanner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I'm sure that it could be, but just know that the hole punched with the happy planner is deeper than the arc punch, so if you are already using arc pages inside of your arc notebook, the pages punched with the happy planner punch will be wider by a little bit. I hope my answer helps you. :)

    The staples arc one is brilliant. Especially if you suffer from weak wrists. The discs are not the same so the punches will be slightly different. And if you cant figure out how to get the punches segments centrally located in whatever size card or paper you use then.....you really should find another hobby girlie.

      Thank for your comment. I do not have any problems lining anything up. This was a comparison video used to show how DEEP the cuts go in on the sides if you are using the Arc punch to make a cover for the Happy Planner. Obviously the discs are different, however people use different punches for different projects. Sorry you couldn't understand that. Have a great day ...."girlie."

    You’re literally being ridiculous. One was made for the thicker arc disks and the other was made for the thinner happy planner disks.. This is just a new level of nitpicking.

      @ChunkyMiniHappyPlanner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for your comment... I guess. Super sorry you feel that way. I was showing the difference between the two and didn't know that was considered to be ridiculous or nitpicky. I'm sorry that my video bothered you so much that you had to take time out of your day to leave such a comment. To be honest, that sounds way more nitpicky than someone making a video showing the differences between two hole punches so that others that watch this video can see which one would work for their personal preference before purchasing, but hey, maybe I'm just being ridiculous again. 🙄🤦‍♀️

      @@ChunkyMiniHappyPlanner Sure Jan, yet you went through making an entire video + editing for what? The size of disks with paper that wasn't meant for it? I suggest you stop being passive aggressive, between the whining and the sarcasm, I'm not sure which makes you more ridiculous. Next time how about using the parts for each brand with each brand and maybe save yourself the 1 hour or so it took you to film and edit nonsense.

That would be way more productive instead of, dare I say, whining in the person's comment section about how their video is all wrong and they should have made it such and such way.
