Any one who disagrees with the song is wrong. There is no emotion like the state tournament. I was born and raised in MN. And havent missed the tournament in 30 yrs. Either on tv, at the excel, or the marrucci (sp) i was a bit young for the civic center but the clear boards are unforgettable. My entire adult working life i have taken vacation for this outstanding of hockey talent. I have watched the tournament in Iraq, and Afghanistan while on tour of duty. This is with out a doubt the best hockey in the nation. And i honestly can't wait for next week.

Yeah, I played in Michigan, we wouldn't quite fit a 20,000 seat stadium like the excel center. But we would fill computer about 10k or bell tire arena about 10/12k. My best friend to this day who I played juniors with went to hill Murray and told all about the culture there. Amazing. Miss that shit so much!
So true, I play in Ontario and our high school hockey is fuck all, only fans are parents and girlfriends, back in the 80's when my uncle went our city championship game had around 400 people now there's nothing and no one cares
For those of you comparing hockey quality. When the NHL is broken down by players from given metro areas, the Twin Cities rank second behind only the larger Toronto metro area in terms of the NHL talent produced. Minnesota in general produces hockey talent at a rate not unlike Canada. What makes Minnesota truly unique within the US is the level of high school play. The state tournament is an institution and a big carrot for players to remain in high school rather than migrate to top junior teams. Yes, some still go, but the overall quality of high school play is still high and is still populated with some of the best 15-18 year old talent. The tournament is an amazing tradition and it isn't getting smaller. It is a can't-miss event that seems to amaze newcomers every year. It is a bucket-list event for hockey fans, even if they have no rooting interest in the teams that are playing. The level of excitement, crowd size, drama, etc. is off the charts and ranks at the top compared to any other high school athletic tournament, regardless of sport.
Only time I've ever thought to myself that there was a situation where hockey was better in the states than here in Canada. I played high school here in Canada and it's nothing like this

Not only do we have a better attended sporting event than Texas, but our state fair is also bigger than Texas'. Btw - the largest crowd ever at an NHL arena happened during the MN state high school tournament.
