Ton of channels doing these learning videos these days. But nobody does it quite as good as this channel imo. The pacing, organising of information, zoomed in shots on game elements often....the list goes on. I have bought and played so many more board games because of this channel. Currently playing stuffed fables with my girlfriend, and so much easier to enjoy when I know a good portion of the rules from the start because of your video :)
Marius Mikkelsen I agree. I watch many playthrough videos but I always watch Rodney first. It makes playing a game and following other playthroughs much easier. One other channel I like is “One Stop Co-Op Shop” he’s very good as well.
Patrick Towey oh yea! Almost forgot about them. I watch her everyday lol. Don’t know how I didn’t mention that. I actually prefer their new show to tabletop.
Just wanted to say I have been having an amazing time with this. 2 months later...and I'm excited to get the additional 4 Clans coming out on the 26th. I very much like this game, and definitely think it should be getting more buzz than it is. Amazing two player card game.
Rodney, just played my first game tonight and wow! Your video definitely helped prepare me with the mechanics, which in general are fairly easy. The text on the cards and the interactions take the game to a whole new level. Better than my greatest expectation and the initiative mechanic is amazing. It adds a lot of good tension to the game.
9 months later, I too was anticipating this game to be a huge hit. I can't find a single other person near me that has it. I'm the only person that has bought it from the local store here in town and am highly dissapointed in that. If your anywhere near joplin mo let me know
Hey Rodney!! First of all just want to say your channel is amazing me and my family love watching your videos. Thank you! Secondly (after the buttering up is done hehe) if you can have a chance could you please do a video for the Arcadia Quest Chaos Dragon expansion?? We have bought the expansion for Arcadia Quest and as much help as the rules are. You and Lukes help with the original Arcadia game was just great. Would appreciate it. Again if you have too much on i completely understand keep doing what your doing! 👍😉
Thank you so much for the kind words Kyle! I avoid pre-announcing games I might cover as my schedule can change and I don’t like to disappoint. I'm really glad our original videos helped your family play!
Question: Let's say you move into a crystal zone and you now control 2 crystal areas. However, the movement puts the initiative token on your opponent's side. Do you still get to score or does your turn end first BEFORE you get to the score step??? Does this make you wait until next turn to score?
Hey J, scoring is an action, so if the action you "just" took, moves your initiative token to the opponents side, than your turn would end before you could take the scoring action. Hope that helps!
15:20 The water clan's Flank ability shows a flame symbol not only in the reference card but also in the unit's text. The Undying ability has no flame symbol in the unit but does have it in the reference card. I mean, the effect is only relevant when the unit is in the discard pile, so I don't see a reason for a flame symbol... Maybe a misprint for the reference card?
During combat, subtracting the number in front of the shield icon from the opponent's attack value doesn't sound very logical. I'd prefer to add that number to the first defending unit's health/shield instead, as it's basically additional defence. Should have the same result, right?
I remember talking to the publisher about this, and there were situations where this order would matter (based on card effects, etc). I don't recall the example they shared with me now, but let's just say that the way the video presents it, is the correct way to do it. If you want to do it differently, of course you're free to :)
Looks interesting but I think I prefer Summoner Wars, and I never really get a change to play it. I've unfortunately reached the point where I have to be a little picky with what games I pick up. not enough time or space to play them all.
When you activate a squad, can you move, reorder and battle all in one? Or do you need to activate and pay the cost for each action you'd like to use? For example, pay 2 iniatuve to move into a spot with an enemy AND THEN pay 2 to battle.
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
Hello. We played the game at home, its very a good one but two questions appeared and we did not find their answers in the rules or this video : 1. If two cards has an effect that said get discarded at the start of a battle with a flame symbol, Can this effect be triggered a second time when the first card is discarded and the second card come at the top of the squad ? 2 Can we invade several times in one turn if we have enough initiative letf ? Thanks for the video and your answer 😁
Hey David, I avoid getting into specific card effects (I cove too many games to be able to manage that level of detail across all of them), but I can say that if you have enough initiative left, yes, you can invade again. For your other question, you may want to reach out to the publisher directly or check the rules forums on BoardGameGeek.
During a battle with a 3 units squad, do you only activate the ability of the top unit of your squad for the whole fight or if you can trigger the ability of the second unit too when the first one dies when attributing the damage ? For example, the top unit has Heal ability and the second unit has wish ability and they both dies during the turn. Do you activate both abilities?
Battlefield abilities (the ones with flames beside them) need to be on top to activate. Abilities like Wish will apply even if that unit was not on top. That doesn't fully answer your question though. Damage is all applied simultaneously, so if there were two battlefield abilities in your squad, only the one on top would be applied to combat.
After invading, do the invading cards go to the discard pile of the owner or are they destroyed. It was not covered in the video nor do I see it in the rule book.
The invading cards stay where they are. This wasn't covered in the rule book or the video because there is nothing that happens to that invading unit after the invade action. Confirmed this with the publisher though, just to be sure :)
Im confused about summoning. Are you able to summon 3 at once but pay alll that initiative? Or is it one at a time. Or can you just choose either to summon one at a time or spam summon all at once?
The summon action lets you choose up to 3 units from your hand and place them all in your home zone, as a single action. You then pay initiative equal to the totaled summon cost of those units. So, you can summon one at a time (as a separate action each time), or up to 3 at once as a single action.
Thanks for this. Can you explain "battle styles" again? I couldn't quite get it. Just respond to this, I guess, if you happen to see it. Appreciate what you do.
Hey there, it's been long enough since I shot this, that I'm not quite sure which part of the video you are referring to. I'm guessing I was referring to how each clan has it's own strengths and way of playing that distinguishes it from the others.
@@WatchItPlayed The little symbols like the horn and the jewel. I didn't quite understand what those were for or how they interacted or if it mattered that both symbols aligned?
@@Plotspider Ah, I got you. Well, I'm not sure what to say exactly. I cover it in the video, which was the best way I knew how to explain it, so if that's not clear, then I'm not sure exactly which part you're unsure about (which makes it hard for me to know how to re-phrase it).
@@WatchItPlayed I guess what I'm trying to figure out, is: do the symbols have to align with the enemy's card or does their battle style merely show what sort of special move they have, regardless of the enemy's card? I guess I didn't understand what the point of the battle-styles was.
@@Plotspider You'll want to watch this section here, which explains it in detail: th-cam.com/video/OvvbIrppapA/w-d-xo.html The symbols are very important, as they dictate which side of the battle card is resolved as you see in the explanation. If you're asking "why" the game was designed that way, that would be a question for the publisher. Either way, hope that helps!
A fantastic game that ended up delayed past it's initial release date because of Fantasy Flight buying out Plaid Hat. IMO that killed any momentum this could have had. I really hope it gets the Reborn treatment, to give it a second chance at the life it deserved.
Yeah, there was definitely some challenges with the roll-out of this one. Keep an eye out for the new release of Summoner Wars, as I believe this artist will be making a return there!
