The best fender stand is. Cut an old tyre in half at the centre of the tread. Fit tyre over top of 44 gallon drum. Choose tyre that fits a little tight on drum. Fender does not slip on rubber and drum is at perfect height. Ron from South Africa
Yes sir I use old 55 gallon drums for work stations. If I am painting a piece using my spray gun the round drum enables me to walk around the piece and spray it without getting my air hose hooked on anything for example. That's a good suggestion regarding a fender stand.🥸👍👍👍👍
@ when I paint wheels I use the bottom off of a swivel rocking chair so I can rotate the wheel as I paint it do I don’t have to circle the wheel until I get dizzy. I’m going to place that spinner on top of a 55 gallon barrel like you suggest . Might even mount a motor to spin it?
kudos to dan you have progressed so far since I've been watching. 65 years body collision tech. have not seen so much advancement in my profession career keep up the good work.. wish you're closer would love to mentor you Your are better than you think.👍.
Love the cutting and welding videos! Nice to see the pieces fabbed and replaced. Yes you can time lapse the flying sparks and laborious time consuming stuff :)
Great to see your work and you metal work is amazing and you should be proud of your work. anyone can hang new parts, but to make your own makes you proud when finished
Some people are content with buying replacement parts for the popular makes as they are not inclined to get that involved in the fabrication aspect of this "hobby" and they may have the economic means to afford the more expensive newer panels. However they serve as an economic driver to instill in others to manufacture these pieces, which benefits all who participate in this "hobby". Albeit these pieces are expensive (and they like other items are constantly going up in price) they can be a blessing in just being available. But there is no bounds to the types of vehicles that people are restoring, and hot rodding and the fabrication skills will always be needed. Like any craft it takes time to develop the skills and also procure the tools and equipment to do this work Also this is a huge driver in the availability in tools and equipment that people buy who are involved in doing this work. It is actually a huge economic section of our economy.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍
One never learns if one never fails . So just do it and learn from our mistakes . Getting over the mental hurdle of I can’t do it is the key. Keep up the great work and keep having fun building hot rods
A rock and roll hit named SATISFACTION is the theme song for your video... You killed it, had fun, and taught the watchers they can make a mess and succeed! Keep welding
A 1 inch or 1.5 inch conduit 90 degree bend cut in half will do both fender brows nicely. It will take a bit of sectioning but it is the cheapest fix out there for fender brows.
Really enjoyed this video! Reminded me of the videos I watched several years ago that made me subscribe to your channel. This is the first video of yours I've watched start to finish in a while!
Man so happy to see just you ,yer mind, yer hands and half yer tools . Last night I watched you putting the floor pan in the 56 2 dr post , where ya said ya didn’t know what you were doin , but we would do it together . Made me remmember why I’m here
I quit drinking years ago so I have the same problem for templates. A good alternative I have found is store bought frozen pizza boxes. It is expensive template material but it comes with a free pizza.
Dr. Pepper 12-pack cases make fine template material. Impressive skills on display. Not many can patch stuff without a bunch of fancy equipment. Supposedly some Brits can jack up a hood ornament and build a classic car under it in a garden shed. You are showing us the way!
Dan don't worrie about what people say it's better then it was and it's not going to rot out in you life time and your getting another old hot rod back on the road. Good job
last couple video's I have noticed you doing quite a bit better on sheet metal work than in the past... Hope you keep that up in the future and not get in a rush to get things done..... Looking awesome great work Dan!
Your fabrication skills have really Improved over the years Dan! Those front fenders, and rear ones were really rough! You did a nice job bro! Have you decided on the drive train yet? Hope it's a BIG BLOCK! PEACE ✌️
Dan if you can find any of the fenders from 55-58 3 or 5 ton farm trucks you can cut brows n buckets outa them too. They didn’t get as packed up with road crud
This project hit at the perfect time for me. I have a 56' GMC that will need some of the same work. Now I see I can take care of the metal work myself, just have to buy a few tools and who hates that. Can't wait till you get into the driveline. Thanks Dan for simplifying the metal work, you probably just saved me a couple thousand dollars.
AAHHHH SO Good and refreshing to have a good old episode like the old days without the annoying nasal sound and needless constant giggling and laughing unnecessarily Of the annoying camera woman. So much better this was. Actually watched a whole vid. Cheers Bro.
Gotta' say we missed Dani's camera work in this one. Sasquatch got in the way more than we usually have to suffer through. 😄 Great net result in the work, though, Dan!
Do the rear fender the same way , bend the lower fender face and weld on the 90 deg lip. Maybe watch for another SBC and trans like the 305 you found for the 55. Ezzy peezy , you'll be tired after ALL the body work and just want to drive it. What's the plan for a bed floor , 3/4 plywood , 3/16 steel ? The original bed kits can run major $$ . Good job on the time lapse!!
Amazing work as always Dan. Hopefully the new shop mechanic ain't lazy and will actually SHOW UP! Man, fresh in and ALREADY takin time off!! Not good. Not a good start.
Most anything you do the first time there's always a bit of a learning curve. The important thing is you got to play a little bit more with some new tools and learn a little bit more. Even an expert had to start somewhere. Thanks for the video.

That is great idea.
Thanks I was fixing to make something for my hood I'll try this
Get real that's too much work. This is about building cars not fender stands

Fun watching you build old iron with what you have and can find on the cheap. So much like my builds, I like to watch and get new ideas from.
I continue to watch in amazement as Dan cuts and bends a random piece of flat metal into a part that fixes a fender with lots of curves.
@@GeorgeKauffman-w6g thanks man!

Having smarts and imagination can overcome lack of proper tooling everytime to get the job done. Great job.
I made those 2 exact pieces you are making, not too tough. If I can do it you can do it no problem.
You commented that your inner Merv was coming out. I think it's that you are becoming more comfortable with metal work and it shows.
Your metal workmanship never ceases to amaze me awesome job in my opinion
Dan, you are doing a fine job. Love that ole 56 Chevy truck. Can’t wait to see her back together.
