    You had a lot better luck with yours than I did with mine. Out of 22 "available" channels, I was able to get none. Spent about 5 hours moving all around and today ... I'm returning it.

      Well if you used an antenna like he did then don’t expect to get many channels unless your like 30-45 miles out of an antenna station like cbs or nbc, because those antennas don’t have uhf or vhf elements basically what you need for great signals toward channels, I would suggest a outdoor metal antenna

    I bought a 20 dollar one from amazon that has a 135 mile range. I just put it on a window inside our home and all my tv's got 51 channels. That includes abc, cbs, nbc, and fox. We are really impressed with it.

    In the 50s, 60s,70s, all we had was a metal antenna mounted on top of our house. We had to climb a peach tree to get on the rooftop and turn the antenna by hand until the 70s...then we had an automatic changer that sat on top of the tv..We could only get one channel at a time...we just watched the one until one of us kids climbed the tree..

    We had a $70 1byone hard plastic (white) antenna on a telescoping pole for our RV. In front of our house it picked up twice as many channels as the RV manufacturer supplied $200 "bat-wing" antenna that came mounted on the roof. We were once camped at a campground on the outskirts of Indianapolis and we bought a $25 cheapo antenna at WalMart and actually picked up over 100 OTA channels with great reception. I've come to the conclusion that it's all about location, location, location :-)

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What maker was that cheapo one? 100 in Indy is crazy. Although most are probably in a foreign language or a shopping channel, im guessing.

    • @TravelswithYoly
      @TravelswithYoly 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the midwest you don't get as many foreign language channels apparently. Most of them were actual, viewable channels. I can't remember the brand name of the antenna. All I remember is that it was the cheapest one (and also an experiment) and it really surprised us. It was black plastic, about 18 inches long and maybe 2.5 inches tall. It had a "power booster" that I connected and I just set it on the roof of the small RV and ran the coax through the window. I used to have an app that would tell you (based on your location) what direction and how far away specific towers were for specific channels. They all don't come from one direction (usually) and many were just too far away. You can see the 1byone that we had in the walk-thru video of the Range Runner video on our channel ..... th-cam.com/video/QXlexz5ehTQ/w-d-xo.html

    I live in Tampa Florida. I bought the same type of antenna only mine is a 50 mile range.
    It works great, I get 52 channels in total.
    In the beginning I had a move the antenna around because I wasn’t getting ABC, Univision and CBS.
    I Put in the antenna up high but that didn’t work. Finally I put it halfway near A light switch and now I get all the channels that I wanted including the missing channels.
    One of the tech people at my job told me to buy a 50 or 60 mile range indoor antenna to get the best results. He was right.

    most of the antennae's of that nature don't work good without a signal booster, clear tv etc... but so far the best indoor antennaes are the ones with rabbit ears, UHF loop and dial to fine tune it and would suggest adding a booster to them but they work better with more clarity than those flat ones, I have a Radio Shack HDTV/FM HD antennae with a signal booster and it works better than the Clear TV & RCA flat antennae's I have, it pulls in more stations a lot clearer than those as far as indoor antennae's also would not recommend getting the stick like ones you plug in back

  • @Linescrew1Canada
    @Linescrew1Canada 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is what all the RV people use! I use a Winegart indoor antenna myself (the boosted one). Its one of the best in its class. Just face it in the direction of the transmitters as high as you can. I remember watching a live police car chase from KCAL when I was in your area!!

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Next I’m gonna try a rca outdoor ant. I saw they have a portable tripod for it, I assume for campers. Maybe you should do an RV TV antenna review on your channel?
      I feel like live car chase is a regular show on kcal!

    • @Linescrew1Canada
      @Linescrew1Canada 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I have discussed the antenna many times in the past. That over the air signal is clearer than satellite when installed and positioned right. Since I am near the border, I get signals from both Canada and the USA: best of both worlds!

    most any antenna mounted on a roof will work better especially clear of nearby obstructions, the higher the better. You don't need 1 that is HD or Digital as those factors don't affect propogation only line of sight, some weather conditions, other interference etc. Check to see if the antenna has elements for VHF channels as those are still used in some areas.

    there are a lot of factors for antenna quality. TV signals are sight of line. (meaning, nothing can be between you and the signal. And beyond 50-70miles, they don't work because of the curvature of the earth.
    flat panel, (omni-directional) are weak at best.
    In your next review, please indicate if you live in a flat or mountainous area where you are sitting in a valley.
    Please mention how far you are from the station or broadcast repeater station. Thanks

    I used to work on TV tuner/demod technology as an engineer - most of what the industry tell user to do is a bit silly. The best approach is to use the website to find the location of the main TV transmitter tower in your area and the channels that tower carry. Instead of "scan", manually add the channel's RF channel of the top channels you are interested in. For 80% of the Americans, that's ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.... or Unvision, Telemundo, Unimas, Azteca for Spanish speaking viewers. Then you tune into those key channels, with that channel's signal strength readout on the screen, then move around the antenna until you get 1) really good picture quality and/or highest signal strength reading, and 2) a good location that you can permanently affix your antenna and not some hideous location that's either unsafe or that your wife would kill you for. It's only at that point, you affix the antenna location and do the full "scan" or "re-scan". With most metropolitan market having just 1 or 2 main towers, your priority is to find a placement of antenna that can receive the strongest signal from that tower(s). Once that's located, the "scan" function will pick up all other channels from are transmitted from that tower...even ones you really dont care for. I once help up a friend setup an indoor antenna, in the basement, using these steps and he was amazed that no one was able to do that. The standard procedure the industry suggest is silly because you have two moving targets: 1) not sure where to install antenna; 2) don't even know what you can pick up or what's broadcasting. My approach is fix item 2), and then optimize item 1).

    Great knife and a great viddie. Ice seen some yt vids where a guy used a metal clothes hanger wrapped in alum foil. Also I feel you cause I use a flat rabbit ears tv free way antenna and I scaned and got nothing but Spanish channels religious channels and audio church channels after I see I can get a lot of 'free channels' like I see on tv infomercials if I pay 50 antenna. Yeah right.....

    Boosters only boost signals you already get. I know it appears as if he got more channels, but they were already in the antennas range, which is quite low range. If you live outside of town or city, this antenna will probably not pick up any channels at all.

    What would have been nice is with the dtv.gov it also tells you how far the signal is away from your address and how strong the signal was. The package says it'll go 50 miles, but we are left clueless to how far it really went. Does it really goes 50 miles or are you very close to these stations broadcasting towers and it isn't any better than a set of rabbit ears?

    I think some TVs are able to pick up signals that others can’t. My small flat screen bedroom tv picked up more channels than my living room big flat screen when I tested it in the living room using the same antenna amplifier by COBY. About 10 channels more. They’re both different brands. Why is that?

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true. Its the quality of the built in tuner. Different tvs may pick up different channels based on how good their internal tuner is.

    get same results at 2 different locations so it's hard to judge the results of the receptions by a review in any specific location

    Try a Channel Master outdoor roof antenna if you really want to bring in broadcast TV from a distance. And to further improve reception consider an antenna rotator with remote control. This way you can fine-tune your reception. You get what you pay for, the better the antenna, the better the reception. I recommend the Channel Master MetroTenna or EXTREMEtenna. Of course, if you are very far from the source you may need a booster. Do not be fooled by these ridiculous ads offering amazing free TV in 1080P with an indoor antenna - ripoff alert. They don't broadcast OTA TV in 1080P it's either 1080i or 720P.

    Dear Mr switchblade, It would help if you showed what port you plugged the antenna into. If you already have cable coax in use, can you use the USB input?

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can’t use a USB to get the transmission. Antennas only supply their signal through 300ohm (2 wires) or 75ohm (coax). If the “ANT” connector on the back of your TV is already in use by Cable then you’ll need a 75ohm AB switch.

    I used to get CBS with the antenna being in the house now I don't and so I have to put the antenna outside and it works sometimes. I don't want to rescan the channels because I do get Ktla, Fox, NBC, Oxygen, and Court TV while the antenna is in the house next to the TV I'm thinking if I rescan I take the chance of losing those channels. Its a struggle but can't afford cable so that's where I'm at right now. The booster doesn't work for me.

  • @cspringer333

    Hmmmmm.....you needed to add the amplifier before doing any testing and also, you shouldn't have blocked it behind a television. I don't have this model but I have installed several running the coaxial through the wall into the attic. I didn't have to do that but it hid the antenna. Got over 50 channels. Without the amplifier they got 11 channels.

    • @CrybKeeper
      @CrybKeeper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Boosters only boost signals you already get. I know it appears as if he got more channels, but they were already in the antennas range, which is quite low range. 50 miles is false. That antenna probably goes out 25 miles at best. If you live outside of town or city, this antenna will probably not pick up any channels at all. Flat ground is not making a difference. The antennas design is most important. You need an old analog roof antenna, one with 100 mile range and you will also need to have a few major cities within that 100 mile radius.

    I set up a long range swiveling wifi antenna on the roof of my house that works pretty well. Wifi is not as fast as my cox cable hook up but it works. I mention this because a similar setup with an antenna such as this might really allow me to ditch my cable provider all together. My question is, will the antenna itself survive in the long term against the beating it will get from the elements outside? Will covering this antenna so as to avoid the sun's rays, hinder the reception in any way? I'm hoping that since it's basically designed to be covered by the walls of our homes and still get reception, provided there are tv stations in the area to pick up, making a light weather resistant cover for this antenna and placing it out doors should optimized it's overall function. Does this seem logical?

      @@holymoly7644 That's kind of difficult to do that when you live in a first-floor apartment. The problem with all this "buy newer TVs, buy bigger antennas, etc." stuff is that you might as well just get a basic cable or satellite package. OTA television used to be the cheap & easy solution. All I had to do 99% of the time was to extend the built-in antenna and turn on the TV. I'd at least get 2-3 channels at a snowy but watchable quality regardless of the circumstances. Now, all I get is digital vomit about 80% of the time and maybe a few seconds of watchable video every 5-10 minutes. That's ridiculous and totally unacceptable after spending hundreds of $$$ for the TV and another $100+ for the antenna.
