You can get that same darkening effect by 'drybrushing' the black onto the piece. You fill up the brush with the paint, then rub it into a paper towel to remove most of the excess paint. You then brush the paint on, without having to wipe off. It gives you a little more control on the amount of paint and the effect than having to rub the excess paint off the piece directly. Love the walkthrough of the mods on the respirator!
great micro build, very entertaining as always. btw good to see your hand is doing ok after what happend, if i recall there was a similar situation in one of your previws build that a grinddisk also broke off and hit you on the same hand but at that time you had your gloves on. looking forward for your next projects.

Platinum as well, microbiologists used to make tools out of the stuff before we got into making useless plastic shit that gets thrown out and replaced every time you use one.
I remember reading that about brass too. They did tests in hospitals about how long viruses last on different metal surfaces and turns out stainless isn't so great, but brass has a natural microbial property.
Years ago now, I found the video you did, the thing around my neck, and since then have been thinking about picking one up. I love what you did, and what your doing with the charity, it's super awesome. Thank you also for making videos, cause it gives me hours of good stuff to watch, and even small silly things that you don't record, would be awesome to see.
Goop is actually really good at gluing shoes back together. They even have a shoe specific version that works even better. Super glue was initially devised as a liquid plastic for making gun sight lenses, but didn't have the required clarity. During testing, the inventor noticed he had glued his testing optics together. It was even used as a wound closing compound in the US military. I still use it this way.
I do construction and I have a beard that consists of two dreadlocks that go to my belt line...... I feel as though you invented this for me..... Thank you good sir
For filling in the gaps you can mix some baking powder with the super glue, it hardens like a rock and heats up the plastic to make it like a plastic weld.
Silver is antimicrobial, idk about brass. Maybe. Edit: Just googled it. Yes in fact, the surfaces of copper and it's products are antimicrobial. I wonder if they do the same thing silver does.
thanks to you i got one of these resp-o-rators due to being a painter and the usual ones not working with my beard... best damn respirator that i have ever used and its all thanks you go my Irish buddy
Instead of the leather strap in the back would it be better to cut the bar in half and glue rare earth magnets to each side of the cut? That way you never have to undo the front, just pull the two back sections apart enough so it will fit over your head.
i just ended up cutting the plastic in half and putting a hole in one side and a hook in the other works well that way i bet a leather strap with a snap in the middle would work as well

Metal in general acts as a natural disinfectant, that's why you may see things a lot of people touch in public made out of metal., it's called the Oligodynamic effect.
Brass is copper and zinc(in a ratio of about 2:1), sometimes with traces of other metals. Bronze is copper and tin or sometimes copper and other metals.

I have one of these and decided to try the catch bottle on it. I ended up going without it because I found it lays Flatter againsty chest when it's just hanging around my neck of the bottle isn't used. Also I don't use a nose clip at all. Don't need it. Im grateful to Michael Cthulu for using one ande deciding to try it. I love it. It works and it's so easy to just wear it around the shop. I probably use it even when I don't really need to but that's better than taking a chance of inhaling crap into my lungs.
Right? Is it because hes showing how to make weapons? Like somebodys gonna go "oh ok, now i just need 5k in tools and 20 years experience so i can make a soulcaliber sword and go on a murder rampage"
Protects him from inhaling anything he's working on but unlike normal masks it also draws air from behind you rather than having to filter what's in front of you. Also he prefers this mask specifically because beards make it hard to get a full seal with normal masks, whereas this guy goes right in your mouth. The bottle in the front is just to collect spit that culminates because it goes in your mouth rather than around it.
Great video, Michael. For future reference though, Goop outgasses toluene fumes throughout its life, so probably not the best choice for any future breathing equipment (though it is below the outflow, so possibly fine)
That bottle on your respirator is more for collecting condensation forming in the tubes than spit, and all that condensation will encourage mold formation so I hope you change the hole thing regularly, yukky!

Next time you paint coper, to give it that extra kick, copper tend to get a blue-ish green color. You can find that color in acrylic really easy and it add that lil'kick you're talking about. Though i would recommend to use less acrylic. Drybrush it once, let it dry, pick a few spots you like and lavish a bit over it (really put big dose at the sport then take it off until you achieve a "coffee splat" effect on the selected area). let it dry and voila, rusty copper style.

Copper is a natural antimicrobial. IF the brass has that property (I'm not sure) then it would get it from the copper. It's why copper sinks are so in demand.
Yes, brass, and any alloy with a decent percentage of copper for that matter, has that property. It just takes a bit longer than pure copper.
can confirm brass is antimicrobial, it explains why so many door handles are brass, however you only get the anti-microbial benefits if you clean the surfaces, otherwise oils left by our hands create a barrier between the metal and bacteria
Exactly, however you only need to clean the surface with anything hygrophilic, so even a paper towel with a drop of soap would do it.
