Honestly every since Bionic, it really feels like Christina haven’t been the same. It’s almost like she lost something and it breaks my heart. I’m a major fan of hers and wished there was much more promo for her last album. I really enjoyed it and felt like she had a nice recharge. We’ll see once the pandemic is over what she’ll have going on

Honestly, I think ain’t no other fan hit it right on the head when he said it seems she became a slave to her style. She’s suffered from it and continues to suffer from it but she still wont change and it’s affected her career. Another big thing is it seems she’s lost confidence. Many people agreed that when we heard Bionic and Liberation, it sounded like she lost confidence halfway through. And that lack of confidence is noticeable in more than just her music.

    • @khanhdoattitude
      @khanhdoattitude 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

@@jeromewilson1048 She's far from a slave to her style. She plays around with more styles most artists. She's just not committed to promoting her music appropriately. Bionic is a dance electronic record and she chose Not Myself Tonight + You Lost Me to be singles, crazy! Liberation should have been a full Hiphop / RnB record. Like I Do is a bop and totally deserving of the Grammy nomination. B2B and prior she always played a character to fully embrace a moment / era in her music but after that she dropped this commitment. Musically, she's still playful and experimental but this doesn't translate to her image or promotion.

@@khanhdoattitude When i say she’s a slave to her style, I mean she wont get proper training, and thus she limits herself. And from what i hear, Bionic was mostly all ballads, they came in later and added songs like not myself tonight (which i hate). So the album didn’t have a sense of continuity. Also, just my opinion, is was far too sexual and i think the real beauty of the album got lost in that. To really have a great album and a great era you need to fully embrace a theme and aesthetic. She doesn’t seem to do that anymore because she seems to lack full confidence in it, giving us songs she thinks are more mainstream and what she thinks people will want to hear, rather than really tell a story from her heart.

    • @jgg5812
      @jgg5812 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Yeah, she kinda lost her passion for music after the bionic fiasco and all she went through in 2010/2011. Lotus should have been her comeback album but she let it flop with the lack of promotion, feuds with other artists and terrible looks. I think she boycotted herself on purpose and said fuck you to her label and the music industry

  • @clayhammond9768
    @clayhammond9768 3 ปีที่แล้ว +378

You nailed it when you said Xtina is a prisoner of her own vocals. She leans heavily into a dark, covered sound that she augments with run after run, and it's become almost artificial and certainly unnecessary. She's like a caricature of herself, and I think she's forgotten what her real voice is like. The last time I thought she was in her element was Burlesque, and I loved everything she did there. She needs better music to sing, and she needs someone to give her permission to tone it down and find her real voice again. In the meantime, ima sing some Back to Basics and go back to waiting.

Agreed. The main argument seems to stem from the idea she, as a successful artist, NEEDS to provide her fans with more content. That is not the case. She deserves praise for her work whenever she puts it out (and whenever it is praiseworthy) -- she should not be tied to our expectations.

@@jeromewilson1048 Unlike many artists who promise something "real", "raw", and "liberating" -- her album actually contained music that was like that. I don't fault an artist for taking her time -- especially at that level of commercial success where there are hundreds of other people standing in the way of the album's release (producers, publicists, her "team", etc). Albums are CONSTANTLY pushed back through no fault of the artists recording them, and there are also times when you create something just to find it doesn't work, and you need to go back to the drawing board.

@@IDontWantThisStupidHandle Yeah sometimes things happen and projects dont come to light but Xtina doesn’t quite have that excuse. She’s been in this industry for minute, she knows the deal. I belive she has a home studio, many connections, and she is a very rich bitch. If she really want to put out a project she can fund it herself. If she wanted to do something to invigorate her fan base, she would be dropping covers or getting out there performing. Thats how I can tell the ones that really want it from the ones that don’t. Alright, label is fucking around, let me get on TH-cam and do a cover. I’ll get in IG live and engage with fans. Ill have my social media person set up only fans or something and post there. The ones who are hungry for it will create art by any means. I’m happy for you that you seemed to love liberation, for me, it was alright. Lyrically it bit sophomoric, and emotionally she seems to keep it kinda vague, never going into too much depth. For someone of her age and level of talent and where she should be in her life, I expected more. And if you cant guarantee its coming soon, don’t say its coming soon.

Totally agree, i also feel Xtina cannot get over the stripped era ( her best era ) and she is always trying to recreate it with all of her albums now, first single is always a sexual song; NMT/YB/Accelerate, then there is always a ballad on her albums that she is always comparing comparing to beautiful; Hurt/You lost me/Blank Page, and her interviews are always so repetitive, she always talk about female empowerment, the domestic violence she experienced as a child, how she always tries to find the beauty within imperfections and starts talking about stripped, fighter and beautiful, how she takes times between records to live her life and then she names britney/MMC. Those are the only topics she ever discusses in all her interviews, she never talks about anything new, to a point that i was a huge fan at one point but then i stopped watching her interviews cause they were all the same,i recently watched her interview with andy cohen and nothing has changed

I've been a Christina fan since Genie and went into "stan mode" from about 2008-2013ish, but I've been around for each album era (expect Liberation). It was a combination of things that made me stop following her career closely, I still love her music but being a hardcore fan of an artist is exhausting. The most frustrating things sometimes is other fans, because they have these great expectations of what the artist should do and that influences other fans, and then gradually everyone begins expecting things that were not promised in the first place. In Christina's case, it is always the issue of "the next album" which is YEARS of fans hyping up the next record, speculating a release month/year/date, only to be wrong time and time again, followed with lots of complaining. Then when the album finally does come out, it either underwhelms, underperforms or is not "promoted enough" or whatever. I find it best just to be a casual fan of Christina, I enjoy her much more when I'm not focused on her every move career-wise.

There will come a time on our age that we don’t care about attention, fame or even normal people like me just want to stay at home and don’t go out with friends. The most important thing is she is happy, got a peace of mind, and living the life she wanted for her family. She had her time and she truly knows that. I am not disappointed at Xtina I miss her doing music but if she wants her life to be this way and she’s happy then I am happy for her/

She has alienated her fans a lot. She is still one of the best singers out there, she is not 18 anymore but today's 18 year Olds can't sing like she did so... I still support her and I know there is more there than what she has been releasing lately, maybe she is a bit lost and needs to reconnect with her roots instead of looking for a successful single. She tried on her last album but it was lacking still specially when we know what she is capable of. In my opinion Stripped and Back to basics are 2 of the best albums released in the 00s with Confessions of a Dance floor by Madonna, The Emancipation of Mimi by Mariah Carey. Legendary albums for legendary women

Also I think that long ass billionaire tour she did from 2013-2017 is a good example of how much she does not care. She would rather do easy one off gigs that pay millions than give back to her fans. It's a literal pandemic and she is STILL finding a way to do the Billionaire Tour. Surely she can't be THAT busy that over the last year she couldn't livestream for an hour singing a couple songs.

The artist doesn't owe anything to people. She releases new music - you pay money and get it. She's touring - you pay for ticket then go and see her singing live. That's the deal. She doesn't owe anyone anything else. It's not like we payed her money and then didn't get our CDs or like we bought tickets but she cancelled her show (although that happens sometimes). If she's releasing new music, then she's doing everyone favour. If she's not, then she's living her life which she has every right for. Or maybe someone should become her conservator making her work hard? Do not we try to get another huge artist from conservatorship?

It sounds like Christina is insecure and tries to be private like Beyoncé is. The problem is she doesn’t have that audience to go back to like Beyoncé does after taking breaks and it might be she takes the audience that she has for granted unlike someone like Mariah (I’m not trying to be negative here). I think this insecurity is shown in her constant changes of appearance and lack of touring.
The fact she did start touring again and gave every song her all shows that she does want to engage with her fans, and at least she’s still singing the vast majority of her songs 100% live, unlike a lot of other artists...

Bad or no dancing, walking up and down the stage while out of breath and having the background singers sing most of your choruses and also during Vegas she even had CD vocals playing in the background sometimes... it was dissapoinging. She does not need to release any more albums (although if she did, we would all be happy). She's part of the 90s divas (Whitney, Mariah,...) and she's had such an incredible career. Christina, on the other hand, still has so much to give in my opinion. The fact that she only released 3 albums (and a christmas album) during the prime years of her career is quite disappointing. She waited too long between Back to Basics and Bionic, which greatly contributed to her losing impact in the music industry. Take her peers, Britney or Beyonce, for example, they consistently released great bodies of work during their best years, accumulating fans from different generations not just those who have followed them from the beginning.

The lack of new content, presence on social media, live performances... Is something that I, as a huge Britney & Avril fan, truly understand how frustrating can be. As fans, we hate to see our idols' work fly under the radar, to feel like they have gone underappreciated by the mainstream public, despite being extremely talented.
I hope she makes a huge comeback and that in the next era she feels more excited about promoting the singles & album (with, of course, the help of her label and management because let's be honest, we are fools to think that ALL of that depends on the artist ONLY).

  • @MP_Guz
    @MP_Guz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

the problem is not Xtina's music and especially not her voice. It's how her eras were handled.
after 3 big eras she released Bionic in 2010, honestly I'm surprised she doesn't hate the record considering her label forced her to change its concept and it was received so badly her fandom was abandoning her and her label only focused on promoting the lead single. i don't think it's a bad album (Xtina is not capable of making a bad album -unless we count just be free- ), but considering how badly it was handled I'm not surprised it did this bad in terms of success and reception.
after the horrendous Bionic era, the divorce and the tragic 2011 I believe her following album, Lotus, was basically the tool she used to blow off her steam, this is why the record has many different emotions and sounds: several happy song, sad ones, deep ones, songs where she makes fun of haters, songs about how she wants to sing like she prefers etc. I believe this was her perfect album for a comeback especially given the radio friendly sound it had, but it was a hard time for her she wasn't fully focused on delivering her usual live vocals or push the era like she used to and the fact the label barely pushed the project until they abandoned it so early didn't motivate her either.
Liberation era... i don't even know, she seemed lost and that's probably why she had that huge gap before releasing. Honestly it's like she lost her usual motivation to deliver the energy and passion she used to deliver during her first eras because everyone abandoned her.

Liberation is a decent album, but in contrast to the long wait and so many empty promises along the way, I can say that after being a fan since Stripped this was the first time I was ever disappointed with music from her, the album is very short, has many collaborations in which she sounds like the featured artist. I don’t know, it just was a huge let down to me. I feel like after all these years she should have come back ready and with some of her best work. I also saw her live on the X Tour, her vocals were fantastic but the show was short, she barely sang full songs, it just felt messy and incomplete especially because I’ve seen the Back to Basics tour twice. I just don’t think she is as passionate about music as she was in the 00’s, I agree with you that there’s much more potential for her when it comes to success today but I’ve also accepted and learned to take everything she says with a grain of salt, I’ll be happy and supportive when she drops music, but I’m not gonna expect too much anymore, especially when it comes to promotion or longevity.

I think a lot of this type of conversation (with any artist) just comes down to expectations people have from their idols. The ideas of how one spends their time, what they create, what is an acceptable way to interact with their audience, how they promote their music or where they tour, how often, etc. comes from industry standards and comparisons with other artists who are different people with different teams. I personally appreciate the way Christina conducts herself with her work as I personally do feel that I can see and respect the truth she carries in doing what she wants and delivering when the moment comes. A lot of what she expresses and what I feel from her really mirror my own life and the way I see things - example, living my authentic truth, taking time away from everything and everybody to be with me, letting go of expectations from others on how to live my life, slowly cultivating projects for whatever time is right for them to see the light of day, etc - I just really can connect and resonate with messages that come from her, both directly, musically, and from my own speculations. It’s much less of ‘what do I want as a fan?’ and more ‘does this resonate with me right now?’ if that makes sense. And if it doesn’t resonate, that is a personal feeling based on how you connect with something. But ten years ago, I would probably hold the same sentiment as I did want to see my favourite artists doing new things all the time because I was so enamoured with them. So I understand the perspective of evaluating ones actions through the lens of a fan wanting more. But since you asked for thoughts - I appreciate her as an individual doing what she wants and sharing pieces of her truth along the way in whatever way makes sense for her as it should always be up to her and nobody else to decide what that looks like. ❤️

I remember that back in 2006, Christina was the bomb.
She topped the charts worldwide at that time and her album Back to basics was hot property.
But after that she took a hiatus and started a family, a greatest hits album was released in 2008 but fans had to wait until 2010 for her to release new material.
In the meantime artists like Katy Perry and Lady GaGa stepped up and became the new teen idols and by the time Christina released Bionic, she already cooled down and became old news.
That's how ruthless the industry is, if you no longer want to be the top performer, you''ll get replaced just as easy and that's what happened to Christina IMO; after she gave birth she no longer fitted the image that the record labels gave her and she got replaced by younger models.

I understand your point and everything you said. BUT, I also understand Christina. Her life was always FULL of things to do, specially from 2000 to 2006, God knows what they go through when they’re touring and all that. So taking that break from 2006 to 2010 was completely understandable for me, specially Christina who lived a troubled childhood and worked a lot since she was a little girl! Then she released bionic, that legendary album and was received with bunch of bullshit! Two years laters lotus… and I don’t even need to say something about it, right? So yeah… the break from 2012 to 2018, I understand it too! And about the interaction during quarantine, I wanted that too, god knows how much I wanted that! But you guys have to remember, Christina comes from a time where there was no social media, she’s not into it and the little she tries to be online she does it for us fans, because it is clear that she doesn’t feel comfortable with it, she said it already! Plus she was working during this time and gave us some great performances!!! And I’m really excited for what’s next!

This is a really good assessment. Stripped was a very important album to me as a teenager and young adult (still important to me). I've watched her as an artist pretty much from the beginning and it would be nice to have more content. However, knowing her family history and how hard it was for her growing up, it makes a lot of sense that she would value her family time so dearly. We need to separate the "artist" from the "person" and respect that she is concentrating on herself and her mental health. We all need to remember that she received a lot of the same harassment as Britney did in the 2000's and was the punching bag for many a gossip site and tabloid. She, very wisely, approaches social media with caution knowing how if unchecked it can turn into something dark. Also, as a "vocalist" she is taking care of her instrument. Years and years of touring, singing difficult songs night after night takes a physical toll. She knows that she can either pace herself as needed, or push herself too far and then be forced to sit out. She's decided that it is better to take care of her voice and share quality vocals when she can, than try to push and push. The overall theme seems to be sustainability. Knowing when to go and when to stop. It might not be the best "business" decision but she already has as much as she needs. Some things are more important than "success" (which she has already proven 100 times over).

@@theresacottone I was a huge fan in her Stripped, Back to Basics and even Bionic era, but after that I can say it is disappointing what music she put out. Some nice songs here and there, but as a body of work it was a total let down.
What affected her most ( in my opinion) was her divorce form Jordan, which happened after Bionic. After that her downhill started. Christina never got the same after her divorce. While she was with Jordan she was a totally different person, and after she met this Matt guy she literally changed in a big and not so great way. While she was with Jordan she had great albums out, she looked really beautiful and in shape, took care of herself, toured the world successfully, she had her own image and style, was covering magazines worldwide, doing campaigns with Versace, Stephen Webster, etc.
After this Matt guy everything went downhill. Say what you want, but with her huge talent it is pretty odd that in 10 years she never got back even half of the success and relevance she used to have. It seems that some people encouraged her to stay home and bake cookies instead of killin’ it in her career...
Jordan really had a great impact on her creatively, and it is plain and clear to see looking at the facts and the difference between the during and after their relationship...
Also her management is pretty pathetic. She had almost zero promotion. The fans she has are from her old days and are still waiting and hoping for some body of work that will do her level of talent justice. Otherwise we are fans for her 2-3 good albums that were decades ago out. She stayed too long low-key and not delivering anything great and people lose interest.

@@mgdkns6678 The quality of her work isn’t the same. That is 100% true. I see Bionic kind of like a dividing line in that. There are a lot of songs on that album I like and a lot I wasn’t loving. But I stuck with it. Lotus wasn’t the great comeback I hoped for and I haven’t really followed the more recent work in the same way.
I think the divorce did have a big impact on her and it’s possible that Matt (who I don’t know anything about) isn’t inspiring her as much creatively. I think realistically it’s probably a combination of factors. The kids and partner choice could be a big part. But after an album or two that didn’t hit the top numbers she might not have the same access to top producers. The current hit makers might be saving their best work for the “new it girl” (Ex. Ariana Grande etc.)
Then there’s also just burnout. She might not have as many fresh ideas. Which is a standard that female pop stars are held to way more than their male counterparts. No one complains if Maroon 5 is churning out the same song again and again (even if it’s catchy). Constant reinvention is exhausting.
Only she knows. And as long as she’s happy and healthy we can be disappointed but I’m also happy to just cherish the work that I did get. I think we are all just fans who want to support our favorite artists.

I don’t see Christina ever being a pop sensation again... she is 40 and pop is a game for the very young. I think. There is Madonna, but she is in a league of her own.
But given the fact that she has a phenomenal voice I think she could deliver great music, without following the route of pop fun stuff. Her audience outgrew that too, in my opinion. I could see her simply performing, maybe something like Adele or Lana del Rey. Not focused on crazy stuff or dancing too much, but on her voice and talent. I think part of the problem is that she still clings on to a younger identity and pathos. She still appears as a sexy and naughty woman in her videos, but I doubt her audience views her as such. I surely don’t see her as the same Christina from
her wilder days. She is not believable as such anymore. To me at least.
Something is off and she seems all over the place. Like people can’t really understand where she comes from anymore and what she “sells”. It’s just that her whole persona is not really well thought out and not really well translated into a product anymore. Dunno.
JLo has way less talent and she is at the top of her game. She also stayed very congruent over the years so people don’t feel confused and know exactly what they will get. She has her place and is very stable in it. The fact that she kept super fit , as Madonna did too, weights hard on why she is still very lucrative and successful even at her age.
Christina needs a clearer vision and a better team that can execute that vision and actually promote it after(!!!!).

As a fan, I appreciate everytime she does what makes her the ducking Christina Aguilera her unique more iconic runs and singing skills is what makes her and yeah like you said her music is never a problem she is a beast and very creative and still makes great pop music that’s just not appreciated and have you instead of pressuring her to drop content question how does she feels she drops iconic pop songs and they end up being flops? Do you want to wonder how over she might be over it, she is Christina Aguilera the world should automatically like her music just as they like other pop artist music that’d not as good, it’s a matter of things that are out of her hands, she is a legendary vocalist and that will live up for history as a fact, she knows that and is not that she doesn’t care about us is that you said it yourself she proved herself a long time ago, she drops music to please us not to make hits and when she drop music is always music we will love as fans and that for me is more than enough, that’s just my opinion as one of her biggest huge enormous fans. Well, to say things about Christina (Fighters, don't come for meee!) is that she's done her contribution to music during her very first appearance in the music scene and during the Stripped and Back to Basics era.....she was at the peak of her career at that time. But, we got Ariana Grande in replacement because that is the taste of music for the millennials.
I mean, 2003 was my birth.......which means, I was born during the "Dirrty" days when Christina was "X-Tina". My favorite was "The Voice Within", it helped me a lot to just keep going with life no matter how hard it would get. Sure, "Reflection" was only the warm up, but, it seems that the people of today when they hear "Christina Aguilera", they think, "oh, is that 'Moves Like Jagger', 'Say Something'", etc, etc...
It doesn't matter if you hold on to nostalgia or go with new stuff, all I care is that she's done something for music. Period.
But, to be honest...I may not be a fan of Christina Aguilera but of Michael Jackson's career (still, don't turn on me, you Christina fans), but she is ALSO one of my nostalgic favorites as a kid. I used to be spellbound by her singing. Heck, even planned to sing "I Turn To You" in my style of singing using Christina's voice to make a duet version.
So, to the Fighters...here's a kiss and a hug from a Moonwalker fan (a fan of Michael Jackson). Just remember, there is also part of me who is also a FIGHTER too. A humble FIGHTER you might say with a FIGHTING SPIRIT.
I still give all my wishes to Miss Christina Aguilera and her fans a good luck for many more years to come.....may the genie make all your wishes come true.
Sincerely yours, a Moonwalker fan to a bunch of Fighters.

I can only speak for myself.
I'm a huge fan of hers since the album Stripped (it might be because those were my teenage formative years), and respected her ever since. It was a beautiful mix of vulnerability and strength I came to admire about her.
Back to Basics album was her most emotionally and vocally mature material, where she showed her grown woman side.
When it came time for the album Bionic, she lost me a bit. I remember feeling confused about the leading single and album as a whole.
There were some amazing ballads on that album, some of her best work yet, but it made no sense to me - at the time we still had no idea that her marriage was falling apart, and she was going through a rough period.
Besides those ballads, most of the other songs on the album were overly sexualized, and the project as a whole seemed kind of a desperate attempt at portraying false self-confidence.
And once the personal struggle became obvious, the album hype has already passed. Not enough people connected with the mixed messaging of the material - and album consequentially commercially failed.
Then came time for the next album - Lotus, the one that came after her first commercial flop.
For the first time since I became a fan, I saw that she had no clear concept of it - musically or visually. It seemed forced, like she needed to prove to the world that she can make a quick comeback - using a popular tv show that she was on (The Voice).
Again, some nice ballads, plus few catchy songs, nothing personal or substantial.
When that album became even less commercially successful than Bionic, then came the long wait for her next project.
And it was too long of a wait. But one thing changed - I came to expect less, or at least not too much. Liberation album was exactly that, not pretentious.
I liked the visual low or no makeup representation, and the Fall in Line single was first in a long time that I understood instantly.
She finally realized that there's nothing left to prove to the world, she is a successful singer with both critical and commercial acclaim. No success comes without ups and downs.
I also matured in the meantime, and I realize there's more to just sales and numbers. There's life!
I'm actually looking forward to this album in Spanish. So far so good with the first two singles... she's showing matureness again and it's promising.

Same, I love her SOOO much and adore her old music, I used to listen to Stripped and Back to basics again and again.
Vocally speaking, as someone who's had a few years of vocal training, I think her biggest problem is actually her tongue placement. Her tongue is placed quite far back to give this artificial 'fullness' that I think is inefficient and unnecessary, it just makes her voice a bit muffled. I know she wants to imitate Etta James and other sings who sing with really full voices, but that's not what these singers were doing tho...... and it's just a specific technique that can be learned easily with vocal coaches.
Over the years I think she's also been using a lot of very full chest voice and distortion which I like in moderation, but she should get a coach to start mixing again to hit those high notes. I fully believe she can hit F5 and above in a mixed chest voice easily if she gets the vocal placement right and allows the muscles for her head voice to do the work.
But more importantly, her new songs haven't really connected to me as much as her old songs. I love when she shows off vocal agility and high notes, but it has to be in a suitable context and spaced out, or else the entire song just becomes a vocal exercise. I think she should really look within herself right now and see what she wants to tell the world, and collaborate with song writers that can help turn them into beautiful songs that really resonates with our hearts. The world already knows she can do the craziest runs, but I think what we really want are soulful songs that we can cry to, laugh to, and connect with emotionally.
I also feel like she can get a bit defensive about her music and vocal style, and probably doesn't listen to most producer's opinions. But after a few mediocre albums I think she should be honest with herself that her music just isn't as good as it was, and perhaps seek out people whom she respects for their honest opinions. I think she tends to overcomplicate things for herself and really needs someone to simply and strip away the unnecessary ornaments.
But regardless, she's had a crazy successful music career already and she really has nothing else to prove to the world. I'm just a selfish fan who loves her voice and wants to hear some new amazing music from her! Most importantly, hope she's enjoying and living her best life!

7:50 :" Europe, UK and North America". UK is in Europe xDD.
But yeah, I completely understand you, you are right one what you say. Sometimes I feel a bit like that for Celine, that she could have had released some more albums instead of waiting so long, that her albums were marvellous and didn't get the attention they deserved due to lack of promotion. But definitely not comparable situations. Celine is an older generation, a living legend with immeasurable contribution to worldwide pop music and culture, Christina is a newer generation and in the last decade she could do much more than she did, and is definitely not at Cèline's legend level (and I doubt she will ever be).
