I like Mariah's whistles in her songs because she doesn't use them to show off or be extra. She just adds it like a cherry on top of a cake and they're subtle too.
I couldnt agree. Mariah is a backround singer back then, she know and she learn for along time to created a harmonize. She used her whistle for harmonize and she knew the time to do that
Yeah, and both of them worked hard for that. After Ariana’s cover of Emotions, most ppl questioned her capability to do it live and speculated that she used a lot of autotune, but then she started demonstrating her skills live, and even using whistle in her songs. Morissette, too. She used to get messy in the Emotions climax but now, she has almost full control over her whistle. Plus the “Di Mapaliwanag” whistle riff is really hard but she always nails it. They are amazing!
She's a lightweight singer, no sustainability, Morissette is far superior in every department, Ariana is so overrated, put them on the same stage together it would be embarrassing for Ariana.
@@steveheckle8847 Ariana definitely isn't overrated. At the start of her career maybe but she's improved a considerable amount since then. Her whistles have become far more consistent and she's gotten a lot more comfortable singing in that range, even adding whistles into "Rain On Me", a song that isn't solely hers. She also displayed that she has immense control over her whistles when she harmonized with Mariah in "Oh Santa", by showing her whistles could extend to the low extremes of that register. Now if your talking about both of them as an overall vocalist, then yes Morissette has the advantage, but Ariana has improved her support immensely recently. I'm going to admit that I haven't really been keeping up with Morissette for a while now, but Ariana now supports up to an E5, one note lower than Morissette as far as I'm aware. Ariana was overrated but now I think she deserves all that praise.

Many can whistle and play with it but when it comes to Mariah, her whistles are like rainbow with so many colors and etc. Hopefully we will get to see these singers explore more of this register.

I'm hoping that the vocal coach Normani is working with is helping her strengthen the resonance and control to her voice and helping her establish a better, healthier connection for such high notes like these. I'm hoping they are also helping her with her belting because she honestly does have the capabilities to be a very interesting vocalist. She has the range and the agility as well as a very sweet and captivating tone, her breathe control for the most part is on point for someone who does such challenging choreography during their performances, she just needs to dedicate her time to wanting to perfect her voice.
Agreed on top of that she shows potential in versatility and innovation of her voice like take her demo version of Selena Gomez’s ring, where she brings a unique cross of vocal styling in jazz, soul, and reggae
epic and syco never giving any of the 5H girls a single ounce of proper vocal training has never sat right with me. from xfactor up to self titled, they literally let Lauren and Normani regresss by a large scale.

Morisette has showcased her whistle countless times in her live performances and can even whistle while her mouth is closed. I'd rather say Morissette is a songbird supreme tier while Mariah Carey is a God-level songbird supreme.
So does Ariana? LMAO they're the same when it comes to whistle register. Ariana didn't use to use it that much because people already compared her too much to Mariah, so she kept it inside, built her career with her own musical style and THEN she started using it.
Rúben Silva but Mori's level are a lot better in my opinion. Ariana's often sound too airy. The "my hair" verse is a good example. I wasn't really that satisfied with the live performance. There was barely any tone present. Just huskiness.
It's because it kinda is. It's a special, connected register that is the highest form of head voice. She was so good at it because she was completely trained as an opera singer
@@narutohyuga1845 so flageolet, im guessing?? i don’t know much about it but i know that i use it sometimes when i attempt to hit whistle notes cause idk i know you can modify whistle register and make sound strong head voice like or vary airy like falsetto but it just feels completely different compare to what whistle registers feels like or at least what i know it as anyway. im not trained in music at all so i could be completely wrong about my own usage of registers lol

@@narutohyuga1845 i keep going back to the video to see if she transitions to head voice or not and i can’t really tell so she might have just been using flageolet the entire time before that since it is easier to go lower and sound more natural in that register when stepping down to the 5th octave compare to whistle where you can usually tell.

I’m loving the improvement and maturing Ariana’s voice is going through 😩!! And Normani has so much potential up there I just can’t stress the fact enough that I hope her vocal coach her guiding on the right path cause her potential through her range really is crazy and I love her❤️.
unless she doesn't whistle too often, that's not a good thing. Anyone who can whistle well could do it live all the time if they wanted to. That's not unique to her. But it wouldn't be healthy in the long run.

Good thing she still managed to have this voice and skills. Morissette is very close to that SS level because she's actually used whistles in her original music. Maybe more creativity and years and she'll be in there. Oh and I think it's pronounced /teer/.
Awesome, thanks for including Morissette. Did you see her sing Pangarap Ko Ibigan Ka and Di Mapaliwanag? Whistles for days. She even whistled along to MC’s Bliss recently for fun. Her I wanna Know what love is whistle is pretty long along with her iconic Akin Ka Na Lang Wish Bus performance.
I think demi should've been in kettles with ailee, cause her laughs are all whistle notes, also she has crazy range in it, but she's definetly not good enough to be with Kelly and Jessie in we're getting somewhere

Normani's potential is definetly there. She is currently recording her debut album and I am sure she is going to use her whistle register on at least one song if not a few songs.
It was an M3 laryngeal vibratory mechanism. Actual high sixth octave head tone (M2) sounds different. Listen to Chrylyn Bell-Myers or Francine Jones for a good example.
You have to watch morissette's ''I wanna know what love is'' cover. Her whistle register in that song is very strong, clear, and extended and I think it's 14secs

The term on what is called does not change when they enter a certain pitch, it is the mechanism they use which is identified by the sound. Whistles sound piercing while head voice still has weight because they still use vocal cords.
I was actually waiting for you to put Chante Moore in the Songbird Supreme tier as well. Her control, ease, melisma, play with textures, dynamics, phrasing and stamina in whistle register is ridiculously insane

Lovely video! The only thing I didn’t agree with is I would add Morissette to the top, and Jessie up one and Christina down one. Only reason I would add Morissette is because she is so consistent, perfect control and tone, and tbh even though she wasn’t a huge pioneer I personally find her whistles are more full and consistent than Mariah.
I read an article that the tone of your whistle is pretty same as your normal voice. Morissette's vocals are so powerful that is why her whistle is kinda solid and has resonance. Same goes with Queen Mariah. Her whistle follows her whispery voice.
By the way, I am from the Philippines and Mori is a big fan of Mariah. She's big in our country but like others do, adoring Mariah is a thing. (Sorry for my grammar) Mori is also a fan of Beyonce, Christina and Jessie. Jessie actually had a duet with Mori when Mori just started her career last 2013 I guess.
I think Morissette's whistles by themselves have very often rivalled that of the two in Songbird Supremes, but I think to really reach that category you need to have influenced and catapulted whistling in the industry and in society. Both Mimi and Minnie have done that, while the rest (with all due respect as someone who will never reach their statuses) jumped on a bandwagon as best they could. Some did better on that bandwagon, like Mori and Ari, and some did worse.
@@kwaziness Her whistle register is very excellent but her control just isn’t up there with Mimi or Minnie. She’s pitchy and sometimes they don’t musically fit when she’s singing. Mimi and Minnie are pitch perfect 99% of the time and I’ve never heard them oversing or anything with this register
Im a fan but i must say morissette's problem is being pitchy in some of her whistle her control is pretty good she has so much video that prove she can control those whistles sometimes her whistles is inconsistent because she has so many gig/Shows and lack of rest but over all she is the DAUGHTER of my queen MC ♥

I understand and agree with most of what you pointed, but I wish you would've considered exclamation as a indicative that a singer as potential to develop a whistle register. Demi for an example, does exclamation all the time with a unbelievable ease and she also often hits some 6th octave notes while laughing. I mean I know that a exclamation is not a whistle, but I think if you can exclamate a clear Bb7, you have potential on whistles. They’re not as popular but I love them because talent is talent and skill should be recognized! Chante Moore: Songbird Supreme. This woman should sit next to Mariah Carey in her level of skill in this area! It’s not so much her creativity or agility here BUT her freaking stamina! She has live performances singing upwards of 10 straight minutes in this register. I don’t know anyone else who can manage that!! I honestly don’t even think Mariah could do that! Lisa Fischer : Mariah’s Daughter. Kinda ironic considering Lisa is actually also someone who inspired Mariah Carey to do what she does. “How Can I Ease The Pain” This song alone is enough in my opinion . AMAZING! Betty Wright: Mariah’s Daughter. RIP MAMA. She’s not quite at the level of creativity of Mariah BUT THAT RANGE ! Oh my word that range! She makes it look easy! I would recommend the songs “No Pain , No Gain” or “After the Pain.” She’s even done a cover of Mariah’s Carey’s Emotions as a tribute. Brandy: Mariah’s Daughters. This woman excels in just about every area a vocalist can! She doesn’t use it much but it’s pretty clear that is a style preference. If she really wanted to she’d be sitting next to Ariana with her overall vocals and technique! Georgia Brown: Kettles. She has one of the largest ranges in music history (Guiness Book of Record holders) BUT her overall style leaves little to be desired! The fact that she can sing that high is something special but what she does with it certainly ain't! Debelah Morgan: The potential is there. She actually once sang on a stage with Mariah Carey herself for a charity event.. But sadly her music career didn’t quite take off! Her songs “Dance With Me” and any LIVE version of “Close To You” shows agility, stamina and one of the fastest staccato runs in whistles no less! Truly breathtaking! Amel Larrieux: Mariah’s Daughter. When I was a little girl my biggest dream / goal was hitting the notes at the end of her song “For Real” . I’ve decided that level of ingenuity and agility just isn’t humanly possible!
I thought perhaps you might consider doing the same for male vocalists. Piet Arion is a stunning singer and he has mastered his whistle register. He has just released his first two singles but he has been posting cover videos on TH-cam for over a dozen years. Going back to this first videos from over 12 years ago, he was already handling his whistle extremely well. This was way before nearly all of the female vocalists that you presented here. Two years ago he recorded his version of Billie Eilish’s, Academy Award winning song, “No Time to Die”. This is a good example of his vocal talent.

Rúben Silva but Mori's level are a lot better in my opinion. Ariana's often sound too airy. The "my hair" verse is a good example. I wasn't really that satisfied with the live performance. There was barely any tone present. Just huskiness.

Whistles sound piercing while head voice still has weight because they still use vocal cords.

Lovely video! The only thing I didn’t agree with is I would add Morissette to the top, and Jessie up one and Christina down one. Only reason I would add Morissette is because she is so consistent, perfect control and tone, and tbh even though she wasn’t a huge pioneer I personally find her whistles are more full and consistent than Mariah.
I read an article that the tone of your whistle is pretty same as your normal voice. Morissette's vocals are so powerful that is why her whistle is kinda solid and has resonance. Same goes with Queen Mariah. Her whistle follows her whispery voice.
By the way, I am from the Philippines and Mori is a big fan of Mariah. She's big in our country but like others do, adoring Mariah is a thing. (Sorry for my grammar) Mori is also a fan of Beyonce, Christina and Jessie. Jessie actually had a duet with Mori when Mori just started her career last 2013 I guess.

I think Morissette's whistles by themselves have very often rivalled that of the two in Songbird Supremes, but I think to really reach that category you need to have influenced and catapulted whistling in the industry and in society. Both Mimi and Minnie have done that, while the rest (with all due respect as someone who will never reach their statuses) jumped on a bandwagon as best they could. Some did better on that bandwagon, like Mori and Ari, and some did worse.

Betty Wright: Mariah’s Daughter. RIP MAMA. She’s not quite at the level of creativity of Mariah BUT THAT RANGE ! Oh my word that range! She makes it look easy! I would recommend the songs “No Pain , No Gain” or “After the Pain.” She’s even done a cover of Mariah’s Carey’s Emotions as a tribute.
Brandy: Mariah’s Daughters. This woman excels in just about every area a vocalist can! She doesn’t use it much but it’s pretty clear that is a style preference. If she really wanted to she’d be sitting next to Ariana with her overall vocals and technique!
Georgia Brown: Kettles. She has one of the largest ranges in music history (Guiness Book of Record holders) BUT her overall style leaves little to be desired! The fact that she can sing that high is something special but what she does with it certainly ain't!
Debelah Morgan: The potential is there. She actually once sang on a stage with Mariah Carey herself for a charity event.. But sadly her music career didn’t quite take off! Her songs “Dance With Me” and any LIVE version of “Close To You” shows agility, stamina and one of the fastest staccato runs in whistles no less! Truly breathtaking!
Amel Larrieux: Mariah’s Daughter. When I was a little girl my biggest dream / goal was hitting the notes at the end of her song “For Real” . I’ve decided that level of ingenuity and agility just isn’t humanly possible!

I thought perhaps you might consider doing the same for male vocalists. Piet Arion is a stunning singer and he has mastered his whistle register. He has just released his first two singles but he has been posting cover videos on TH-cam for over a dozen years. Going back to this first videos from over 12 years ago, he was already handling his whistle extremely well. This was way before nearly all of the female vocalists that you presented here. Two years ago he recorded his version of Billie Eilish’s, Academy Award winning song, “No Time to Die”. This is a good example of his vocal talent.
