  • The quick disconnects were both the culprit, I did try and use originals during diagnosis but ultimately wasn’t able to figure it out so big thank you to Milan at Trailercraft for dialing this thing in!

    Did I miss the part or a video on how to adjust the valves for up and down ? I just bought a exact unit you have and installed it today I can get it to go left and right but when you try to lift the plow it is acting like its by passing fluid the up ram lifts to full ram out no load and if you hook the plow chain on the ram lifts till the chain is tight and thats it won't lift plow off ground and you can push the ram back down by hand So cable adjust or valve adjustment or both ?

      Sounds like your lift valve is out of adjustment allowing fluid to bypass lift ram and back into reservoir.
      Check out page 6 of guide for trouble shooting:

      Read the guide carefully, I think adjust lift valve first then fine tune with cable adjustments

    So when I hit my levers left and right it wants to raise the plow

      Hi Chris, usually this is caused by an improperly adjusted Lift Valve; you can look up a downloadable repair manual/troubleshooting guide and it will instruct you how to adjust it. Let me know if you have any trouble finding one, use the Western Mark IIIa Cable Conventional Plow for looking up info.

      Lift valve is stuck slightly in the up position when it should be in neutral. Adjust the cable back down some.

    Plow would not stay up, plow would not turn in up position, plow would turn in down position but would raise at the same time, pulled cleaned and re-oringed check valve. Plow will now stay up but still has same turn issues???

      It sounds like you’ve got a couple things out of adjustment, mainly the lift valve, but I would also check everything. Check out this mechanics guide and look in the troubleshooting section. Let me know if anything helps or if you have anymore questions!

    I have the same plow and my plow will go side to side. The motor will go all the way up if I don’t have the blade hooked up. Once I Hook the chain up for the blade you it won’t lift the plow off the ground. Any ideas?

    • @LastFrontierGarage
      @LastFrontierGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your lift valve is out of adjustment, it’s trying to build hydraulic pressure to lift ram but fluid is able to push behind valve back into reservoir.

      There is a mechanics trouble shooting guid available that will lead you through a simple diagnosis and adjustment, let me find it a I’ll post below:

    No better time than the beginning of summer to find a steal of a deal on a 79 Ford with one of these plows on it. It has issues turning left and I'll be relying heavily on this video. I really appreciate you vlogging your journey & issues with yours. It will be a huge help!

    If you wanna save some time on the side adjustment take the arm off and shorten it. May only be able to cut out 1/32 of an inch but ive spent days trying to get the adjustment correct on the side to side and some of them are just un fixable. Shorten the arm and it will fix it. The up and down adjustment you can usually fix by adjusting one way or another but the side to side can be a nightmare.

      Can you explain this better? My Mark 3a can only go to one side. It will not move back once it's angled to the one side. What Is the "arm" you talk about?

    Thanks for this video! I went through much the same as you. Ive rebuilt the pump 3 times in the past couple years and replaced both angle rams. And my hoses and couplers. I also live in Ak. Bet we both got couplers out of the same batch! Ive had slow turn, or no turn. Changed couplers and now I'm 3 seconds from full turn to full turn both left and right.

    Mine quit angling after i put new quick disconnects on. Up and down works like a champ. But left/right didn't quit right away. I think I'll put the old ones back on.

    • @LastFrontierGarage
      @LastFrontierGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The fix on mine ended up being faulty brand new disconnects, definitely look around there, let us know how it goes!

    • @chulew
      @chulew ปีที่แล้ว

      No change after putting the originals back on. The manual suggests adjusting the lift valve which I think is the round plug that takes an Allen wrench just below the overhang facing front. I tried 1/8th to 1/4 turns both ways with no difference. The 4-way looks like it turns 45 degrees both ways like the manual says. If the screen is clogged, would it still be working to raise and lower? When I went to check the fluid level, it was overfilled so maybe I blew a seal? I can manually turn the blade when the cylinders are connected to each other in a loop so they are not stuck and they don't move after I hook back up to the pump. I was able to plow all to the left and then all to the right like this. How do I properly clean and flush the unit, check for clogs? One local plow shop is afraid to fiddle with cable driven systems, says they sometimes never work again. I wonder if they just don't know how they work.

      @@chulew after you put new disconnects on, did you mean left right stopped working eighth away or it slowly started to stop? It might take some adapters but you can try to hook up lines directly from pump to rams, bypassing disconnects altogether just to determine if they still might be causing problems, you might get another new set of higher quality and try those. I was chasing my tail for a while thinking I had figured it wasn’t quick disconnects and it ended up being one of them allowing fluid one way but not the other.

    Hey man I got the same plow as yours been plowing with it for better part of 5 yrs. Been great but they have their flaws cables break unexpectedly and seems to need replaced after 2 or 3 seasons, however I was curious bout how you have your electrical hooked up for the unit. I have my solenoid powered from the battery and when activated it drops voltage to 10.5-11.5v. Heavy usage of the plow motor then the lights begin to fade. We're at a point now after years running like this that I need to replace said battery. Should I try hooking up to alternator instead or should i be looking at a dual battery setup like u mentioned at end of vid? Love the square bod. I'm sorta a same plow unit, an 87 dodge w100 318.

    • @LastFrontierGarage

      I would have it hooked up just like the Mechanics Guide/Service Guide shows; it sounds like your battery is getting old and tired, you can charge it up to 100% then load test it and see if it stays within spec. My lights were dimming a lot too due to the low charge state of my old battery. I went ahead and got a more expensive AGM battery with extra cranking amps and it’s been doing great. Once you have a fully charged battery you can test charging voltage with vehicle running as well, it should be between 13.7-14.9 volts or so.

      big thing that helped me with that problem was going to a "plow fluid" not just ATF like. 2 batteries are great but the expensive plow fulid made it a ton better.
