- It was my pleasure to create this video about Brother Yusef Lateef in honor of his 100th birthday. Thank you to Glenn Siegal and Univ. of Mass. for asking all of us and putting together the wonderful program of 100 videos.
His kindness, his intellect, his air… what a profound gift to us. Brother Yusef, oh brother! Peace, Love, and Happiness in your next incarnation
Blessed to have seen you and brother Yusef at Electric Lodge in Venice several times. Wonderful tribute to a special man. Thank you.
A magic musician, I had the pleasure to see him play two times in jazz festivals in Norway. ❤
What a great quote: The tradition is to sound like yourself.
thank you so Mach it is so inspirit 🙏🎷🎶
I did get to see him once in the mid 70s in SF at the Both/And club. He played a wooden flute beautifully. I love his traditional jazz performances of Angel Eyes and Yesterdays. Truly a master of Reed instruments and improvisation.
Thank you for your memories; I am in deep agreement regarding Yusef. I'm a pop musician and sax player who only recently became absorbed in Yusef's playing and compositions. That he was technically a virtuoso is undeniable, his work with Cannonball displayed that easily. Then there is a track on 1968's The Blue Yusef Lateef, "Like It Is" that continues to captivate me, starting with the bamboo flute solo leading to one of the funkiest tenor sax solos I've ever heard. Such an evocative atmospheric composition. He was a genius.
great adam
Thanks for your wonderful insight. Really appreciated. I recently encountered his music in "The Blue Yusef Lateef" and I immediately recognized his talent and the spiritual search he did through music. Definitely gonna listen to more of his stuff
Greatly appreciate this, thank you for the knowledge
Thank you for sharing. The music you made together is divine!
Beautiful Tribute, Yow-Wah !!

so refreshing finding this video, in todays endless noise, regurgitated lines and all other unoriginal junk... when happening cats care about searching instead of $ or fame...
