This was a very tender piece to create. The intricacies in the woodwinds are the most detailed in the entire show. It was fun to craft them.
This is a tragic and beautiful moment, and the flute mirrors the tenderness that Marius feels toward Eponine, even though it's not the 'love' that she wishes it was. Eponine lives (and dies) for this moment. Finally, ending up in Marius' arms, she is content to die just like this. She tries to appear tough, but in reality she is and always has been fragile like a flower. The rain, which is a theme for Eponine (In 'On My Own', walking alone in the rain) and it echoes the tragedy of her life, and in this moment, this rain and tragedy will no longer hurt her. It will only make the flowers grow.

I can't go through this song without crying. Same with watching the play. This scene is so powerful and saddening. All she ever wanted was to be in his arms, and only gets her wish upon death.
Even though this is just an accompaniment. I can still hear the voices of Lea Salonga(Éponine) and Michael Ball(Marius) singing their parts in A Little Fall of Rain in 10th Anniversary of Les Misérables😆

I really hope i get the opportunity to play eponine one day. If i can sing this song and make people cry, then i’ve truly succeeded as a performer
If you think about it, that made it much more realistic. She was dying, she barely had enough energy to look at Marius let alone sing with him. I think that shortening the song made it all the more heart-breaking.

I think the reason they shortened it was because the verses they took out lend themselves to a powerful voice. "The rain that sent you here is heaven blessed" would be pretty difficult to sing weakly.
