He’s your prototypical 5 star ‘athlete’. He’s an amazing song writer, not just for himself either. He’s written multiple hits for people in and out of country music. His voice speaks for itself. His guitar playing is so clean; he rarely if ever makes a mistake. He’s the type of guy that has a guitar in hand every possible minute; it’s what he says gives him comfort and lastly, he’s a true performer. You can only truly judge someone’s talent by how they perform live vs on record and clearly, he shines. Enjoy Chris Stapleton, everyone should!
He started off as a song writer, he wrote many hits for many artists and his wife and friends convinced him to start writing his own and singing them. As you can tell the man is just flawless with his singing and the guitar solo speaks for it self lol. This man is going to go down to be a legend for what he is going to accomplish.

He is known for all three... but prior to becoming famous for his voice and his guitar he was famous for his song writing. He wrote numerous hits (many number 1s) for other artist. I was lucky to follow him and realize his talent before he broke out on his own. Truly a once in a generation talent.
Thank you again for this! Chris and his band are like the Allman's, Gvm't Mule, Skynyrd, etc. Jam bands never play the same way twice! The drummer is waiting for cues as to which way it's going! Spontaneity!

The song was written by Chris Stapleton and Craig Wiseman. As of 2018, Stapleton has amassed credits writing and co-writing over 170 songs.He has co-written six number-one country songs. His songs have appeared on many artists albums including Adele, Brad Paisley, and Dierks Bentley.[10] He has co-written with several artists as well including Vince Gill, Peter Frampton, and Sheryl Crow. I never really liked country music until I heard Chris Stapleton. He's more blues than country, which is probably why I like his songs so much. He is very well known as a song writer, a singer (he was in 2 bands-Steeldrivers & Jompson Brothers), then a guitar player. His wife, Morgane Stapleton, is his backup singer. He's dope af. He's so good I'd pay to go see him live in concert and for me, that's saying a lot.
To answer your question: He's known mainly as a singer/song writer. But he absolutely crushes it on guitar in this song. No doubt about it...

Chris is a good guitar player, a great singer, and an excellent songwriter. In guitar circles he's not even near the top level, and he would admit that I'm sure. But as a singer/songwriter he is an absolute American classic.
Chris is the only artist that I get impatient for the guitar solo to be over with, because I want him to start SANGING again! . I've loved that man & his voice since I first saw him doing a duet with Justin Timberlake on the CMA awards in 2015 (which you should check out on a future FNL. They did 2 songs, Tennessee Whiskey & Drink You Away).
Also would (still) love to see you do Bonnie Raitt- Love Letter- Live at Farm Aid '89.
My favorite Chris song and live performance. The way he sings and the band lays down that grove and follows Chris’ nonverbal cues for the final solo and how Chris will hang on a note with sustained vibrato to be wise the tension then release it. Very laid back vibe.

That is exactly the vibe. I have all his music on vinyl and when I want to unwind I throw it on the turntable and like calgon I let it take me away with a drink in my hand. He started writing for other people successfully then someone convinced him to sing his own songs. Thank God for them. He also sings with the Steeldrivers and the Jompson Brothers. Haven’t heard a bad song yet. You should check out Death Row by Chris. Down and dirty tune you’ll like.

I'd say he's known for his voice. He's alright on the guitar, definitely not one of the greats. But he is one of the greats when it comes to his vocals. If you want to hear another awesome song by him, go with 'Death row'.
he plays the way he sings... with "feel". He's plenty proficient. his particular style doesn't need him to be a Satriani or Hendrix... it's all about the groove.

Hard to believe. Combine it with his voice. Amazing. He’s a pretty good guitarist but as he said...l lost so many leads over the years I had to learn, I am no Stevie Ray Vaughn. Lol.
He is known for his writing. He has written #1 hits for people like Adele. Wrote for 15yrs before his solo stuff. It's not until the last few yrs that people saw his vocal talents. Pryor to his solo efforts he has won Grammys for his writing and his vocal work with the bluegrass band " The Steele Drivers". He was also the the lead singer to a rock band called The Jompson Brothers. His guitar playing isn't considered all that spectacular but considered quality. A style that is simple that is uniquely his. To me his guitar philosophy is similar to John Lee Hooker. Meaning you don't need to be fancy in order to be good or add to the song as a whole.

Yeah, you're right, the drummer does keep the time, but during a long guitar solo the guitarist doesn't always play a solo the same way twice, and the other band members have to watch to see what the guitarist is doing, so that they can hit the changes at the right point.
