I charged mine by putting the fob on the Oral B electric toothbrush charging station, it uses the same charging tech so will work. You have to play around with the positioning but really works well. Mine is a 2005 E60 and all the keys were charged this way from completely dead for years. Hope this comment helps.

Cars with comfort access, the key fob battery is replaceable. Non-comfort access cars, the key fob battery is rechargeable when it is inserted in the key receptacle.
The reason is with comfort access you don’t need to insert the key fob to start the car, as long as you have it with you. That’s why the battery is replaceable, people just have the key fob in their pocket or purse. It’s like this for US BMW e90. Not sure about other countries.

Good video, however, comfort access fobs don't charge up, they have disposable 2032 batteries, and they're not rechargeable, nor is the wired with induction coils for charging either. So if you have comfort access, you can drive with the fob in your pocket for a couple year's, and replace the simple battery when range or the battery icon appears on the dash. I repeat, disposable batteries do not charge. Non comfort access cars are in fact exactly as this video stated. They must be charged. And don't have replaceable batteries. People cut them open to make the change, however, once you remove the rechargeable battery, and replace it with a readily available one at any store, you run the risk of at the very least battery leaks, non rechargeable batteries will not respond well to being charged. There is a reason why some controller's open, while others don't. The one that do, comfort access cars, as those are regular batteries, designed to last only a couple year's. Your non comfort access cars with the rechargeable batteries. Tend to last upwards of 10 plus year's
    I hope this helps.

This response makes the most sense. So am I forced to go to the dealership to replace the " Non-Replacable" battery.
My fob is now intermittent, not very often will it open the lock or engage the lock. I have to used the actual key to unlock and lock the door, but when I slide into cassette port vehicle starts just fine.
      Any confirmation would be great.

Partly incorrect, Some bmw keys including mine are a sealed unit with a rechargeable battery built in. It takes according to the manual 60 hours of driving to fully charge from dead. States right in the manual it's rechargeable. I've heard you can use a wireless charger, toothbrush charger, watch charger to charge them. However it doesn't work for mine as I came here because my battery is low.

Great timing, Dean as I was going to ask you about my E82 fobs.
I always alternate my two fobs to keep them charged.
My 1er is 2008 and I do not have comfort access so I need to insert into the cartridge.
When I first bought the car (new) my spare fob went "missing" for three years. It was hibernating in one of my wife's purses that she used on a trip (bring spare in case primary goes missing). After three years it worked no problem.
Question: how long will these fob batteries last do you think? They're essentially twelve + years old now so far no issues.
Look fwd to your upcoming battery replacement vid thx again boss!

got same key on X5 E70. using one key i used to open my car from about 20meters, not have to be about 2-3meters away from the car... sounds like battery? I'm driving minimum 70mins on motorway everyday, so the key should charge, if it is not charging how to replace the battery? the key is sealed, like a glue...

Honestly idk might want to Google it up and see what the forms say. You won't be the only one with that issue . First time I heard of it. I'm guessing weak battery and also might be a issue with the hood sensor.

Quick question if anyone can help. Me being the idiot I am have just realised I’ve been running my 325i 3.0 N53 engine on 5w30 Castrol edge titanium but I’ve put the VW stuff in instead of the BMW castrol oil. I’ve done about 4K miles since I’ve put it in. I’ve had no problems Upto now but I’m dropping the oil now and putting the right BMW castrol in. Will it of done much damage do you think?

    • @naliinsuthakaran2967
      @naliinsuthakaran2967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Not noticeable It may have 'deteriorated' the timing chain but that is SO unlikely. It may give issues in the future however it is the correct viscosity so the lubrication would have been adequate. The standards are for the additives. 4K miles is about halfway through an oil change not a lot of damage would have been caused if any. Just make sure to cut the oil changes in half for the next 2-3 changes. 3k or 3-4 months and then put some LL01 or LL04 standard oil -whichever it requires. AND do the filter as well when doing the changes. Hope it helps. Best of luck!

There 'maybe' a module for it that may not be working correctly. Post this on the forums. I only have one key on my e87 118d(same key as urs) nd it can be frustrating haha. They do cost a bit to get new keys however
