Staithes, Runswick and R.H.B.... the Holy Trinity of Yorkshire coastal villages. I'm watching these videos from Adelaide, Australia, with a tear in my eye. Places I'll probably never see again, except on here.
Spent several wonderful holidays as a boy here..courtesy of the Coulter/Jackson/Deerhurst fraternity....They had a cottage last but one at the very top of the village nestled between the Coverdales and the Ford's...I secretly fancied Ginny Coverdale, but she was a year older than me and therefore regarded me as a kid...lol...although she was very pleasant and taught Pat Coulter and I how to play Mah Jong...Happy, happy days!....

The cafe where the big queue is a fairly recent addition. It used to be in the front room of the white house immediately behind. I remember having lunch there over fifty years ago 😂

Im from Mallorca and I stayed in runswick Bay 20 years ago for 2 years in my mother's in law house the house on the wall. She take care of me so well.this place was magic, so beautiful place!! Will go back one day!!
I stayed in Staithes just along the coast for a week with my wife and two daughters, we came here a few times great swimming in sea and great beach very shallow water perfect for paddeling and swimming👍👍. Great video thanks for the memories.
Great video, queues look doubly long because of social distancing. I have lived at Runswick Bay for 7 years and I loved when someone pointed out Crocodile Rock - the cliff on the right looking out to sea looks just like a crocodile and when the sun catches it in a certain position you can make out an eye :)
Beautiful we enjoyed our day there so much. Just be careful though it may look like there is loads of beach left but the exit can get cut off when the tide comes in. We had to wade well over our knees to reach the ramp up to the road!! Very damp journey home but worth it 😂
I used to go there a lot as a kid in the 60s (my uncle owned a cottage and my Dad had a catamaran at the yacht club) and still drop in when I'm passing for a pint at the Royal. The Cliffmount Hotel at the top has a great view. The seaweed can smell and also attract flies when it's hot and if the wind is blowing it can still be cold. Inland there're lots of places to go on the moors and dales.
Awesome - that's made me happy! If I can inspire people to visit these places I've done my job well! Just check out the hill down to the beach in your car first ideally - it's a brutal climb back up!
Not been for years, lovely views but not my favourite place. I see the queues haven't gone down 😂 that was the problem and some idiot would always spoil the day. I guess more facilities might alter the feel of the place, it's a difficult one. Nice to have a wander round again, cheers 👍
Great film of our pretty village. Just a few notes to point out, the boat trips are private boat owners and the kayaks you show are not available to hire. No boat trips operate from Runswick but they do from Staithes and Whitby. Barefoot Kayak operate kayak and paddleboard hire in the summer season at the other side of the beach. It’s 8 miles North of Whitby

Appreciate you may have been short of time but you missed out the wonderful narrow streets and quaint cottages in Runswick. It is also right on the Cleveland way National trail.
@@malcolmshearstone9258 There is yes Malcolm - it's at the top of the Bay before you walk down the hill. There's even an overflow carpark in fields for when it gets busy
Why didn't you visit the town itself and not just the bay. There are some cute little streets and the views over the bay from them you have missed out on.
You defo need to do a boat ride!! Yorkshire coastline is made to help u burn off fish,chips and ice cream lol 😂😂. Another great vid, keep on walking x😀

I visited Runswick Bay about ten years ago in the June when it wasn't so busy . When talking to the cafe owner he hold me that the area was highly regulated, even down to what colour you could paint your property . Shame you didn't include a walk around the homes on the hillside although when I was there I felt as though the locals didn't like me wandering around .
We went to Runswick on our motorbikes in the hot summer of 1976 after a day in the fields above bailing hay and there was a little shack down there selling everything so decided to buy some sun lotion but unfortunately, they had run out, the only thing they had was jars of baby oil. Plastered with the newly acquired baby oil we had a sit in the sun to sunbathe for an hour and ended up coming off the beach looking like cooked lobsters.
Another great video as I always say great music I wish I done more travelling when I was younger but never had the money you say you can get Fosters there I’ve already got one I call her my wife😂
Ha ha no the opposite! I just only film where the sunshine is that day! Check the weather, see where it’s best, and drive like crazy there first thing in the morning!

Bank incredibly steep. Car parking mainly at the top of this steep hill. You need to be incredibly fit. I was waiting to see the boat trip! There are none. Water quality poor, might be best beach but the water is definitely not best. Can tick this beach off my list. Will definitely not be returning.
@@GimbalWalkTV Runswick wins a clean beach award consistently and water quality is regularly checked and validated as clean - that's why the waters are a designated Marine Conservation Zone. June must be mistaking it with somewhere else. There is ample car parking at the bottom.

There's a really steep hill down - I'd drive down and back up from the beach before parking up so you can get an idea of the walk down there!
