    Didn't know you could buy train tickets on Eurostar, very useful information.

      Yes, it is a very handy service in both directions to have London Underground or Paris Metro tickets pre-bought.
      Thanks for watching 👍

    Interesting video. Didn't realise metro tickets could be bought onboard - very useful to know! This is the only class on Eurostar I've not travelled - but seems to me to be the best choice. Same seat as business, cold meal instead of hot (I can live with that), no lounge access (not too fussed about St Pancras lounge) and considerably less expensive. The 2x1 config is more preferable to 2x2 if travelling solo.

      Yes, all very good points. And when travelling on an Interrail ticket the supplement is only a little more expensive than if going standard.
      Thanks for watching 👍

      Yes, I used to make the trip into Waterloo before they opened up St Pancras International.

      @@JohnnyHooverTravels The English countryside, villages and small stations were beautiful. But too often I took the journey in the dark or near dark. Must come back to London and travel the "new" line, HS1.

    I am fearing burn out if you keep this up! Appreciate the research you do. The highlight of this video for me was finding out that the piers at Gare du Nord where manufactured in the Second City of Empire. Glasgow has given us so much!

      I've done a lot of trips and have "film in the can", so I just need to get it edited and out in the world!
      I will try to not burn out 👍

    Hello Johnny, thanks for another accurate and detailed TH-cam. Sadly Eurostar has become something of a luxury way to travel to Paris given its high fares. Where's Ouigo (using those original single deck Alstom units) ? What it means is that lower cost alternative modes are coming to the fore. There's the bus boys and now EZY starting flights Southend-CDG later this year which seeks to capture those living to the East of the capital (some of whom might previously have used the Dartford Crossing to access Ebbsfleet).

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think, if you book far enough in advance, you can get something close to a reasonable price in std.
      I reckon down your way, a rail/sail from Harwich might do the job. I'm hoping to go on that myself later in the year.
      But yes, both cost and convenience are all part of our travel choices, for sure.
      Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

    • @alexmcwhirter6611
      @alexmcwhirter6611 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyHooverTravels I agree. Customers must book well ahead to find a reasonable fare. Even two weeks from today (Tuesday) the lowest LON-PAR standard class *one-way* price varies between £109 and £218. Yes rail-saii is a great offer and regularly promoted by Mark Smith ! With Eurostar my grumble is that it hasn't moved with the times since 1994. I mean just look at how short-haul aviation has changed over the past 30 years. So Eurostar ought to have a couple of Ouigo services (in addition to its core brand) but this is unlikely to happen while it holds a monopoly.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexmcwhirter6611 actually I don't want to sound like brexit is the cause of all our problems... but... the departure process and the physical departure area at StP would not be able to handle a Ouigo-type tightly packed train. It would mean just too many people. But I agree Eurostar would be much improved with an "easyJet" type of option.

    • @alexmcwhirter6611
      @alexmcwhirter6611 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyHooverTravels I agree. I was thinking in terms of when Ouigo originally launched in France. It emulated budget airlines by operating from out of town of stations. So it could operate from Ebbsfleet but then of course there would be customs/security/immigration and so who would pay the expense ? If E* were to restart service from its two Kent stations then it would take some pressure off St P. (But I realise E* only wants to concentrate on core services at the present time)

    I heard something somewhere claiming if you have a reusable cup and order a hot drink they'll reduce the price by 50p.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Worth a try i suppose! If you have a reusable cup, then it would be good to use it to save the waste even if there isn't a discount.

    Beautiful and fast journey from Paris to London.
    I would also like to go everywhere but my English is weak and I don't know how to find connections and relatively cheap tickets. I have a daughter in Holland in Tilburg, who gave birth to twins half a year ago, whom I have not seen yet and I do not know how to get to her by train.. 😔

      Thanks for the kind supportive words for both me and Cryz Cryz 👍
      Cryz, there is a well respected guy called Andy Brabin who has a service where, for a very reasonable fee, he can sort out all your travel booking. In fact, I bet he could save you more money than he charges!
      You can find him at www.discoverbyrail.com. You can contact him from the website.

      I didn't until another commenter talked about the possibility of a Ouigo-like competitor. I do think that if the lines have capacity for some really high density trains to come in with lowcost fares, then one problem might be St Pancras. Then you might consider running passengers in/out of Ashford or Ebbsfleet cos then there might be room for customs/border control. But short term, no.
