Great cook and fire management video. That’s how I do my fire but use more lump charcoal for more heat as I always try and cook at a higher temperature hot & fast!!
I have been thinking of a used Pit like this I discovered on Craig’s list. However it’s not in as good of condition as yours. I have one of P&S pellet grills and it works great but they make such quality cookers I got the itch watching your video. Thanks !
I would look for any good quality used smoker. Mine looked pretty rough when I first got it. I had to knock the rust off the fire box and oil it. I’d say go for it if it’s a good price. Pellet smokers are great for convenience but there is nothing like cooking on an offset and playing with a fire. Gotta have both :)
Great video! How do you like the pitts and spitts smoker? There's one that I was looking at buying. It's an older one like yours. Does it leak a lot of smoke? How do you like operating it?
I think it depends on what style of smoking you want to do. I’ve had charcoal smokers and gravity fed smokers before but I prefer the flavor an offset smoker produces. It seems like a pretty even trade as long as the offset is in good shape and you don’t mind tending a live fire. I add a split of wood every 45 minutes to an hour.
I'm looking at a used one of these smokers I found on the marketplace. Do you know how much this model weighs? The smoker is about 3hrs away from me. The owner does not know much about the smoker. Let me know if you can. Thanks
I’m guessing it weights between 450-600lbs. Maybe more. I rented a drop deck trailer and rolled it on. The trailer usually is used for fork lifts but worked great for this application. I rented it from sunbelt rentals. Good luck!
@@googanbbq awesome, thanks for quick reply! I have a trailer with ramp I use for side-by-side. Wasn't sure if we could muscle it in the back of my truck, but sound like trailer is def the way to go.
It came with my smoker when I bought it however I have been thinking about upgrading to a “V” style grate for the firebox so all the coals get concentrated at the bottom of the v.
It’s doesn’t leak very much around the edges on the sides. I have gasket on the front and it seals very well. The only discoloration on the stainless is on the side next to the sear station because of the grease it but wipes clean.
@@googanbbq sounds good, does it have tuning plated under the cooking grates? I found one of these local used for sale and thinking about grabbing it...is it super heavy? alot of pits this size are around 500lbs but I think I saw some specs that said the firebox is 1/4 steel but cook chamber is 3/16 which might put it around 400 lbs
It doesn’t have a tuning plate. I’m not sure about it’s exact weight but I would guess 400-500lbs. It does roll very easily so if you have access to a utility trailer with a ramp, it should be fairly easy to load. I do really like it overall and if you get it for a good price, I’m sure you will like it as well. Good luck man!
I love cookin in the rain. Great fire management. Appreciate the tips. 👊

I have been offered a pits and spitts ultimate upright for my humphreys battle box, and thoughts on this?

@LouisFarraconn yes, if you have a trailer, that would be the way to go.
Where did you buy your grate for firebox? I need one. Thanks

On this offset, how often and how much wood would you say you are adding to hold smoking temp of 250 - 275?
It depends on the weather and outside temperature but on average, I add 1-2 splits at a time, every 45 minutes to 1 hour.
what lengths are your splits?
About 12-18 inches
does this smoker leak around the pit chamber door? has the stainless discolored at all?
