Great series! I love the way you explain things, just enough detail without getting overly complicated. I'm planning to build an 8x12 shed this summer, so your timing is excellent. Looking forward to the next episode!

Awesome, thanks for the feedback! I will also pull all these individual build videos into one start-to-finish video in the coming weeks for this specific 8x12 shed. It will have a .pdf plan you can purchase, 1-click to Home Depot for materials, and trying to pull together a forum or some way for homeowners who are building the same shed to share their questions and feedback.

Great tutorial. You're a great teacher. Question: As you get higher on the roof, I noticed you use the 2x4 for footing. How many nails do you secure this 2x4 with? And don't the nail holes compromise the integrity of the shingles? How do you repair these nail holes afterward?

Yes, this is not a good practice per say... if you do use that step board, you will need to seal it properly,... but i will do a video on that very topic. Thanks for watching.

@@EverydayShed heya great video!! Id also love to see a video for that. Maybe like a "roofing safety tips" video to cover various tips like that 2x4.

Architectural are definitely easier to install, because if your first course is straight you can use the double layering shingles to align the next row. They are also more flexible with staggering options. You also get a better look, warranty, and wind tolerance typically. 3-tabs are cheaper though.
Overall, great video! Only other thing I'd do differently is precut the shingle width instead of letting them hang off.

Fair point! I do like the architecture looks way better. But, for being a shed, many people would go the 3 tab route. Thanks for the comments !!!

I've enjoyed this video series, but I don't see a video for the shed doors. Is there one available for that step?

Should be out in the next 2 weeks in addition to the complete start to finish video 👍

Nice work! Do you really need a starter strip on the ends of the roof. I’ve not seen this done. R

You should be okay leaving off the Rake edge and just on the Eave edge. You can also reference the manufacturers recommendation for the specific shingles you are going with for the roof.
