We used to get Herons in our garden too (we also had a small pond) and our dog would chase them away so much that all we had to do was say heron and he would absolutely sprint down the stairs squealing and yelping, super excited to chase it away. Usually (especially in spring/summer) we would leave the back door open so he would run straight out, but during winter the door was closed. The poor puppy ran straight into the door
