Universal Studios Mardi Gras Staycation Day 2! | Breakfast at Portofino Bay & Mardi Gras Opening Day

- Today's vlog is day 2 of our Universal Orlando Portofino Bay Resort staycation and it's also the opening day of Mardi Gras 2021! We start the day with breakfast in the room and then we head over to Universal Studios. We take the garden walk over to the park and it's beautiful. Then we head in and celebrate Mardi Gras! There were floats, performers & food booths all around the park! It was awesome! We bought the Annual Passholder food sampler lanyard and we got 15 samples for $65 plus tax. We tried food from New Orleans, Trinidad & Tobago, Italy, Canada & Germany. We had so much delicious food and the portions were pretty good too! We really like the way Universal has adapted to the current situation, the performer interactions and the way they're displaying the floats and giving out beads is great! Tip for y’all: you can use the owlet base station off WiFi. You won’t be able to view the readings on the app and you have to turn it on by tapping the base station but it will still alarm for low readings even off WiFi. This is a safety feature for even when you’re at home in case the internet goes out. We have taken ours to hotels when traveling before with no issues. Cheers!

Yes! I take mine on trips with me. I haven’t went anywhere with the new baby (because you know, 2020 🤷🏼♀️) but I think I did connect it to hotel WiFi with my son a few years ago.
The fact that Jackson gave a little "ye :D" after being asked about his toast just warms my heart to no end.

I would love to see you all do staycations at more moderately priced resorts such as pop century! It would help us see how a room that size would work with kiddos!
I like how Universal puts out tables for food places. Unlike at Epcot where there are hardly any tables for food festivals.

I love your videos, and Jackson is adorable! As a long time New Orleans resident I can tell you that the pirate featured at the tribute store is Jean Lafitte, pronounced ( La Feet ).
He and his brother are figures of great historical importance in New Orleans and both spent a lot of time there.
I was coming here to help Tim pronounce Lafitte since I grew up just north of the City of Lafitte! Haha

Those candles are from Magic Candle Company, they make candles with scents from WDW too! They have an online shop with all the scents in candles and air fresheners. The Banshee Flight one is fantastic!

Banshee Flight is my absolute favourite, but Polynesian and Flying over Orange Groves are close seconds.
I agree with Tim, it’s very cool that the floats are stationary this year and you can see all of the details up close.
It's amazing seeing how versatile the space where the tribute store is. I love seeing the progression of the same layout from Halloween to Christmas to Mardi Gras.

My grandson is now 3 1/2, so when I watch Jackson at 14 months, it takes me back to when Teddy was Jackson's age which is so special. Jackso is sooooo cute and so smart! Thank you, Jenn and Tim for sharing your adventures!

The exterior of Portofino Bay reminds me so much of the hotel at Tokyo DisneySea, which makes sense since that too is themed after Portofino.
I thought Jenn had a hair in her eggs but at a closer observation it was one of my mustache whiskers on my phone screen.. ALL IS CALM!
Steven Spielberg , who was considered to be one of the main “architects” of the entire Universal Orlando Resort, was a consultant and recommended the design of the hotel to be inspired by the classic feel of Portofino, Italy.

Love all your theme park videos. I'm 74, a theme park fan since 1973, and am now homebound. Your videos let me enjoy the parks vicariously and Jackson's reactions to everything make the videos extra special! Historical correction, though. The pirate associated with New Orleans is Jean Lafitte (La-feet). Lafayette is the French military officer who helped the Americans during the American Revolution. I'm an ex-history teacher...can you tell?!

Sending this from Trinidad 🇹🇹 ! We were super excited to see you both try the Trini food! The pineapple chow you tried was served very differently than how we make it here! We don't ever grill the pineapple! We cut it up into smaller cubes and season them with salt, black pepper, garlic, hot pepper , lime and Shadon Benny ( which is a larger , stronger version of cilantro ) . Usually chow is EXTREMELY spicy but we love it and turn almost every fruit or veggie into chow like cucumbers, mangoes, apples, star fruit , tangerines and plums! This actually made me wanna try grilling the pineapple next time! Cant wait to see you try more food from the other vendors!

As a Louisianan born and raised (I just feel like I should say that LOL) that gumbo looked much better than the gumbo at Busch gardens.

The photo in the room is Portofino Italy . The hotel is a great replica because that’s what it really looks like . It is about 80 miles north east of Milano on the Ligurian peninsula up by Genoa . It it considered a hot spot for movie stars ( Italian ) . It is beautiful! Glad you and Jenn are having fun at MardivGras . You guys have kept me going through this pandemic. Be well and stay safe . Hiii!!!!! so glad to see you guys try the trini food fellow trini here !!! traditionally “chow” is mango with wiri pepper and salt. And pholaurie is pronounced like Poe-lori. and traditionally it’s made with chickpea flour and tumeric and cumin but it can vary :-) the sauce is also usually very spicy and sweet. You guys rock !!!
So the french tells you that it's the "garden of sailors lost at sea" and the local candle company is Magic Candle Company. They make candles, wax melts, and a ton of other stuff with scents from Disney and Universal. I absolutely recommend their products. They smell amazing.

For the owlet, we bring ours to hotels and itll connect to the hotel wifi, or you can use it off wifi and wont be able to see the numbers but it will still alarm. I also figured out when we had a power outage since the plug is a usb, I could plug it into my fully charged laptop and could use it all night as well!

Owlet sock user over here too! I do think that it can work without WiFi. So you won’t be able to read stats or get alarm notification on your phone without WiFi, but the base would still sound off if baby was in distress. Just thought I’d pass along because I remember that stage and how important the owlet was to us! Love your videos 🥰

Hi guys! Ive been watching yall for a while and I love how informative your videos are and seeing you experience the park with your little one as opposed to it being you both! Im from trinidad and tobago! So glad u got to taste our food and its jackson approved! Both those things are super cheap and def overpriced and a little exaggerated in terms of presentation… but i really appreciate you trying it… Really made my day! Also i hope you can try some more authentic looking ones in future.
