He needs to sack up and get the stick shift record back! Probably cure some of the bad juju Ruby and the others are having. Leroy TTF!
@@wesw9586 to get the record back he'd have to go a whole second faster than Leroy has ever gone, which just isn't realistic. He'd need a new undamaged chassis, for a start, along with a lot of weight reduction, starting with a billet aluminium engine block to replace the cast iron one that has powered it into the high 7.7s. He'd also need a fair bit of bodywork to reduce drag.
He needs a stick car that’s built for just stick, Leroy runs two classes and is limited. His first time running in the stick multiple of the others was only running that class like the red demon.

@@mk-jf1ux I've known Brent for close to a decade man. I've seen him blow a lot of motors that shouldn't have blown. He's an incredibly hit or miss tuner. When he's on, he's an incredible tuner, when he's not... your motor is going to turn to scrap. He just lacks consistency

I've run cars including an alcohol dragster and it's super easy to miss something even with a routine. Kind of a miracle when every last detail is in perfect shape. Congrats guys, you're killing it again and having a great time. Thanks for taking us along!
Funny story:
On my street there is a dumpster that is legit number 1320 (stamped into it) and it is exactly a quarter mile from the intersection in a straight line 🦅. The thing is, I live in Europe and we measure in meters/km. Drag life knows no borders :)

He means keeping the stick shift record. He wants to keep the car were it is since its reliable and can bust off a 7.
Nah that newish motor they got could run bottom 7's turned up. They are not pushing Leroy too too hard. By the end of the week I imagine they will have it cranked up and be running 7.80-7.70s if they can put the power down.

I'd say that if the turbsky is passing oil by the seals from too high of oil pressure, you should increase the size of the return line. Not restricting the flow to unit. As hard as you guys run Ruby, You wanna keep as much oil as possible flowing to keep that thing happy.

A lot of people run restrictors without issue. Even with a -16 return line the oil pressure may be too much and a restrictor may still be needed.
Not quit the case for ball-bearing turbskys, the bearings don´t restrict the oil flow that much, so more oil is flowing if not restrict otherwise.
So it can cause a slight back pressure behind the seals. (they don´t take much)
Ball-bearings even don´t like to be flooded with oil, just a little trickle ones and a while.
Most ball-bearing turbos even have a hollow schaft betwen the bearings that is open to the returne on the top, so no pressure is applyed.

@@jacobb6774 It would be, but Race Week isn't the place to go for that kind of thing. Plus there are a LOT of cars that over took him after they held that title. Granted, nobody can ever take it away from them, that at one point they were the Fastest Stick GM (pause) in the world. But they have a lot of competition now especially with all the guys running the slipper clutches. It isn't quite like it used to be when it was good old fashioned clutch.

Every 10th you shave off the next one becomes exponentially harder to get. You have to set out specifically to do so, it's not going to just happen organically at a competition.

is what you don't see in the video is that its is a really nice park and the town just south of this one has the old ww2 air port and it also has a jet to as well. There is a zoo there as well and steam train to.

Good job on posting these videos while so busy. The in car footage on that 8.07 is awesome. That is a lot of steering to keep a straight line!
Ruby's turbo might've went dry on the trailer ride up and damaged a seal. If you watch the unloading clip it sounded crunchy and was not spinning on idle, although that might've been the rpms matching the camera shutter.
@@ZREXER1250 On a journal bearing yes, a ball bearing could take that small amount of spinning for hundreds of hours, but a good point indeed. Although the seal plate piston ring should be able to take that, it must have had excessive wear before. Of course I'd know more if I could get my hands on it lol

The weight of the water helped get traction off the line, then when emptied onto the track, it was lighter for top speed! Good thinking Brent! I always thought of a giant valve to dump a tank of water after the launch for street racing. Ballast eliminator!

I really enjoy james's explanations of parts going on the cars/methods and tricks to figuring out issues/etc. He can teach a baby how to build a motor and I'm an information junkie. If possible I'd like to see more of that mixed in with videos!
I hate watching sports and the only way I can enjoy these races is seeing what these guys do and why and how they do it. For work and fun, I build or fix things with my hands and am a problem solver. This channel makes me feel like I am there in the shop or at the track with them and I actually get excited to see the results of their work, of course it isn't about made up drama like what is on TV.......even the engineering/building shows are full of drama and lack the details that youtubers are able to show.
Wow, cleet doing some hella driving each drag so far. These tricky tracks bring out the good drivers and hella awesome to see you steer and drive Leroy down the track! And hate to see ruby struggling so far....

I noticed Kevin doesn't get too hung up on the state of the truck, he just drives. Yes, he let off when things happen, but he doesn't tinker with how he is launching or trying to judge if he should shift early or late - he just has a cycle he is trying to follow. I think he understand very well what the equipment is able to do, and he's just trying to be methodical and get that performance out of it, using his own consistent approach.
The man is a scientist.
