  • What to do when your Yamaha outboard alarm going off and cuts the engine to half power is first replace the oil reservoir filter. After the replacement and you cut the ignition switch on it will start pumping oil to the motor mounted reservoir. If this doesn't work check your pump on the reservoir. Thank you. We were on the lake last night with our Yamaha VMAX 150 and an alarm started going off and the power to the engine dropped. Googled two stroke boat alarm and this video popped up. We had spare oil on the boat and used it to add to the small tank at the engine and were able to get back to our slip.

    Thank you for the information!! You saved me allot of work by knowing what I needed to remove (the 10MM bolt & containing bracket), then the filter. You made a hard job easy, even giving the parts numbers! Thanks LOADS!! Bob

    Thank you. This helped me out. In addition to this I found that my supply hose (discharge the pump) was slightly pinched on a bolt just past where all the wires/tubes enter the engine. After unpinching I think I bought some time until the filter arrives. I luckily was able to fill the reservoir twice to finish the boat trip.

    After changing your oil filter/strainer, add a filter to the fill port in the reserve tank, one is easy made from a strainer, and add a coffee filter in it, replace coffee filter as needed, even paint strainers work, yes it takes more time filling the oil tank, but no trash. All oil bottles have a foil seal, that trash can end up in your oil!

    This was VERY helpful! Thank you! Unfortunately I am still getting the alarm when I run. Assuming that my oil level gauge assembly should be replaced or even the pump itself, but after reading some of the comments I think checking for any kinks in the line should come first. I don't think there are any other things that could be causing the alarm because it turns of within 1 minute of it turning on and restricting my throttle. Only thing wrong with the boat been trying to fix this a while without bringing it to a shop and getting slammed with a hefty bill that I could have done myself

      If the alarm is coming on because of low oil in the small reservoir and filling the small reservoir manual solves the problem work backwards. Line to main tank, oil pump failure on tank beside filter, filter is the cheap fix and line from filter to inside of the tank. It is plugged up somewhere along the way or the pump failed.

      I suggest hooking power directly to the pump motor that is on the side. You can use two small jumper wires. If the pump works the issue may be a clogged line. If not replace the pump motor.

    Aside from blowing my 150 Yamaha engine how can I tell if the engine is getting oil? It's a 1994 model (2 stroke) and my low oil alarm is going off but both reservoirs are full. I checked the remote oil pump and it's pumping oil up to the engine mounted reservoir. I'm not sure what to check next. I don't have the expertise to know if the engine is actually getting oil and maybe I have a sensor problem.

    • @ECUBountyHunter
      @ECUBountyHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That may be beyond my ability but if there is oil in the tank on the motor the problem is from that tank to the engine. You can premix to avoid engine damage until you resolve but it will not turn off the alarm. The alarm I am speaking to related to the low oil level alarm tied to the small tank on the motor. Consult your local mechanic.

    • @ECUBountyHunter

      You can use the lower tank oil in the upper tank. The motor on the lower tank pumps to the upper tank. When the upper tank gets low the alarm will go off. Filling the upper tank manually with temporarily solve for the alarm. I bought my filter from my local dealer but you can get them on Amazon or eBay also.

    • @ECUBountyHunter

      My motor has never gone out but try the filter first. Change the filter, draw down the tank on the motor to a lower level and turn on your key. It should start pumping oil to the motor oil tank. If not hook two jumper wires to the tank pump and see if it will run. If not you need to replace the motor.

  • @terryfonz4603
    @terryfonz4603 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Give the whole story! If you fill the tank on the motor you need to line up the arrows when you reinstall that cap that pops off that’s important. There’s a bitch but there’s some arrows to line up from the cover to the cap.
    Then it’s not always the filter. Those pump motors go out also as I’ve learned last year changed the filter this year it was the pump.
    Also there’s a switch to manually fill the onboard reservoir if the pump is working.

    • @ECUBountyHunter
      @ECUBountyHunter  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the switches on the back of the motor activates the pump and they fill then your pumps are good and filter not clogged. Check the floats that activate the switches. I have sold my motor and cannot look and reference it. It has to be what activates the switches has gone bad or is stuck.

      815100 was my number. If you unbolt the tank, the number is printed on the pump motor. The filter is under $20 the pump is closer to $150. You can use a pair of jumper wires when you disconnect the pump wires and run it direct to test the motor.
