    This VLOG has been months in the making as we have shared Devel's journey from start up brand to a brand that not only makes great bikes but designs elements for big name brands.
    Along the way I've been shown some really interesting insight into the way the bike industry works behind the scenes and this is something I wanted to share with you. Much of this information is first hand, and whilst many of you may not be surprised, it certainly changed my opinions on a few things.
    Obviously I will go into more details on the bike itself once we are able to move around with more freedom, but for now it's studio pictures.

    Thanks Chris for an honest, open and raw review. Very refreshing indeed. Yes I happen to ride an S-Works Tarmac SL6 disc with Ultegra Di2 and I’m very satisfied (funny though that one of the bike shop owners I see from time to time jokingly said when I showed him a pic of my new SL 6 ‘oh you bought a Merida’ 😂). However, I’m also very open to alternatives and I’m impressed with the philosophy of DEVEL and their how do we say, ‘moral position’? I’m stoked I stumbled upon your website/channel all those months ago, I really enjoy hearing your commentary about cycling, without the BS.
    Look forward to more insights into the cycling manufacturing world and how your team is going.
    Take care down there in NSW and all the best 👍🤙🚴‍♂️

    Thanks Chris for such an honest piece, and blowing the lid on some of the urban myths around the bike industry of recent times. I am in a different industry and face some of the same issues of global integrated production and the over reliance on the weakest links in the supply chain, let alone debtors to run a business. Take care and look forward to more of your quality content. Also, looking forward to a review on your new vision rim brake wheels and how they ride around Akuna Bay. Cheers.

    Let’s no forget that two Taiwanese companies (Giant and Merida) make bikes for about dozen other huge brands. They have, understandingly, prioritised their own brands. Hence why Giant and Merida were able to supply the world with less of a lead time than others.

    • @hugoyoung4890
      @hugoyoung4890 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, integrated bars means the cables run through the bars. The frame has to be designed to have fully internal cables. It's not usually possible to make a have fully hidden cables unless the frame was made for that from the start.

    Thanks Chris, some interesting info,
    Just a couple of points;
    Bike companies bang on about the design and top carbon that gives all these benefits, stiffness, compliance and lightness, but from what you are saying, they even outsource the designs in most cases. When they claim to make them in house in their office in said country by engineers doing lots of testing to maximize the design, hmmm 🤔.
    Then from these companies claiming all this tech and performance, we get bikes leaving the factory with sub standard specifications, i.e. BB out of round and under size and layups that have voids weaking the construction. Reference; hambini and Luescher Teknik.
    It is pretty disappointing to hear, not even the design and testing is now done by the big names. 🤔

      Hey Greg, thanks for the comment. Just to clarify the pre release Devel A01 that I videos this time last year (the one with the custom ECC paint job) was designed and made in the Philippines.
      However the team black frames were all designed in the Philippines, but made in China.
      I thought I made that clear in both the team announcement and long term review vlogs, so I’m not sure where you were getting a different narrative from.
      I have seen some comments under the videos from proud Philippine people declaring it is a Philippines brand … but certainly nothing to suggesting it’s manufacturing is anywhere but China.

With an investment of around €30 million, the aim is for this to be operational in August 2022 with a workforce increased from 180 to 300.
      The second step of the strategy involves investing a further €10 million in the production of carbon frames.
