That's the thing I like about stuff like this and demos over albums. It's because they retain the kind of rawness that albums lose in the polishing of it.
Definitely agree with this and that is generally my preference as well. I think it ultimately does the music a disservice in the end to strip that away from it - especially with the extreme metal sub-genres. That isn't to say I don't enjoy the albums, I do very much, but I find I get more enjoyment out of these raw recordings with all of their flaws and their gritty nature. I feel more connected to it musically than with the cleaner more refined versions that are done on the albums. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!
This album in particular is still pretty fucking raw and unpolished as technical death metal goes, it would be nice to always have access to the demos in this form to get to hear other nuances of the recording that get overshadowed by the mixing and mastering etc
Completely wrong, so much clarity is lost on a demo and the intended vision of the composer is not realised. Remember these demos sound the way they do not out of intentionality but out of resource limitation. You desire an aesthetic, a trend, not an artistic vision.

Somehow this band gets the sound of demos and albums backwards, as in their demos sound better than the studio albums. This 1994 demo sounds better than _Here in After,_ and their 1989 demo sounds better than _Dawn of Possession._
I'm inclined to agree. As much as I like the albums, the sound on the demos is what I have preferred. A lot more sinister sounding and it suits the music more.
They wanted out of their contract with Roadrunner and then had no label and had to sort of start all over again. Eventually they got a deal with Metal Blade and got the opportunity to write and record Here in After.
