- The terrifying moment a family experienced Alaska’s powerful earthquake was caught on home surveillance video. It shows Tony Skilja grab his daughter Sophia, 4, and run out the front door barefoot, wearing only shorts and a t-shirt in the snow. His wife, Jennifer, quickly joins them for an embrace as they wait for the tremors to stop. The family was relaxing at home when that 7.0 earthquake hit. Grabbing the child is literally what every parent would do.
You will be surprised...I remember back in 2005, my little cousin/nephew was left outside while everyone including his parents ran inside the house from rebel's shootings in my home town in africa lol...many just ran and forget everything coz first instance is to protect yourself first...P.S. I wasn't there and I was very little too back then to do anything

If I was even in a relationship or had children, I wouldn’t have to think twice about it. I also have emergency plans played out articulately in my head! So I might just be crazy or not logically thinking but that’s what I would do.

This is why I always leave plenty of water out for my pets when I’m at work. I live in the Pacific Northwest and if the cascadia fault goes and I’m not home I’m probably not getting home for days. And that’s if I live lol.

I was living in Anchorage, Alaska when this earthquake happened. I will always remember how goodness really showed through everyone that day. Stores were crowded with people trying to get water and other supplies, but no one was panicking or shoving their way to the front of lines. Everyone waited patiently. On the way home, lots of traffic lights had lost power and police weren't stationed at every intersection so we had to go a couple of cars at a time through some big intersections. Through all of that, I don't remember people cutting each other off or speeding. There was a feeling of mutual respect and understanding felt that day that I continued to feel for weeks after that happened. Very strong sense of community.

As somebody who lived on the San Andre’s fault in California, they taught us in schools to go under tables/desks and put our hands behind our necks. Probably safer than running outside Incase anything falls on you on the way out.

@LiontheGreatest yes the ground cracks open and it moves. I was in this earthquake and that was one of my biggest fears but i also didnt want to be inside my apartment incase it collapsed. The 1964 Great Alaska earthquake, if you read about it, there was a man who went to grab his daughters to get them out if the house. They were sitting on the floor playing. Right before he got to them,the ground opened up and they fell in and the ground closed again. I cant remember if it was one or 2 of his kids but it was right in front of him. Absolutely terrible
