Enjoy your videos Lou. I have a "survivor" '74 B-5 Blue Duster 360 with 43,000 original miles, original paint, and Cragar wheels mounted on BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.. Was my car in my college days, and my wife and I were married in the car in 1984. By 1973 the smog regulations had taken some of the bite out of the 340 Duster. Plymouth installed the 360 in 1974 to bring back some of the HP, until the model's demise in 1976. Again, thanks for your You Tube videos. I watch 'em all.
You have quite the story there Ron G with your Duster :-) My pleasure sharing with you. Please make sure to not skip the commercials (unless it's too long) on the front of the video as that's how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you. You're welcome.
This Duster is definitely ready to rumble! It's also a great inspiration to add an extra space in the garage because you never know what will show up. What a great car Mr. Tantillo has. Thanks, Lou!

I got my licence in '74 when these cars were just 'used cars' and were a dime a dozen. Even my friends who knew nothing about cars had muscle cars. One friend had a '70 4-speed 340 duster in B5 blue with no options except an AM radio. I remember it had a much heavier clutch than my '70 383 Super Bee and was a handful without power anything, but that car could scoot. I liked driving my Bee much better, but I had (and have) a deep respect for the Mopar 340. The Duster looked so much better in '71 with the updated grill too, and you can't miss this car driving down the street with that Curious Yellow paint! I love when I discover new things about cars, and the foot pump for the windshield washer is something I never knew. Cool video Lou!!
¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!
Absolutely fabulous a "muscle car killer" '71 Duster 340! It's very rare to see a car in original look like this one. Thank you kindly for this My Car Story, Lou👌

Those 340 Dusters were highly respected where I live because they were such great performers. 2 of my brothers and I had won the bid to do a property cleanup for a bank on a foreclosed property and there were 27 cars, 2 pickups, a van, 9 heavy trucks, a semi trailer, an antique farm tractor, a few motorcycles and snowmobiles, old trailer houses, old rotted lumber and literally TONS AND TONS of scrap metal and garbage. Others who had looked at the job didn't even bid because it would take so much time and so many trips to haul everything out. We found a few keepers hidden amongst the vehicles though, including a 36k original mile 72 Dodge Charger Ralley 340 4 SPD, 61 Ford Starliner with a 406, and a 71 Duster 340 Automatic. That Duster 340 was INSANELY quick for a car that had only cost us $15 plus title fees as the bank provided documents so we could get it registered and we had a lot of fun with it. Unfortunately it was sold and got totalled out, but we got the 340, transmission and sure grip rear end from it really cheap after the accident. That property cleanup job was the most profitable we ever had even if it did take us the entire time from early spring until late fall to complete. Only a few of the regular vehicles, and 2 heavy trucks were scrapped. Most others we sold off as repairables and a few as parts cars but we kept a couple..
Beautiful Duster Lou. Always loved the A body mopars. They don't get as much attention as they deserve. Personally I like that body style of the Duster better than my 73.
There's one characteristic by Mopar is that they had some unique paint colors, from "Curious Yellow", to "Plum Crazy (Purple)"! That Plymouth Duster 340 is striking with that paint job, and the 340 engine sounded healthy. It also is one of the last true muscle cars. I like the rally instrument cluster it happened to be equipped with. These were a popular car back in that era. A decent muscle car on a budget.
I live in beautiful sunny Florida, and happen to be an auto archaeologist. I really like this 1971 Plymouth Duster 340, including the Curious Yellow color with black interior, and I also like the factory options that this car has on it. I can tell you that the Chrysler or Mopar nationals will dock you points for not having the correct dual exhaust tips, and the Goodyear Polyglas GT E60-15 Oval tires on the car. I would really like to purchase this car from Mr. Tantillo.
Those were real sleepers. Probably 80% of Dusters (I'm guessing) had the slant 6. The 340 heads had near perfect breathing and were astoundingly fast for what they were. As you found out!!
I loved this dash compared to the newer dash offered after. At age 16 this is the first car I went well over 100MPH in the 4 Spd Duster 340 in Blue with white stripes as a passenger. My Best Friend Bob in High School scaring the crap out of me here in NE on winding roads manually shifting and me thinking I love the sound it makes but didn’t want to die that day. He was a MOPAR man, and I loved it all. I never looked at the duster as a compact car. To me it was mid sized. compared to Maverick, and Nova, at the time. Chrysler had the market with it’s Valiant and Dart, Duster, and Demons were everywhere even 15 years later. Another Friend in High school drove a older Duster in really tough shape but ran like a top. He tried killing that car. He drove it holding the door closed. Looking back now, I don’t know how it was allowed on the road. Good Stuff Lou.
Neat unmolested Duster (rare feat), cool color. Mark has plenty of years to enjoy that Duster. My parents had a 72 Gold Duster with slant 6. I inherited it at 17 with 185,000 on odo. I had it to 215,000 miles. It had a plastic headliner that was fairly brown from my parents smoking. First order of business was cleaning that. I came into the house and my mom said what happened to your face? I said you and dad did that, smoke residue from the ceiling in car. 2nd order was stained glass decal of a rainbow on back window, long before claimed by gay community. I still have the keys/Plymouth fob and Duster emblem, off back, after junking. Great job as always Lou!
Good day Lou, Great video & a Duster 340 always gets respect. Great video & definitely a beautiful smack you in the face colour. Cheers Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Australia, Melbourne. ❤ 🇺🇸 🇦🇺
When the 340 engine was announced, I was not impressed. I wondered why Chrysler, which was known for its big-block engines, would bother with a supposedly "hot" little engine that only had 275 BHP. Not much time was required for me to see what Chrysler was up to. The "A" body 340 cars from Chrysler were some of the best junior muscle cars around. They were well designed and affordable. A competent tuner could turn them into formidable opponents for 1/4 mile competition. 340 "A" body cars also handled well for the time. This is a very nice example of the type. Thanks to you and the owner for this video.

We had a customer who had one of these and it was equipped wit a 4-speed. The customer was a doctor and from Canada. Sadly the car had turned into a rust bicket from spending it's life in snow country where they salted the roads. The engine wouldn't hold water but the customer didn't want to go any further. Being that this car has a 340 4-Bbl., and an automatic, it probably has the bigger 727 Torqueflite.
1971 Plymouth Duster 340. The Plymouth Duster would be introduced for the 1970 model year, lasting seven model years until 1977. It was introduced as the high-performance variant of the 1970-1977 Plymouth Valiant Sedan/Coupe. According to it's name obviously, it has a 340 Cubic Inch (5.6 Litre V8, NOT 5.7 Litres) V8 that would produce 275 Gross HP and around 350-370 LB-FT of Torque.
I like this one. I am a Ford guy, I have bought Fords and Mercurys most of my life, but Plymouth and Chrysler are my alternative cars when Ford isn't making a car I like. The Duster was a sports version of the Valient line. Ford had the Falcon and Mercury Comet as the competitor of the Valient in the compact car market. The Falcon line was canceled and replaced with the Maverick in 1970, which was a step down from the Falcon. Comet was then a very similar Mercury counterpart to the Maverick. Had I been in the market for a sporty compact car in 1971, my choice would have been the Plymouth Duster over the Maverick Grabber and Valient over Maverick/ Comet. But then again, in 1971, I would have been more interested in Mustangs, and the alternative would have been a Barracuda if it came down to financing and affordability. One thing, on your comments on the car that wasn't a tornado, it was a Dust devil. Like a tornado, a dust devil is a vortex, but it is not a cloud. It is dust from the ground that gets caught in turbulent wind currents. Dust devils are common on windy days in parking lots next to buildings. They look a little, scary because they are a vortex, and they pick up the fine sand and gravel particles and light debris such as paper, candy wrappers or cigarette butter that may litter the ground. But a dust devil is far from being a tornado and nowhere as near as distructive. So yeah, it's a dust devil on a Plymouth Duster. If it were a tornado, it would be on an Oldsmobile.😊
"Not much respect"? I beg to differ. Maybe he hasn't been involved in A-Body Mopars very long or was too young back in the day, but every one knew the A-Body Mopars could be giant killers on the street. Many a big-block got a surprise from these cars, especially street racing from stoplight to stop light. I had a '70 SS Chevelle and I found out the hard way! Lol
curious Yellow. so neat and new. restored dash, or no one ever put a Kenwood or Pioneer in there. just the extravagant AM they came with. ancient beetles sprayed their own window juice. neato. an objectionable individual, Danny Pesh had an orange one. not four speed. two barrel and glass pack, to sound important
If these cars looked as good coming off the assembly line as this one does now, they might still be on the road. Back in this era Chrysler had by far the worst build quality of any vehicle. It’s really a shame too, because the cars were really cool. Chrysler built (arguably) their best looking vehicles between 1966-1971.

That is fine Plymouth Duster that Mark owns. The 340 cu. in. engine was quick due to the relative short piston stroke of 3.312 inches. The piston stroke of my Pentastar V6 in my ’12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible is similar at 3.27 inches. That makes for an engine that revs up quickly.

Hi Daniel, Happy to read "I like this one" :-) Lou

"Not much respect"? I beg to differ.
Maybe he hasn't been involved in A-Body Mopars very long or was too young back in the day, but every one knew the A-Body Mopars could be giant killers on the street.
Many a big-block got a surprise from these cars, especially street racing from stoplight to stop light.
I had a '70 SS Chevelle and I found out the hard way! Lol
Hi Notwaiting, I had a Ford and found out the hard way :-) Lou
curious Yellow. so neat and new. restored dash, or no one ever put a Kenwood or Pioneer in there. just the extravagant AM they came with. ancient beetles sprayed their own window juice. neato. an objectionable individual, Danny Pesh had an orange one. not four speed. two barrel and glass pack, to sound important
Hi Scott, Thanks for sharing. Lou
Hi Dave, You're right. This one looks showroom new, Lou
MoPar👍
:-)
Fast cars, these were. They'd pass everything but a gas station.
:-)
Yeah the duster is so cooler then 68 Chevelle. But not as gorgeous as a sixty-seven and sixty-eight barracuda

Hi Сергій Шамін, Happy to read you find this car interesting & simple :-) You're welcome, Lou
Al Bundy's "Dodge".
Good to know.
wrong color motor
Thanks for viewing and sharing what you notice.
Nice :-)
