I know right. Travis was chubby while Brakus, from the second film, was built like The Terminator! He was a huge muscle badass! I actually loved him a lot more than Travis, villain or not
the american team was also a bunch of black belts, but they never competed in a world tournament, because alex and tommy were national champs and the other guys were fighters of different leagues, the korean team was obvious that they had more experience in world tournaments meanwhile the american team was obvious that they never fought outside their country,
I took karate years ago. No one used the ridge hand because it was so hard to master. We broke boards with various kicks, hammer fists mostly & sometimes head butts. Our sensei would make use do ridge hand strikes if we messed up because he knew we hated it. He also did it because despite our disdain for it, we needed to be at least proficient in it. Karate & pretty much all fighting really are martial arts. Heavy emphasis on the arts. Great way to exercise, release tension & stress, lose weight, gain strength, & teach yourself self discipline. Wish I stuck with it.
I used the ridge-hand to chop down all of the trees in my back yard. Saved me a sh*t ton of money because I didn't have to hire a tree service. My hand was pretty f'd up afterwards.
Travis didn’t win but in part 2 was considered a American Karate champ. Then again the Koreans gave their medals to the Americans. They should to do a sequel with Tommy Alex Sonny Virgil and adult Walter. They can have a actor replace the original Virgil actor and Walter having a son that becomes Stephanie’s school and karate student. Yes by now Tommy’s daughter should be grown up as well
When I saw the blocks I said: Travis! Why you didn’t pay attention to the focus lessons of the blond coach ☺️🤭😂 but was a great effort breaking that number of blocks
Of course. In almost any Japanese or tactical martial art you train, a ridge hand is in the arsenal. Unless it's a sport at like mma or boxing/muy Thai.
I love this movie. I grew up with it. I watched it thousands of times but if this tournament is based on points, what's the point of the brick thing. It doesn,t have any sense
It´s absurd that Travis is number 3 in the order. The order is determined by weight but Travis must be a lot heavier than Tommy. I mean it´s clear that the main characters have the last fights, but there should be a different reason (maybe experience) for it and not weight class. Even Alex seems to be heavier than Tommy.
Likely he was chosen to have a mass advantage on his opponent so that every hit he landed did more damage. Remember, the coach paired them against specific fighters for reasons.
I don't think it was chosen by weight. I'm pretty sure both Alex and Travis outweighed Tommy if I remember correctly. I think they were matched up more by skill and credentials. Tommy obviously had the most skill and credentials out of all of them. He was the best of the best so to speak and Alex was the second best followed by Travis and then so on.
@JohnKreeseCobraKai84 You just might be the coolest guy in your secial ed class watching all these super cool ass kicking movies and hoping that one day you could be a megasupercool ninja with throwing stars and all that!
Ah my favourite character, loves getting booed he was a rascal 🤣 I never understood what he said to the guy to get booed? Was it really offensive? I can't make out what he says? RIP Chris, brilliant actor and so funny 😁 Loved watching him in Footloose too, his character was the most endearing to me ❤️
Rest in peace Chris Penn😥❤
"What are ya counting em for"? Haha
LMFAO!!!
Always loved that line
The best line😂😂
Came here for just that quote
Flash backs: Travis, meet Mr. Tan Sung Moon.
I love this movie. I also loved how everyone overlooked weight classes especially for his character

Good old 80’s jingoism, gotta love it
Definitely one of my favourite kick ass films growing up . Roadhouse was the best 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Roadhouse was awesome. Another great movie was called The Perfect Weapon. Jeff Speakman was a total bad ass in it.
@Chris Hastings ….. LOVE the perfect weapon!! When he takes on those three guys ( that one guy is also the guy Eric roberts fights in this movie)
Oh-HELL-YEAH***
Travis brickley was the best. The first movie was so much better than the others
Senzo Tanaka hey merhaba
Senzo Tanaka I agree
He was good, but I thought Brakus from the second film was much more awesome
Agreed Greek Pianist...
I love the second one as well
That smile from James Earl Jones was hilarious!
Travis behave yourself!!!
Kinda out of place.
That smile says "Goooood. Let the hate flow through you."
What a great character Chris Penn did...
hell yes he dit :)
Too bad he died in part II when he fought Brakus. Brakus broke Travis' neck and had his (Travis') body thrown in the nearby river.
This is the most 1980’s American movie ever!
These guys have been training all their life? Hold my beer while I train for 3 months… I’ve got this!

Looks like the narrator is also a karate expert. He knows what style by name is being used.
I miss movies like this!!

The ending aways made me cry. When he hopped across the stage
i'm starting to like that ridge hand strike.
it takes some huge training to break items that way .

YEAH OK
This movie had nice camera angles and choreography.
Fun Fact Chris Penn was a legit Black Belt.
These films are my school days movies but with a view to me this movie is still new

Every man should aspire to showing his sons friends, how many bricks you can break with your bare hand. Period
My favorite Penn brother

Only possible in the movies.

the ridge hand...why that's what my grandma used to slap me with bak in the day
👑 Eye of a Tiger. Queen of the fight. 🥊
One of the few times that they use the same slabs in the movie as TKD guys use in real life. So hard to break... ;-)

Korean traditional martial art fighting and breaking style, like using the Ridge hand.

The ridgehand technique is a very unorthodox. Especially in breaking competition. It takes a lot of focus and control. And a
You hit bricks like that you ain’t ever gonna be right.
If I tried a ridge hand like that, I'd break my elbow.
I would say "Hulk Smash!!!" and then give him the biggest uppercut and hook, and then just pound him to dust.

Karate Combat is still running, they have a fight on December 17th 2022. Really looking forward to it.
The Korean's way of breaking the bricks is like "Let's see how hard I can hit before my elbow snaps" .....
How embarrassing. His name is Travis "Brick"ly, and he couldn't win the brick competition.
