I felt that the interview with West was more realistic. Noticed a few misconceptions being perpetuated. So I respectfully I want to give my take on them.
Being trans is different from being gay. Trans people feel that they dont belong in their body. They identify as a different gender. Gay men accept their gender but are attracted to the same gender. To clarify, sex is biological and what you see externally or genetically. Gender refers to how a person identifies or sees themself - whether as a man or a woman. Being trans is not all about sexual or romantic attraction to the opposite sex. It just as much about satisfaction, or lack of it, with your own body.
Second, trans people are NOT celebrated by the punjabi community. At most, they are not openly abused. And that is out of fear because of the belief in a trans person's "curse". If you upset them, they can curse you with bad luck. Of course, punjab is diverse this could be different in some villages but ive found this to be the case in most places around punjab.

I remember my school friends brother was gay! His Punjabi parents from London were shell shocked and very disappointed! He brought his male partner home to introduce him to his parents! His gay partner was a white guy! They wished he would have brought a Punjabi man home instead..preferably a doctor or dentist!
