Not only his goals but he went from position to position every second season and gave it all to the team.I remember once Zidane was asked which player would he like to play with and why and his swift reply was Steven Gerrard and he said "He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that - players like him are just born with that presence"

@@romanbatista3286 Watch Gerrard vs Serginho in the 2005 CLF, Gerrard was switched to right back and owned Serginho, now tell me Zidane, Messi or Scholes could have done that. It's always Messi and Ronaldo and players like that that are called THE best because they have the glamour roles, but none of them could do what Gerrard can, yet Gerrard can do what they can. Just an opinion, it's all very debatable at the end of the day. But for me, he is up there with the best ever.
At some point between 2006 and 2009, Gerrard was THE best player in the world. Could have been all those years, but at least one of them surely

Gerrard is a legend, for me the greatest midfielder ever in the EPL. The guy had everything and could play almost anywhere. They dont make them like him anymore, absolute legend
I still remember every feeling that day. 10 years old, all alone in my room watching the Final on a little antenna box TV.
When he got the ball at his feet my heart would light up. And boy let me tell you how sensational it was when he banged in that half volley for 3-3... I shot up, celebrating, smacked my head on my bunk bed, was in tremendous pain but celebrating so much at the same time. I love Football...

I was almost 10 years old and I remember seeing this and thinking, ridiculous! How does he hit it so perfectly with such precision and power into the bottom corner whilst it bounces directly in front of him like that.

One of the only players that could grab a game by the scruff of the neck. When's the last time u saw a player do anything remotely close to what stevie did in Istanbul scoring the first goal to rally the troops when they were 3 goals behind and then the next year completly dominating west ham to win the FA cup 2006.. Istanbul made stevie a superstar but the 2006 FA cup final the year after made him a living legend

I was living in Ireland for the 2005-2006 season(I'm from Massachusetts in the US) anyway, it was absolutely madness for the final and I was so lucky that at the local pub they were all Liverpool supporters that worked the bar and so it was just magic to be in a packed pub full of Liverpool supporters!!! And what a game, a classic. Gerrard's third goal?!💥💥💥

I was 12 years old on holiday in turkey. It broke my heart but what a fantastic game and noone can argue with gerrard hes terrific. Respect to liverpool.
As an Arsenal fan, what a F player SG was! Was superb watching him for England and LFC. If you want to know the definition of a world class player just look up SG. It was sad seeing him retire but such is life. What a career he has had. Bravo SG bravo.

After all these years I’m still gutted about that final. ⚒️ It felt like it was meant to be ours. We scored 3 fairly fortunate goals and I was so sure it would be West Ham’s day. I’ve still not forgiven Gerrard, however, he was a great player.
Late 90s and the 2000s were the peak years of football. Still love it of course, but without a doubt it is slowly and surely losing it's soul.

Poor West Ham. They played so well, led twice. Etherington and Ashton both injury doubts before the game. Unfortunately for them, our name was on the cup that year!!
They did well to go two nil up but they blew it after that. In fairness Liverpool weren’t very good either. Gerrard and Reina were the difference.
