-in any Track event, press B when crossing the finish line to lunge. You may have seen computer controlled Peach or Daisy use this technique.
-after jumping in the Long Jump or Triple Jump, make a running motion with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk while your character is in the air to increase your distance. This won't work if you step over the line and get a foul so make sure you jump early!
-press A after releasing the hammer in the Hammer Throw event to make your character shout. This is required to clear Princess Peach's mission
-press B while swinging the Wii Remote to hit the ball in Table Tennis/Dream Table Tennis to perform a Smash

maybe it's because they're leaked
They were considered for Beijing 2008, but they were scrapped. Characters like Donkey Kong and Metal Sonic had models for the game that were scrapped during development. Vancouver 2010 was the improvement needed in order to have DK, Jr., Metal, and Silver to be in a more complete game.

In the real-life Olympic track and swimming events, there's a 'one-and-done' rule; if a runner/swimmer 'false starts', then he/she gets disqualified. If I were president of the International Olympic Committee, I'd order both Nintendo and Sega to change the rules for track and swimming events so that if a Mario or Sonic character 'false starts', then then that character gets disqualified.
I hate to say to this but I will have to disagree. Even if it’s a false start it’s still fair and important for every athlete to get a chance to participate so no one feels left out.
Remember one of the swimming events back at the the Sydney Olympics in 2000? After the rest of the competitors got DQ'd (including a pair of swimmers simultaneously getting disqualified), the only one left did the race all by himself; it was as if his opponents never showed up.
