  • This video shows you how to remove the 3 functions of high beam, low beam, and strobe from your cree u5 lights. It is more like a modification as you can still use the 3 functions if needed.
    Thanks for watching.

    I just tried it with my two lamps, simply soldered a 10k resistor across the C4 capacitor as recommended and hey presto!! works a treat on high beam unless switched in under a second. Thanks.

    Great piece of advice. I had two cheap Cree lights with a C4 on the circuit boards. They were annoying, not only because they had an unwanted and pointless strobe function, but they kept going out of sync with each other. Two micro 10k ohm (0.25W) resistors soldered between the C4 capacitors on both has fixed the problem, so thanks a lot! The only thing I would say is that there seems to be more than a one-second delay between switchings in my case (more like 2-3 seconds), but that's probably a function of how accurate the resistor set is, I guess. Thanks very much, again!

    • @ebay111978
      @ebay111978  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pat Ward yes I have noticed the delay is different for different lights. Either resistor accuracy or different components on the board.

    OK, I've just done this to my U5 cree spotlights, didn't have a c4 capacitor, but instead a c2 and c3, the c2 being bigger and closer to the u1 chip, soldered a 10k 1/2 watt resistor to it and voilà, only high beam when I turn bike on, but if I switch it off and on within 1 sec I can get low beam or strobe, but the bike always starts in high beam and no out of sync issues.

    As I had no 10k resistor, I tried with a 5k but it didn't work. UN-soldering it, I UN-soldered the capacitor too... and lost it... Strangely (as I read all comments), the light works fine. But, even if I'm not sure, I think it's working in low beam.

    • @ebay111978
      @ebay111978  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I do not know the capacitor value. And it is strange that it would still be working. Once I removed capacitor on my light; they would not work. They need a capacitor in place to work - it actually is a connector from one side to the other. If there is no connection - the light should not power up

    • @ebay111978

      If you remove C4 the light won't work at all. You need to put a resistor on C4 to just get one mode. I used 10KOhm and it gives me about 1 sec interval between modes. So if I want multiple modes, I power cycle the light within less than 1 sec. Waiting longer than 1 sec gives me high mode all the time.

    • @ebay111978
      @ebay111978  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Holloway yes. you can test it by power cycling the light once. once off, place a small wire to short the capacitor closest to the U1 chip. you may need to hold the wire there for a couple of seconds. remove the wire and power on the light, if it powers on high mode then that's the capacitor you need to put the resistor on. putting the wire to test will not damage the light in any way.

      HI! You have to wait about 4 seconds between one ignition and another. Otherwise the circuit switches to the next mode. If not, check the resistor value, because with the tolerance, the 10k results from 9,80k which is too low. I used 15k and it works!

      To test what capacitor is storing the light state, power on light, power off, short 1 capacitor (c1, c2, or c3 in your case) with a piece of wire for about 2-5 secs. remove the wire and power on light, if you get the high bean again, then you need to place a resistor on that particular capacitor.
