- In this video, I'll share my story of sneaking into the Merdeka parade in Penang. Penang was among the many Cities celebrating Merdeka today.
Merdeka parade is one of the most famous events in Malaysia, and it's always rife with excitement. This year, the parade was extra special because it is the first after the covid lockdowns. As part of the celebration, the parade featured a Bomba, Police, Military and man more.

Waalaikumussalam. Nice parade! It's that in Penang? Been a long time since I watch any parade in person, but still I can remember the insane and hectic experience just to get the best spot to view the parade and tried not to leave it so no one would occupy that spot 😆
If you notice, the marching group will always be followed by a marching band to ensure the marching tempo is up to beat, and they're mostly school marching bands, and usually only top schools have marching bands and would be selected to join the parade. Back in the day, my school being the top school of the district, so our marching band would always be invited to join the state parade. It's kinda a big deal for the school kids and the teachers and the schools back then. I hope they still have that proud and accomplished sentiment that we had back then 😊

Nasional Malaysia Day were celebrated in every states of Malaysia ( 14 states ) on the same day every 31st August but the big event was held in Padang Merdeka Kuala Lumpur.

Admired your persistence. By the way, there is a war memorial close by to commemorate WW I war dead including those from Russian cruiser Zhemchug and the French destroyer Mousquet sunk by Kaiserliche Marine light cruiser SMS Emden during her daring raid in Penang Harbour on 28 October 1914.
