I must say I am from America and did not know about this movie before the Golden Globe, but now I'm so glad that it got the award. Many Americans said that they never heard of the song and that it didn't deserve the award, but in my opinion it was easily the best out of everything nominated. But what's more is that I was tired of the songs always being from American artists and showing the American culture and perspective, I wanted to see the beliefs and experiences of other cultures as it was an international awards ceremony. Has to be the most INTENSE dance number in film history. I have seen this countless times and I am still blown away by it.
It's basically a fight scene entirely through dancing, because the characters aren't allowed to throw punches here. The way they do that air kick and the white guy looks like he's been kicked in the face is brilliant. And the way Ram gives the "thumbs up" like he's about to punch him with those fists is just great, so much energy!

There have been many greater songs produced in India over the years, but none were even close to getting an international award. The Oscar was just the result of great marketing policy. The western world was exposed to the song a lot, and were captivated by the dance and catchy rhythm. And coupled with the woke culture of Hollywood that prioritises inclusivity, they were more than happy to gift the Oscar to an Indian song. I am just as happy as anyone else that a song from my nation won an Oscar. I only wish it was more deserving of such a great honour.

That's not true, in Spain we also have different languages and of course they would not be understood by people who don't speak them.

Clothing, food, music, dance, even climate... Plus there are 22 official languages here and more than a thousand different local dialects...
