I would submit it has much to do with their respective careers. Ford followed up Star Wars as a bankable Hollywood A-list star for 30+ years. In his view: Star Wars is very likely seen as just another few films he did. But it carries the baggage of the nerdiest, geekiest, most technical, most demanding fanbase in existence. Hammil's career went a different path. I imagine he had the same loathing for Star Wars (in the 90's, especially). But, as big budget Hollywood goes, these are among the only films Hammil has done. If the conversation is all about Star Wars, I'd much rather talk with Hammil. If it's just a day of fishing, BBQ, and relaxing; I suspect either guy would be a blast to hang out with.

That moment in cinema history, which was the most shocking thing most of my generation had ever seen in film (and still hasn't been topped IMHO), was something no one will ever forget. It was made all the more powerful by the incredible performance Mark Hamill gave in that moment. He had the courage and intensity to GO THERE, into the soul rending anguish of Luke, which I don't think the character really recovered from. Spectacular. Hamill is absolutely hilarious in this interview, and his Harrison Ford impressions are spot on.

I love Mark Hamill's impressions, it really does help to emphasise the story better with voices. FLASHBACK: My English teacher was right, different voices do help (and there was little old me worried about being laughed at, where I could have been as funny as Mark).
His voice was subbed in, so it's very possible the original actor in the suit read the line they thought it was and in the screening it would've still have been a shock to the rest of the cast.

It was such a perfect moment in the Star Wars movies. And it hurt me in my childhood to find out that it wasn't even Lucas' plan until while the Empire screenplay was being worked on. It fit so well, like Star Wars was just meant to be that way, and lended so much more meaning to the franchise. ESB remains by far my favorite Star Wars movie.

His voice was subbed in, so it's very possible the original actor in the suit read the line they thought it was and in the screening it would've still have been a shock to the rest of the cast.
They gave the line to James Earl Jones in post production. So he found out may be an year later or so.

It was such a perfect moment in the Star Wars movies. And it hurt me in my childhood to find out that it wasn't even Lucas' plan until while the Empire screenplay was being worked on. It fit so well, like Star Wars was just meant to be that way, and lended so much more meaning to the franchise. ESB remains by far my favorite Star Wars movie.
