I can see the hero car being the actual racing M3, considering the fact that games like ProStreet or Rivals allow you to own and race cars like the Aston DBR9, Nissan GT-R Proto, and Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo. Those games make the universe seem like these cars are more obtainable than in real life.
Before the E46 M3 "GTR" there was the Blue R34.. the one that was wrecked in UG2 first scenes... aka the flashbacks. Ironically had the same bodykit as Eddie's Skyline. If you look at the cutscene In Mercers chopshop youll see the BMW with significant scratches and traded paint on the rear bumper! Guess who love tapped you in the beginning of carbon causing the paint damage?

There is one detail that you missed about the M3 GTR in the events of need for speed underground two the cut scene shows you getting T-bones in the M3 GTR
The car comes from Darius in my opinion. You had so much heat on the supra, we ditched it in Silverton where Darius had the other car and stole it then took off.
Need for speed was the very first game I got on PlayStation when it released. I never got unbound, total let down. The only other racing gave I loved was Split/Second. Talk about action
