    Beautiful mate, I like your use of the live edge. It's subtle and not over the top. Most slab edge beds or furniture in general I've seen overdo the live edge and it looks bad.
    I made two single beds and a toddler bed in 100 year old reclaimed Blackbutt once and decided it would be the last time I use it. Damn hard stuff.

    Nice bed Jordan! I like your solution for connectors - I'd been looking at the typical clips and I've never been satisfied with the wobbly they have.
    You might want to try getting a thin kerf blade for your saw - the 1.75hp I find struggles a bit on full kerf on our harder aussie woods. I've got a cheapish 50t Freud blade and I was amazed as the difference in how much quicker I could cut through slabs of jarrah (and with less burning). And its red, so it goes faster too.

    • @JordsWoodShop
      @JordsWoodShop  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Jenkins Cheers paul! Yeah, I have been looking into them but first I need to get a dado cartridge :p

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've gone from handsaws to normal kerf and now need a dado in just a few months! A regular blade should be enough of a dado-like-kerf for what you're used to! ;)

    • @zhookeeper
      @zhookeeper 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JordsWoodShop I see a lot of dado stacks used on American videos, but have never seen them for sale in Australia. I wondered of there was an AU safety issue or something?

    • @JordsWoodShop
      @JordsWoodShop  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Brooks From what I have been told there used to be restrictions on dado blades in Australia, Something to do with not meeting safety requirements, but really the biggest issue with dado blades in AU/UK is most saws don't have a long arbor so don't support them.

    • @zhookeeper
      @zhookeeper 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh, the arbor length I had not thought about! Thanks. (Great headboard by the way. Wish I could find some timber like that lying around over here in Vic!)

    with the foot rail being flush to the outside, is there a gap between the end of your mattress and the rail? i'm designing a bed frame based on this idea (liking the sloped headboard), but i think i've gotta bring it flush to the inside.

  • @mprice7676
    @mprice7676 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Thumbs up, but you lost me on the second disassembly and taper on the headboard legs. I was all in after the first taper to match the headboard thickness, but didn't like the next taper. It just doesn't match the other angles...at all. Overall thumbs up, but again, I think you thought too much into it.

      +JordsWoodShop silly simple question mate; what type (or even brand) rag/applicator do you use please? Beautiful bed, I love the "low rider" look, unfortunately due to my chronic pain I cannot have that style of bed frame.

  • @avgpkg
    @avgpkg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    No photos with the mattress on the bed eh?
    ...is that because it covers the headboard lol
    The design is good but I think that headboard height might have been the oversight, it would have been ideal to have it up maybe 10-12 inches higher.
    What do you think?

    • @atown4428
      @atown4428 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are not biscuits, they are dominoes. The tool is a Festool domino mortising tool. It cuts a rounded mortise and you use a "domino" instead of a biscuit. You can buy dominos or make your own. They tool is great but expensive.

    • @josephgonzales5030
      @josephgonzales5030 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      atown4428 thank you for replying. I knew they were dominoes, not biscuits, but that machine looks just like a biscuit joiner. I looked up the Festool machine...must be very useful, but yes...$950 is alot of money.

      everything you can do with power tools you can do with hand tools. you dont need hundreds or even thousands of dollars in equipment to make something that is nice. with that said power tools definitely help with cutting down the labor and time.
