Dude I’m sorry it’s 2022 and I’m just seeing this video and I’m sorry!!! Please come back to doing videos. Your videos and setups were amazing. I hope you never gave up on being a reefer
Haha! Thanks! You guys didn’t see me behind the scenes 😜. But I think the only thing I can do is be positive and move forward. Hopefully build 2.0 is a success and I never have to go through this again.
Thats unreal bro. The amount of time, money, and energy into planning and executing every little detail of that reef tank build just to have the tank fail from manufacturer defect so prematurely. I don't think I would ever trust that manufacturer again...
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I can never get back the time and money I’ve put into the tanks. I’m hoping the new tank will be solid so I don’t ever have to go through this again. I’m considering getting it eurobraced.
Dude, I would NEVER use the same tank manufacturer after a catastrophic failure like that. Way too many other options that are tried and true and clearly their building expertise is not quite up to par.
Yeah man! It’s a tough decision. Unfortunately I can’t fork out more $$$ for another tank. I’m hoping the new one they make doesn’t fail. It might be a good idea to have it eurobraced for more support.
@@PetmaluLife I’d imagine they would be willing to provide more support measures considering your previous tank failed and it was brand new. I like trim but, if I didn’t have a black trimmed tank, I would certainly have the tank eurobraced around the entire perimeter. My system is 220 gallons so, a failure would be quite costly. Much more costly than a new tank from a different manufacturer. Could you get at least a partial refund for the tank you purchased considering the failure? Then reallocate the funds to a different tank manufacturer. Even if it cost you a few more $s, you’ll have piece of mind that it won’t fail. There’s just no way I could quantify my nerves having an identical tank to the one that failed like yours. There’s no dollar amount that can sum that worry. Especially as you begin to build the inevitable thousands of dollars in livestock that you’ll have in the tank long term. Not worth it to me.
Euro-Brace bro. Rimless are beautiful and all but my next tank will definitely be euro-braced for this exact reason. I hope you get things back on track. Everything about your build was so sick. Good luck.
Rimless isn’t the problem. Shitty manufacturing is. My crystal dynamics that’s euro braced just blew out a seam three days ago. Came home to smoke and water everywhere.
Sorry bro! My Red Sea 350 seam is almost gone in just two years. Your planning, thought process, and equipment is immaculate. I almost cried watching this one though.

I've made a few modifications to the design of my new tank and stand so it's been taking the manufacturer a while to finish it. I hope to get things up and running in a few weeks. Thanks for watching!
Hi Eric! Yes, I'm a few weeks away from getting my new tank up and running. The company is working on building the new stand for it. As for the outlet caps, you can purchase them here through Ace Hardware's site: www.acehardware.com/departments/lighting-and-electrical/switches-outlets-and-plugs/electric-plugs/3201233. I made the extension cords. You can find the cord portion here: www.creative-cables.us/pendant-light-cord/15291-orange-white-chevron-covered-round-electric-cable-rz15-8057730776271.html. ahhh dude that blows. Glad the tank and stand is getting replaced. Might be worth adding a couple of bar clamps to that list that are the width of the tank. Would work well holding the tank together if a seem pops
Hey man! I’m hoping my tank will be ready to be picked up from the manufacturer wishing the next week or two. I made a few modifications to the original design which has caused a delay. Thanks for watching!
Dang! Found your channel tonight and started watching earlier episodes and never even saw the thumbnail and title for this video. This is my second biggest fear in this hobby. Number one being a fire. I've thought about this stuff happening to me for over 15 years. I've often wondered if any reefer "gets out alive" or if there is always some major disaster that finally pushes someone out. Anyway, I actually came to the comments for one reason...Euro-Brace! Whatever you do make them eurobrace the new tank. I would never trust another rimless from them
Yeah, it was a sad day and I’ll always have the possibility of leaks in the back of my head. But, fortunately the manufacturer has made some updates to their construction and they will be eurobracing my new tank. Hopefully I’ll never have to go through this again. I appreciate your support!
Build 2.0 will be even better... just think of everything you’ve learned already. Huge 👏🏻 to your wife for being such a good sport about it all. Hit me up when the new tank comes and I’ll help you out (setup and some frags).
Stoked to see you on Reed Dudes today. I’ve definitely learned a lot. It’s amazing how there’s still so much more to learn. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Man this hurt me. The loss of equipment should be covered by them imo too. I would get a euro braced on this run. My previous tank was rimless and beautiful but it's only a matter of time...good luck on this next build!
I couldn’t agree with you more. Any company with integrity and understands what a reefer goes though to build a tank should would replace the equipment due to their product failing. I’m definitely considering getting the new tank eurobraced. Thanks for your support!
I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve experienced it twice. Go acrylic, you’ll never worry about it again. Advanced Acrylics in Orange County is the way to go. They built all my tanks, going strong now for over a decade.
Thanks! Sorry you had to go through it as well. I’ve heard great things about Advanced Acrylics. The manufacturer has made some improvements to the design of their construction, both tank and stand. I’m also eurobracing the new tank as well. Glad your tank is doing well for over a decade now.
Yes! It was definitely heartbreaking. I was fortunate my wife was home at the time to help minimize the damage. I’m looking forward to the new rebuild as well! Thanks for watching!
I did not place anything between the stand and glass. I’m hoping I won’t have to experience this again with my new reinforced double eurobraced tank. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your support. Yeah it was definitely one of the worst experiences ever. I should be getting my new tank in the next couple weeks. Can't wait to get things up and running again!
@@PetmaluLife good man, I'm looking forward to seeing your next build. You had it nailed on with this one so things can only get better! Keep us posted, notifications are most definitely on 🤙
@@PetmaluLife AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! just to let you know, your videos inspired me to start my own dream tank. i think i saw your control panel video and i was hooked. i now have a 85 gallon tank that is up and running. i almost have everything except for the corals. i am currently building a mixing station using my BRS 6 stage RODI i just bought. looking forward to seeing more videos from you.
I’m mind blown with the situation. I don’t know what could have caused it other than bad silicone. I’m hoping I never have to go through this again. Definitely considering getting the next tank eurobraced.
How thick is that glass. Are they using glass that’s too thin for a rimless tank? I would go with eurobrace or with a different company if I were you. Even if you get a new tank/stand, you gotta wonder if it will happen again
@@PetmaluLife Bro, I just subscribed to your channel. Saw your first setup setting up live rocks. So sorry for the leak. I also experienced it in my small tank and same with your case, the wife is the hero. You should definitely getting tank 2.0 eurobraced. Btw, Petmalu is very familiar to me as malupet.
What a bummer, damn right the manufacturer should do that if they are worth anything at all. They should replace your board too, they can't reimburse you for the time and energy, but they should replace all the hardware at the very least. This year has just been horrible, but we are all with you. Best wishes!!
Thank you so much for your support! The company has not disclosed whether they will replace the equipment. But IMHO, any manufacturer with integrity should. Them being reefers themselves should know how much time and effort gets put into a build. And to have it ruined due to a manufacture blemish, shouldn’t be the customer responsible to replace ruined equipment. Hopefully I never have to experience this again. Happy holidays to you and your family!
Everything you do is of high quality, from the videos you make, to the intricate details of your tank build, a lot of thought goes into the planning and you select the best equipment possible to give your fish and corals the best home possible. Don’t let this set back put you off, take this as an opportunity to make it a positive one, you can make videos of your tank recovery. One thing that surprised me is that your wife did a better job than your Apex in notifying you if the leak, you may need to look at the leak detection placement again to make it more effective...
Thanks for your kind words! I look forward to my next build and making it even better. I had my notifications off that’s why the Apex didn’t inform me even though I had my leak detectors placed. Regardless the flood would have still happened due to the size of the split that occurred on the seam. My next tank will be eurobraced to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Thanks for watching my videos! Have a fantastic new year!
Very sad, found your channel today started from the first video from this play list watched them all. Amazed by each one sure didn’t expect this. It’s been three months so I’m thinking we will see a new video soon?
Thank you so much for watching! I made a few modifications to my new tank so it’s taking the manufacturer some extra time to finish it. I hope to have it back up and running soon!
Crystal dynamic tanks are great tanks so the fact that you had a seam split boggles my mind! Did you not have them do the armored seams? You should have told them on the new tank they better put a euro brace! Because that wouldn’t have happened if it had one! Hope the next tank doesn’t give you any problems! Good luck buddy! Can’t wait to see an update!
Sorry to hear the news! Wish you all the very best for the next tank! Use of bracings for tanks such as these shall be more helpful and give lot more strength to the tank! I had similar incident with my tank last February and bracings helped a lot on the repaired tank🤞🙂
@@PetmaluLife yeah that would make me feel safer. I wish RedSea would eurobrace their tanks that are manufactured for USA. They eurobrace tanks for elsewhere like Japan.
@@hkn2718 The control board was made out of MDF so it got warped from all the water coming down on it. Definitely was a major project. I may go with PVC material for the next build.
Did any of the equipment survive the water damage? Might be a different ball game with saltwater but - i' have thrown expensive mechanical keyboards in a dishwasher, as long as everything is dried out to perfection there shouldn't be a problem.
Yeah, it was a very sad day. But it was better it happened then rather than the tank being all stocked. I'm looking forward to Build 2.0. It will be a lot better.
I feel you my man, it was about 2 weeks into COVID lockdown when my 200 gallon full SPS reef started leaking. Granted not as crazy as your split seam but still, a leak is a leak, and I only mention the lock down because all the reefing buddies that I'd normally be able to say "Help!!!!" for were not available to come over, so I basically spent the better part of 2 days moving things, luckily the leak was right along a bottom seam and I say luckily because the weight of the tank and water actually helped pinch it closed so it didn't leak too much as I noticed as the tank got emptier the rate of leaking increased. Now unfortunately I wasn't as lucky as you to have a tank manufacturer that jumped to my rescue to fix the tank that's under warranty, as they largely have ghosted me, so I still have a 300 gallon rubbermade tub on the floor filled with water, don't get me wrong it's a neat little lagoon look, but too much water flow makes it hard to see into it. That said, I would suggest a "bucket head" vac instead of a shop vac, it basically is the same thing you just put it on a 5 gallon bucket. They're WAY cheaper, and if you use your shopvac for salt water the internal crap will rust over time reducing the usable life of it. Also as far as fans, floor dryer fan is great it blows air right across the floor and are specifically made to dry up spilled messes.
I'm sorry to hear about your leak experience. I hope your situation is better and you'll soon be able to replace your rubbermade tub with an actual tank. Thanks for the suggestion on the bucket head. I'll look into to that. As far as the fan, yes, I highly recommend the floor fans as you mentioned. The fan I showed was just something one I had on hand. But yes, the floor fans are much better. Thanks for watching!
Omg!😮 I've just watched your video & it's absolutely made me feel 🤮 as I am in the process of ordering a rimless tank but now I'm definitely not. I'm glad you've got things sorted out tho, that is the only good thing to come out of this. Oh! I hope you apologised to your wife for telling her to shut up😏 because you for sure thought she was messing with you 😅 I hope all is well with your new tank ✌️🏴
Wow.. this video was so sad. I am so sorry for you going through this. I would think, at a minimum, the tank company should replace damaged equipment, too.
Im so sorry bro that really sucks. You have the best wife ever. For her to just not freak out and start take n care of the situation was great. Anyways good luck with the new tank its to bad you can't get a refund and go with something maybe a little more expensive and trustworthy. Make sure you euro brace this next tank your getting from them it would of bought you alot more time to react and probably not caused as much damage. Good luck man.
Thanks for your support! I agree with you. My wife definitely handled the situation well. I’d love to go with another manufacturer but unfortunately I can’t spend more $$$ for another tank. I’m hoping the new one they build will be flawless. I will definitely consider getting it eurobraced for added support.

Watching this is heartbreaking. Not only the damage to your home but the hard work being put into the tank, equipment, rock work, livestock and everything else around a dream tank like this really hurts. I hope everything is ok now.
I spoke to the manufacturer this weeks and it’s almost ready to take home. They just have to do some finishing touches. I hope to make an update in the next couple weeks. Thanks for following up!
Lost for words, started watching your build since last night and was so happy for you that everything was running so we'll till this episode. I am so sorry to hear that... You may want to put a few leak detectors around your tank or cabinet area and trigger the stop of all devices if such incident happens (I really hope not)
Thanks for your support and for watching my videos. I actually did have leak detectors programmed to shut down various equipment. However, in this situation, since it was the seam that failed, all the water came our so quickly that even shutting off the pump wouldn't help. I hope to never go through this again.
Thanks for your support. The Livestock all got saved thanks to my wife. I’m still unsure about the equipment. I haven’t plugged it in since the incident.
Brah, I'm so sorry you and the Wifey had to go through all that. Were you able to savage any of the electronics? OR should I ask, what electrocnics were a total loss? Stay up and positive, and I look forward to seeing the next update.
Thanks for your support! I still haven't tested the electronics. I'm still waiting for my new tank and stand to be completed before I test. I'm looking forward to the new build. It will be a lot better!
Such a bummer bro. I wonder what caused it to do that...I went with SCAquariums tank. Glad no one was hurt and your wife is awesome for not kicking you out! Lol
Yes, probably one of my worst days ever. I’m definitely appreciative of my wife handling business while I was away. Not sure what caused it but it definitely shouldn’t happen. Thanks for your support!
Unreal. Do you think the silicone was a bad bead? seems unlikely to me. maybe damage was done to it from cleaning or something? I am hoping that they are stepping up with helping you replace stuff..... i know ill never buy from them now. Good on you to stay positive. we will all be here watching tank 2.0

Hey man! Thanks for your support. Glad you're able to get inspired. I should be getting my tank in 2-3 weeks and will do an update.
Hey just curious, where did you store the tank? If it was stored in a garage somewhere then the heat can dry out the silicone.
Really sorry to see this man! Hope you can get a new one fast!
Thanks for your support. The manufacturer said 6 weeks min to complete the new build. I’m currently at week 3.
@@PetmaluLife oh bummer dude, fingers crossed for no delays.
So sorry for that disaster
Thanks for your support. I look forward to moving on and finishing my build 2.0.
Euro brace.....so many benefits! Sorry about your tank! Medal of freedom to your wife!
I agree. Considering my next tank to be eurobraced. Yes, my wife did a great job!
Sorry to hear about the tank! I’m sure the next tank will be amazing and trouble free. Take care. 🙏🏼
Thanks for your support and positive outlook. Looking forward to it as well. Hapoy holidays to you and your family.
Any updates on the new tank?
I made some modifications to my new tank and stand. I'm expecting it to be completed by March.
Omg dude this is heartbreaking 😓😓😓 thanks for the tips on every reefers nightmare look forward tonseeing this rebuilt!
Yes! It was definitely heartbreaking. I was fortunate my wife was home at the time to help minimize the damage. I’m looking forward to the new rebuild as well! Thanks for watching!
I am very sorry for you. Do you want to share the manufacture of the tank that leaked
Thanks for your support. The manufacturer is Crystal Dynamic Aquariums.
My god sorry for your disaster ... Full of courage from France
Thanks for your support! I appreciate you watching all the way from France.
Holy crap!! Did you place a rubber cushion between the tank and stand? Helps even out the stress.
I did not place anything between the stand and glass. I’m hoping I won’t have to experience this again with my new reinforced double eurobraced tank. Thanks for watching!
Awwwww mate!!! I have just watched the entire series on this build. I'm absolutely devastated for you man.... have you managed to get this sorted?
Thanks for your support. Yeah it was definitely one of the worst experiences ever. I should be getting my new tank in the next couple weeks. Can't wait to get things up and running again!
@@PetmaluLife good man, I'm looking forward to seeing your next build. You had it nailed on with this one so things can only get better! Keep us posted, notifications are most definitely on 🤙
hey, so what ended up happening? i hope this setback did not stop you from having your dream tank.
Just got word. Tank is arriving on 4/24. About to get my hands dirty again. Stay tuned.
@@ocnbrze2003 That's great! Looks like you're on your way. Keep me updated on your tank.
Oh NOOOO!! They better compensate you for other damages as well. This is unbelievable! So sorry to see this man.
Yeah, it was a very sad day. I agree.
How are you doing man? And news for ep12?
Hey bud! I just visited the manufacturer and they're about 2-3 weeks away. I'll be doing an update once the tank is ready.
@@PetmaluLife Still waiting for your build. Hope everything is all good
Ow man...how did it happen? Is the floor level/tank level what about euro bracing next time around the top for extra support.
The glass is 1/2” thick. I’m definitely considering getting tank 2.0 eurobraced. I never want to go through this again.
Any news on the restart?
Just got word. Tank is arriving on 4/24. About to get my hands dirty again. Stay tuned.
@@PetmaluLife yeah!
Unreal man. So sorry.
Thanks. Yeah it was a real bummer and set back. Looking to bounce back soon.
Would love to see an update on your tank bro. Hope all is well
I am so sorry to hear that. Hopefully, build 2.0 is going to be better.
Thanks for your support. I look forward to a successful build 2.0 as well!
A large picture frame clamp or sash clamps would be great to put around the tank to hold it together.
That sucks buddy, that's alot of work and preparation, not to mention the electronics.
Sorry to hear the news! Wish you all the very best for the next tank! Use of bracings for tanks such as these shall be more helpful and give lot more strength to the tank! I had similar incident with my tank last February and bracings helped a lot on the repaired tank🤞🙂
Thanks for your support. I’ll definitely considering getting the next tank eurobraced. I never want to experience this again.
Euro braced tanks are the way to go in my opinion. Good luck on the new build.
Thanks for your support. I’m definitely considering getting it eurobraced for the next build. I never want to go through this again.
Is your next tank going to be eurobrace?
Definitely considering getting tank 2.0 eurobraced. I would feel too uncomfortable not to. The flood would always be in the back of my head.
@@PetmaluLife yeah that would make me feel safer. I wish RedSea would eurobrace their tanks that are manufactured for USA. They eurobrace tanks for elsewhere like Japan.
I love your control box. In the process of building mine. Why can’t you reuse control box? Is it that damaged? So much work and effort into it.
@@hkn2718 The control board was made out of MDF so it got warped from all the water coming down on it. Definitely was a major project. I may go with PVC material for the next build.
@@PetmaluLife yes that would last forever
Did any of the equipment survive the water damage? Might be a different ball game with saltwater but
- i' have thrown expensive mechanical keyboards in a dishwasher, as long as everything is dried out to perfection there shouldn't be a problem.
I wish you all the best bro!
Thanks for your support. Looking forward to build 2.0.
Nooooo. Dang dude that sucks. How’s everything going now? Is it up and running now? What caused the leak?
It's looking like my new tank and stand will be completed in March. The silicon in front of the peninsula failed and separated.
Holy shit bro. I’m almost in tears here watching you go through this. Sorry man.
Yeah, it was a very sad day. But it was better it happened then rather than the tank being all stocked. I'm looking forward to Build 2.0. It will be a lot better.
Just curious, did Red Sea take care of you?
Waiting for a restart.. 👆
Yes, I can't wait!
Oh! I hope you apologised to your wife for telling her to shut up😏 because you for sure thought she was messing with you 😅
I hope all is well with your new tank ✌️🏴
Wow.. this video was so sad.
I couldn’t agree with you more. My wife definitely handled the situation really well. I’d love to go with another manufacturer but unfortunately I can’t spend more $$$ for another tank. Hopefully the new one they build will be flawless. I will definitely consider getting it eurobraced.
Wow so sorry to hear that, it was sad to watch
Definitely a sad day. Thanks for your support. Looking forward to a successful build 2.0.
2020 needs a STOP BUTTON.
Yes!!!! Please!!! Or fast forward 100000x.
Watching this is heartbreaking. Not only the damage to your home but the hard work being put into the tank, equipment, rock work, livestock and everything else around a dream tank like this really hurts. I hope everything is ok now.
Was this a Red Sea?
Eurobrace should do the work, and it doesn't look bad at all!!
I agree! My new tank will be eurobraced. Hopefully I never have to experience a leak again.
Hey Jonathan! When‘s the version two build series coming? I’ll be your first view haha; Hope you and your wife are recovering well from this!
I spoke to the manufacturer this weeks and it’s almost ready to take home. They just have to do some finishing touches. I hope to make an update in the next couple weeks. Thanks for following up!
Been 6 months no updates
Dang man.. this suuuuuccckkkkksss!!!
Any updates?
Hey bud! I just visited the manufacturer and they're about 2-3 weeks away. I'll be doing an update once the tank is ready.
We need an update brother
Dang! It was coming along so well! Sorry for everything hope the life stock is okay did your equipment make it okay?
Thanks for your support. The Livestock all got saved thanks to my wife. I’m still unsure about the equipment. I haven’t plugged it in since the incident.
Woww!!! man !! Sorry for you ! Dam !!!
Warranty no ?
New tank and new year
Yes! Can’t wait to move forward with the new build. I want to see it up and running with coral.
Sorry to see all your hard work got destroyed bro. Who is the tank maker so i know not to order from them?
Thanks for your support. The tank was made by Crystal Dynamics. I hope to never go through this again.
Who was the manufacturer?
Such a bummer bro. I wonder what caused it to do that...I went with SCAquariums tank. Glad no one was hurt and your wife is awesome for not kicking you out! Lol
Yes, probably one of my worst days ever. I’m definitely appreciative of my wife handling business while I was away. Not sure what caused it but it definitely shouldn’t happen. Thanks for your support!
Waiting for V2.0 !
I just spoke to the manufacturer and it’s almost completeS I should be doing an update in the next couple weeks.
@@PetmaluLife Keen as!
Unreal. Do you think the silicone was a bad bead? seems unlikely to me. maybe damage was done to it from cleaning or something? I am hoping that they are stepping up with helping you replace stuff..... i know ill never buy from them now. Good on you to stay positive. we will all be here watching tank 2.0
I bet the surface prep for the caulk seam was bad and didn't have good adhesion and eventually failed.
Thanks for your support. Definitely could be bad silicone. It was only up and running for a couple weeks so it’s shocking to see it happen. I agree and think they should replace my equipment that got damaged. Any manufacturer should do so in this situation. Looking forward to building 2.0.
Man this hurts to see happen, but shows the importance of bracing a rimless tank.
