Hey y'all. We grow celery here in the Houston area. We can even just plant the base of store bought celery. Old goat is up there between the onions over Mama Hoss
I got my onions yesterday and already planted them! They have not had any transplant shock! I’m looking forward to the harvest! I have beans growing, tomatoes, cabbage, kale, collards, beets, cucumber, eggplant, a bunch of squash, peas, carrots, lettuce, radishes, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, and probably more in forgetting. My garden is kicking butt!
Informative show. I'm nurturing my broccoli, cauliflower and carrots with high hopes. That old goat is getting friendly with the onion sets on the shelf behind Sheila.
I am planning bulbing onions for spring this year (intermediate day, you've shipped my seeds), but for most of my cooking needs I use perennial green onions. They give me onions year round here in zone 7a with no storage issues, no timing or planting hassle, and since I just cut the tops rather than pulling the plants, they keep coming back indefinitely. The issues of watering, weeding, and crusting mentioned here can all be at least partly addressed with mulching.
Fresh chopped home-grown celery leaves cooked with sliced potatoes and onions in olive oil are really good. Also lamb curry cooked with home-grown celery leaves is very tasty.
My onions are scheduled for delivery tomorrow! Looking forward to planting. The Old Goat is standing between the onion start bundles on the middle shelf.
I loved this show (as with all the others)! But I needed this onion pep talk. I’m so excited and can’t wait to get my Hoss bundle and get them in the ground. I see where the Old Goat is, but since I won my Get Dirty socks last time and I’m getting my strut on in them I’ll give someone else a chance to get theirs. 😆😆 Love you guys! ❤️
Good morning. Looking forward to getting our onions and getting them in the ground. Field is mounded and waiting. Mr old goat is hiding in the onions behind Ms Shelia. Thank y'all and have a blessed day.
This is it, by golly! This is the onion year I'm going to stick to the fertilizing/watering schedule and growing really great HOSS onions 🙂 Thank y'all so much for a wealth of practical info and awesome plants/seeds. ps planting Sunday and already have my wall calendar filled in with feeding dates! Dr Joe fertilizers should be here in plenty of time.
Hello I am looking forward to receiving my order in zone 7. I have my areas reserved for them. 🤩. Mr goat is hanging out between the onions near Mrs. Hoss. Blessings 🙏🏾
I see the old goat on the shelf behind Sheila. I am waiting for my onion order. If I plant my onions in raised beds, should I allow 8" spacing between my onion transplants? I will be using netting, so hopefully I will not have too many weeds or bugs bothering my onions.
Hello quick question I just planted my HOSS onion transplants that I got today however I was going to give some extra to a friend of mine. How do I go about preserving them for about a week till I’m able to get them to her
store them in a cool, dry place with good air circulation: Container: Use a mesh bag or net shelves to allow for air flow. You can also use an old pair of tights. Location: A semi-heated garage, attic, or uninsulated closet are all good options. Avoid basements, which can be damp and cause rot. Temperature: The storage temperature should be 32 to 40 degrees F. Humidity: The relative humidity should be 65 to 70 percent. Inspection: Check the onion sets regularly for signs of rot or damage. Remove any sets that are starting to go bad immediately.
I got my Onion sets from Hoss today is it Ok to trim the tops or is it necessary before planting? I noticed the ones y'all are handling in the video the tops have been trimmed.
Hey yall … I figure I will get my onions today … I got a bunch of seeds from my roselle hibiscus… I waited till they started popping open to harvest for seeds … When do yall start you roselle seeds for the spring planting
Last year , the onions that I planted in my lazy garden grew bigger than my other onions that I planted in raised beds and when it froze , they did not freeze
@gardeningwithhoss Our problem is it gets hot so fast in the spring they don't mature if there not in the ground at the first of November. They told me this morning that I may not get them till after Thanksgiving which is way late.
When I was a kid someone gave us some onions, about the size of a baseball, to grow them consistently we buy the smaller ones n quarter and let the dry a couple days and in the ground they went. Consistent baseball size onions, no fuss. Anybody have any idea what variety they were.
For Zone 6, the best onions to buy are "day-neutral" onions, also called intermediate onions, as they can thrive in a wide range of conditions and are well-suited to this climate; popular varieties include "Yellow Globe" or "White Globe" which are both considered good all-purpose onions.

We haven't got our onions yet. We're three weeks late getting them in the ground.
We will have all hands on deck shipping out this week. The onions will be ok if not planted way into December.
