I have both (I am a full time corporate videographer). The FX-3 was my first purchase and the top audio handle and full frame sensor was a must for my workflow. I own an FX-6 and pair the FX-3 as my B-Cam. The FX-30 is my C-Cam. My advice to someone looking at both is as follows: unless you are a paid professional content creator or you have the extra $2200 to spend, go with the FX-30. Plus you can get three or four APS-C lenses with the extra $2200. Plus you can get APS-C lenses much cheaper than full frame lenses. There is no doubt this is the best value for a hobbyist, a professional filmmaker or content creator starting out. If you are doing paid work, allow this camera to work for you in order to upgrade later. I started with an A7III and all of my cameras were bought with the money my clients paid me.
I just don't understand why Sony doesn't put the FX30 sensor in the body of the NX80 or AX700, which are basically the same camera. Because the new camcorders that Sony announced Z200 and NX800 looks and feel like the Sony NX80
It might have something to do with the size of lens that would be required to make it practical, but I'm with you. When it comes to camcorders, they really like making them with these crazy zoom ranges such as 20 - 30x zoom, but honestly maybe something like 7x zoom with f2 - 4 lens would be excellent. I wish they would try it, but every time a new one comes out, they are disappointing.
@@MichaelWTurner The TH-cam community is a compete madness. There are adding more and more plastic junk to this cameras, to make them better, instead of telling to Sony to put a sensor in a camcorder body, like they did form the 1900 to 2010.
I have to agree with you. We have different cameras for different purposes and my business partner already owns both the FX3 and FX30 and we still use Blackmagic (tons of latitude in B-Raw for editing) for our bigger productions which we will then have camera operators for. I just bought my FX30 4 days ago and I love it. I already own an A7SIII. I also knew shutter angle was coming to the FX3 and FX30 and yes, I see the writing on the wall for the A7SIII, but it is still an amazing camera. Both have their purpose. If you are shooting in trying lighting conditions, and know your settings then yes, an FX3 or A7SIII, but if not, especially outside there is no real loss in using an FX30. Cine EI is also great. The FX30 has two features that the FX3 doesn't have, and they are the variable shutter speed to exactly dial in shutter speed and the ability to do both sound and video through USB C for live streaming. The FX3 will do video, but no sound.
Hi Michael. I have the JVC HM220u, I cannot login to my wifi IP address on mt laptop. it wont accept any Password I have.. What password is it looking for and is this a common problem?
I have an F30 and for what I do it’s perfect. The rare times I film lowlight the FX30 has not disapointed and for the rest of the time I enjoy cheaper more compact glass
For me, there’s 2 special lenses that made me go all in for Sony apsc, and that’s the Viltrox 27mm & 75mm f1.2 Pro lenses. The image is unbelievable with those lenses. Hoping they make more focal lengths in the Pro series
@@MichaelWTurner absolutely! Man you haven’t heard of them? Dude get ready to have your mind blown. Each one is roughly $550ish USD, right now they only have a 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2, man it will literally transform your apsc camera. Every review I saw before buying them were raving about them! Highly recommend them
I think people are spoiled with the lower megapixels and noise reduction in the FX3. With the FX30 you will have to be skilled with your settings same as other cameras. Great vid.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize those two features were unavailable on the fx3

I sold that camera a very long time ago. I don't remember exactly, but almost positive it was listed in the manual
@@MichaelWTurner Thank you for getting back to me.. I am slowly getting it figured out. losing lots of hair in the process

I agree. It's lowlight performance is more than adequate for me

Are these AF too? If so how do they perform? The reviews are excellent for them
