    Greetings. Love the S/V. Glad you are willing to show us this boat. That seems a lot of space to dedicate to three pieces of equipment and four fuses. Kind regards, Dave

      Thanks. It was space allocated for it. You don't want everything crammed on top of each other when it comes to your electrical in case something goes wrong it's easy to locate and pin point.

    Really appreciate you showing the possibility of polishing the acrylic panel. I did this on my BMW head lights and worked wonderfully. But understand when the panel is too far gone. But great that you showed! Also you must be an outstanding electrician.

    Hi guys, just a quick note to let you know that Patrick Childress lost his fight for life yesterday due to complications associated with covid19. To the few sailing channels that sparred the few seconds in their vlogs on this platform to help spread the word of the support both Patrick and Rebecca needed while Patrick was fighting, a big thank you for showing your support to these fellow sailors.

    Good thing you do the lithium installtion for other vessels. Wish our yacht was here. Then we could do the same. I received report that I might have lost my 4x AGM batteries drawn to 0Volt due to failed MPPT controller. I am awaiting report to see if the can charge them back up, but I have little hope.
    More importantly, I am considering moving up to 3,5kw (45kg) single unit Supercapacitor battery. It is more lightweight, compact, incl MPPT controller and build-in converter 220v/110v. It charges full in a fraction of the time, has 1,000,000 cycles and can be drawn 99% (in which case the back-up battery kicks in and disconnects the battery). It comes with a 10yr warrantee. I did not buy one yet. I was quoted $4200/R69,000 (alas 8 weeks delivery) - so if my batteries did pack up, I am seriously considering jumping the LiFePO4 option. What do you think?

  • @mandmmilling3716
    @mandmmilling3716 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could put a disconnect between the alternator and the buck boost. That way you can isolate side to side.

    • @livingwiththemaias
      @livingwiththemaias  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both sides are isolated from one another , we have two buck boosts, feeding the single house bank.

    I’m assuming you also ran them up to full charge, and watched the amperage slowly go down, and then shut off...for times you motor for a long time. That’s always the scary part, knowing you don’t want to overcharge....Food video guys!

    • @livingwiththemaias
      @livingwiththemaias  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You cant overcharge with the buck boosts if the parameters are set correctly so you gotta kinda know what your doing. Lithium are awesome but they also take alot of research and aren't as plug and play like AGMs. You guys know. Sending lots of hugs your way 🤗

  • @ianm2719
    @ianm2719 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Guys. Love your videos - well done and keep it up.
    Ricky, when you ran the motors they did not sound happy to me. Perhaps some sound quality issues, but they sound very much like they are detonating and quite badly at that (pinging), perhaps an air fuel ratio issue or more likely timing a bit too fast - all of which is software controlled I agree.
    It could also be that they over fuel slightly when cold - not sure, but worth checking as detonation in diesels us a really bad idea.
    Cheers

    Hi guys. So those buck boosts are like an external regulator, but you don’t need to modify the alternators by adding a field wire and invalidating your Vetus warranty?
    I use an external regulator and I had to modify my alternator by adding a field wire, so the unit can override the alternators own regulator and take control and charge my AGM’s with the correct 3 phase stages and voltages and also faster with temperature compensation on both alternator and batteries. Love your videos and been following from then very start of your journey......your progress and achievement is off the scale! Just incredible. 😁👍🏻

So me wife said jokingly if we go back to level 5, we could escape the madhouse and join the diaspora. When are you planning to leave CT for the Bahamas? Please do fill us in.

Not too worried about hurricane season, if we leave early we might stop off in Brazil for sometime until the season is over .

    Unless an alternator is made for commercial use (say like a real truck or machinery) don't believe the ratings on the label. Yeah, they can do about 90% of what they're rated but if you try to do that for any length of time, they'll fry. Industrial alternators have big cases, strong bearings, big fans, and good electronics. Probably not good to ask them to do too much while at idle (low rpm) either. what is the running temp inside the engine compartment, electronics in there don't like it too hot. A car or truck engine get lots of fresh air while driving.
