    My rig in the 80's was a Mesa MKIII Combo with dbx160x, ADA STD-1, SPX90 and an Effectron 1024. That 160x was the heart of it all!

    Awesome video. My favorite is definitely theme 2 (tea time). I played it over 100 times in a row. I’m not even exaggerating. It’s just that addictive. I’ve always loved these Lukather, Landau, Huff tones since the first time I heard them and I still loved them to this day.

    Kristian, this is just amazing. I grew up listening to Huff, Landau, Paul Jackson Jr. and Lukather, and always tried to achieve this sound. You are a great guitarist and your sound is great. Thanks for the videos.

      [Gadiel Rios] Don't forget Alex Lifeson of Rush (especially the Hemispheres album), and also Tim Pierce who played for Rick Springfield in the 80's, for their tri-chorus tones. If you can find it, pick up Rick Springfield's "Beat of a Live Drum" video... Tim Pierce has an original Dyno My Piano tri-stereo chorus and uses it on his solo from that live concert. Bad@$$ chorus stuff... and Pierce is hot on that entire live album. Lifeson's chorusing on the Hemispheres album is magical. The break part in "The Trees" (the middle section before Lifeson's ride) is absolutely magical because of the tri-stereo chorus.
      Nothing like a chorus to create mood... nothing! If you know a chorus well (especially a tri-stereo or multi-chorus) it can work wonders for mood, atmosphere and tone versatility.
      Another great chorus is the Strymon chorus or modulation pedals which also have multi or tri-stereo modes. It's the closest thing to the 80's tri-stereo chorus out there... and MUCH cheaper! Strymon makes excellent quality effects too.
      Anyway... enjoy chorusing. Kristian has it down. Of course, with a real Tri-Stereo chorus, a DBX compressor, an eventide Harmonizer and a Strymon delay pedal (excellent pedal) it helps! ;-) Kristian's a great player. I miss the melodic, really "musical" sound(s) from the 80's.
      I have no clue why 90's "players" and beyond have such attitudes on choruses. Maybe because it reminds them of the 80's and makes them feel inferior to the players from that era! :-P

    And with the release of Tricera Chorus Pedal by Eventide, all these 80's sounds might be in reach from pedals, without rack. Anyway you perform "the real thing" and it's good to hear that again, after all these years...

      I all depends on the part you want to play and how hot the signal that you're feeding the DBX is. Most of the time I just left the controls at 12 o clock. That's a pretty good all-around setting.

    Kristian, sir. Love the videos and can't wait for the next one. I have a question perhaps only you can answer. A few months ago I was fortunate enough to buy a Dyno-My-Piano 618, which I think is fundamentally the same thing as the unit you are showcasing here. It was made to run on Japanese voltage (100vac) so I've been using an external stepdown transformer to bring outlet voltage down to japanese voltage safely (120vac here in the states). I imagine you probably had to do the same to bring it down from 230vac in Sweden?
    Anyway, there is quite a bit of transformer noise coming through the audio signal and I simply don't know how to get rid of it. Did you have this problem / were you able to figure it out? Tried balanced cables, various grounding techniques, rack isolation, etc. etc. etc.
    Cheers, Henry

    • @KristianLarsenGuitar
      @KristianLarsenGuitar  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Henry. Thanks man!
      Congrats on finding a Dyno.
      Mine was modded by Pete Cornish to handle 230v.
      I think he swapped out the entire transformer.
      There's definitely some hiss once I engage the TSC but nothing that's too intrusive. I'm using mine with standard 1/4 jacks but I've used it with XLR's at one point. The hiss was about the same from what I can recall.
      Might be a good idea to have a tech see it.
      These are old pieces of gear after all!

    • @henrymcardle
      @henrymcardle 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KristianLarsenGuitar Kristian, thanks for the thoughtful (and obviously knowledgeable) reply.
      Pete Cornish, geez Louise! Guy’s a legend. Although I guess it makes sense that a professional application requires a professional solution.
      I’ll look into a similar modification. The internal transformer appears to be easily replaced, so perhaps a company like beamish or studio electronics repair in my neck of the woods could handle it. A few hundred bucks wouldn’t be much compared to what these are worth nowadays.
      Thanks again for the reply, and look forward to any new tracks you might share with us next year. -Henry

    • @KristianLarsenGuitar
