James Pruitt the ending was season 8 which was not definitive, but. I guessed that’s what they would do, a bit like Bourne, he just kept going, Live Another Day was just a cash grab, seemed rushed and tbh he was getting a bit old for some of it, not that he wasn’t great in it, but he was a lot better in some other seasons. The end was just meh, nothing really
I would have been happy if they did this in season 8 instead of turning him into a monster first and an enemy of the state in this he died and got to live a normal life for a while
This is my favorite finale on 24 up to the pure last moment. Closest thing to a happy ending on 24. I love that the season ends where it began; the train tracks.
True. But would be terrific to see how President Tom Kirkman brings Jack back from Russian Gulag and they save the world again. Can be universes of 24 and DS united?)
Man, he looked so cool walking away with those sunglasses into the sunset. I love much of the later seasons but if this was the end of the show I'd say it was pretty damn fitting and I'd feel quite satisfied with it.
Then the writers said, “What if we make Bauer’s life a living hell?” From Chinese Prison to giving up love to facing criminal charges from the DOJ to being infected with a deadly toxin to finally being branded a traitor by his own country, they really succeeded.

Rest in peace to a very good man. 😔 huge respect for David Palmer ✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️
After 24: Live another day ended, I somehow felt compelled to watch this scene. Both, feel like 'the end' and it's sad that a show as good as this, with the characters that we grew attached to, had to end. One of the best shows for sure!
No other actor would have been as good as Kiefer. To me the best tv show ever and keep on watching the wholes series once a year and know of others too. He is great in Designated Survivor and also a series that will go from strength to strength!.
He is especially great there when Kirkman becomes Bauer-esque, angry or suffering. But when Kirkman discusses judges appointment or budget articles, it is not impressive. You always expect: now Kirkman will stand, take his gun and go torture and send to hell those f--ng conspirators. There is only one man who can greatly fix conspiracies in the US; Jack Bauer, and it is always his longest day.
The ending already foreshadowed a simple truth that Jack had yet to learn at this point - he will never stop turning around, waiting for a shadow to jump at him. Some parts of him even craving it, thanks to his death wish born from depression and PTSD. His mind was used to being in constant mortal danger - that screws with your head, naturally.
This final scene reminded me of myself when I finished my last year of elementary school in the sixth grade, the same year that 24 season 4 aired. When Jack said goodbye to all his friends and left his old life behind to start a new life in order to avoid prison and death was like me when I said goodbye to my classmates and teachers before we parted ways and went to different middle schools. My goodbyes to them felt just like Jack and Palmer's phone call since it was the last time I'd probably see any of them. Even the walking off in the sun rise part said it for me too. Walking off into the sunrise to start a new life and a new beginning..... and then season 5 changed everything.
Michael Sinclair Wayne Palmer never screwed him over, but then again he wasn't president long enou, but I doubt he ever would have. Jack was overseas when Daniels was president and Heller gave him a pardon for actions at the end of season 8. President Taylor was Jack's ally for the most part, but got selfish and blinded by a her goal for a peace treaty, but she came to realize her mistake and apologized to Jack. Logan really is the only president who actively antagonized Jack and was a real threat to him
I loved this show as much as the rest of you. This would have been a perfect series finale. Jack is saved by a former President and disappears to live out the rest of his days in a quiet anonymous retirement.
While I'm glad the series continued after this season, there's a part of me that thinks how interesting it would have been if this served as the series finale. Jack on the run. Everyone except Palmer thinks he's dead. Jack walking into the sunrise, getting ready to begin a new life.
It's sad that from this moment on Jack's life will never be the same. He always has to watch his back and can't really trust anyone. You'd think after such an epic conclusion to s4 that the seasons after would be terrible, but they did such a good job transitioning from Jack's life off the radar straight back into business with a fresh new plot in the best 24 season ever.

Season 5 was unforgiving and more personal that's why it was so awesome while seasons 1 to 4 was the end of the original era of 24 Season 5 was the start of a new generation of 24 but a powerful start imo.
