- Frank did his job.
In fact, the almost five-year-old border collie did his job so well that he and his handler Wendy Azqui would take home the $10,000 win during the 2019 Calgary Stampede World Stock Dog Championship finals on Wednesday.
Frank and Wendy were the second last team to compete but that didn’t matter to the duo, who completed the sheep herding task in just 1:47, beating out the next best competitor by 25 seconds.
“Oh my gosh. I was so excited. I was jacked up and all of that energy went right to my dog,” the Wyoming dog trainer said after her win. “I love the energy here, that’s one of the reasons I came back. It’s a great place.”
Azqui competed in the competition for the first time at the Calgary Stampede last year, but she didn’t make the finals. She didn’t let that deter her this year.
“Honestly, I just went out there with a blank mind and tried to let things unfold in front of me so I didn’t get in my own head. I actually didn’t even look at the scores. I happened to see (Milt Scott’s) was a good one, but other than that, I tried not to watch.
Looks like this little one is doing the work of several cowboys on horseback. He deserves an Olympic medal.
And you just know that dog gets lots of love and attention at home.
Border collies are very smart . We have one now that is getting really close to the end and I know when she goes I will grief like I would for a family member. She has been such a blessing. Even now she has to walk down to the mail box with my husband to make sure he is safe. She can only walk halfway now but she lays down and waits for him!! She loves everyone she mets!!
I’m sorry to hear that. It’s tough knowing she will not be there with you forever. They are an amazing breed, and a great family dog. Friends of ours just said goodbye to their 13 year old Border Collie go a couple weeks back. She was a beautiful, smart dog. She loved learning, and could do lots of tricks. Macy’s daily routine was to try and herd the family cats, but I’m not sure she ever succeeded 😊😊.
@ I think the only thing she has herded since we have had her is food!! Our two year old great grandson had a p& j sandwich and stepped outside with it and was holding it up ( high for him) and she thought he was giving it to her because his high was right at her mouth level! I have never seen a child get so angry,I cried laughing , of course I made him another sandwich but it was not the same as the first one. I still laugh when I think about it. After that they became best friends. She is so smart our Grandson was stationed in Thailand and had been gone about a year and I ask her if she wanted to see Brett and she got up and looked all thru the house for him. When he did finally get home she would not let him out of her site she was so happy to see him!! So yes I will miss her!!!
How old is she? Mine is about 3, her mom is a pitbull boxer, an Australian shepherd mix, and the father is a pure border collie. She is the most beautiful pet I have ever owned, and she is very loving.
@ about 12 years old. Someone moved off and left her and she was going around getting people’s garbage, the town was small and the police were looking for her to kill her! They don’t have an animal control officer so the police take over that job as well. I told my husband to tell the police to leave her alone and for him to start taking her food . Long story short he did and about three weeks he opened the truck door and told her to get in. The vet said she was about two or three years old then! She loves to play frisbee, and if there is a ball to be had it’s hers, but she’s getting where she can’t run any more. Like I said when she does go it will just break my heart!!!
Condolences.
I just had to bury one of mine that I pulled from the womb years ago. It’s never easy.
Border collies are just amazing to watch. They're such good workers.❤
I had 1 for 14 years. What a wonderful friend she was! I miss her so.
I love watching Border Collies work. Amazing.
i wished my kids listened like that😂😂😂
That’s a good one
Do you expect them to and hold them to it? Because the trainer does 😅
I Wish I could listen like that.
Oh god yes!!!!!!
Have you tried nipping your kids heels?
This dogs is amazing - the intensity and focus is off the charts - i can feel it just by watching
What a Show.... What a Dog.... Glad I got to see it...
Even more exceptional given it was not an easy trio of sheep.
Had one that was pulling out of the group.
As soon as my Australian Shepherd heard that whistle she turned her head looked towards my phone
Mine just came into the room and looked at my phone. She has some training but her natural wit is amazing.
That was awesome !! That doesn't happen without a great handler.
What an absolutely amazingly intelligent dog .
congratulations to the both of you .
Good job to the handler & to the dog good dog ...
This is absolutely incredible!! How amazing!
FYI... Milt Scott and Bob did the same course minus the horse trailer in 1:42 at the 2023 Calgary Stampede.
Excellent petformances.
I took my 4 Border Collies to Herding School.. 1 ran into the bush to hide, 1 layed in the shade and didnt move, the other jumped back into the car and wouldnt get out and the last one, the littlest started to herd, got to a point and said "what the heck Im outta here" i got home after 3 hours of "schooling" they ran into their aircon room, flicked the switch to the tv remote, then they ignored me the rest of the day.
Yep, they're a smart breed... why should they run around in the heat chasing sheep when they can be at home watching tv.❤️❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️
No one should EVER hurt animals! Dogs are so wonderful, they have feelings emotions and love for us
EVER? Come on what if an animal attacks your kid? What about a flight on an aircraft for the convenience of being in another location?
Don't tell them what happens to the sheep
Noem
What a smart pup! 🥰
My grandfather had a border collie named Penny which was an incredible dog,won him many prizes over many years, she ended up dying an awful death bitten by a brown snake protecting her family, long may she be remembered and loved ❤️🐕🦺👁️👁️😎😇🐕🦺❤️🙏🦘🐨🇦🇺
How intelligent the dog is. M in happy 😢. Wow
Great job! Bravo!
Amazing level of concentration and purpose
I’m 42, born, raised and still live in Wyoming. I’ve never heard of Clearmont. It must be a tiny town.
Damm this beer is good ! Great job !
Good job!
We have sheepdog contests in NZ and Aussie. But in open country.
We have some here in open areas. Awesome to watch.
Made me tear up
Amazing
What a great dog!
Well done!
Amazing !!! 😊
Thats so gangster
I would love to see more competitions like this at US rodeos, i think the crowds would love it!
Frank for president!
Border collie: go this way, no go that way. Sheep: we are going you don't have to tell us twice.
Very smart life, i have mind exactly same colour ❤❤❤❤
Pretty cool!
That's nothing, in Idaho I seen a dog herding the horses with the cowboys on them while letting the cows do their own thing.😂
So cool.
Working sheep with a Border Collie takes the work out of the day !
She is practically smiling.......
Girl pretty smart too
Can I get a bet down on the dog?
Amazing a dog and the owner took home the top prize in a dog competition. Imagine my surprise! 🤣🤣
Only three ???
Australian breed, amazing to watch these border collies
That was wonderful!!
I thought only the commonwealth countries did sheep dog competition.
What?
Canada is a Commonwealth country. This competition was during the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada.
We do Shep dog competition in Spain aswell.
Without a doubt, Gov't employees don't work as hard as this collie.
❤❤❤❤
Border Collies & Blue Heelers work in sync; unlike humans whom tend to nada FOCUS; it's SO REMEDIAL HUMANS MISS IT.....😂
Ba ram yew!
Myślę, że owca też może się nauczyć, gdzie ma iść.
those sheep were paid actors.
Odds re the dog wants to eat that evil whistle.
This is a pale comparison of the original show " One Man and his dog," which was broadcast on british TV during the 1980s.

That’s not even that good, go watch the guys in Ireland and Scotland with their dogs..the dogs almost do it without commands with zero mistakes.
всю работу делает собака... самка человека, совершенно бесполезна!
Well, she IS directing the dog thru her whistle. I wouldn't say she was useless.
Very good video, what a dog
