- Will never take a boat again...until the return journey and one more island hop! But that's how we felt at the time, very sick on an extremely choppy boat ride from Guernsey to the island of Sark! This video features that trip!

I lived and worked on Sark back when Le Damme de Sark was the ferry, the crossing to St Peter Port used to take an hour. An acquaintance asked if I wanted a lift to Guernsey one day, I didn't realise he had an ocean racer, the crossing took 9 minutes.
I did it last year,very pleasant journey.
Wife and I went across to Sark in 2001 and it was pretty choppy going over from either Guernsey or Jersey, can't remember which one because we visited each in successive years 2001 and 2002. It was rough going over, but the return was even worse with the waves splashing up and over the windows of the ferry. I had taken a travel sickness tablet but that return journey was the longest 30 mins of my life. I didn't throw up but felt ghastly. When we got back to our hotel I made myself sick and immediately felt so much better. Never again!

Blimey LOL. That's a flat crossing for us. You should try it when it's rough or come with me on my 20ft boat in 3ft waves. Or stay on my boat overnight, when I go there for a week and it constantly rocks in the dark of night. 😂😂😂

Ah not really, but I'm glad you liked Sark anyway. There's a lot of places to explore on Sark. I have quite a few videos I've done there, though on an older camera, including the Sark ambulance out on a shout. 🙂

Oh Simon, so sorry you had a bad boat ride. IF you ever go on another boat, take some ginger candies, real ginger, it's great for that nauseous feeling you get. Looking forward to your adventure on Sark to see if that boat ride was worth it.

Nice video of that crossing. I must say though that was a gentle one. I worked on Brecqhou in 1996 as a carpenter when the Barclay brothers built their castle. We used to commute every day from Guernsey on that very same boat.
One day the wind picked up to a force 9 gale. The crew literally threw each one of us onto the boat to get us back to Guernsey. It felt like it was going to sink. It was so bad the captain passed round a bottle of Rum for each man to have a swig. By the time it got back to him the bottle was empty. Mind you, it was a lovely way to go to work on a fine summer’s day.
I feel your pain! I always get sick when the water is rough.🤢

I get sea sick in the bath so I would be hopeless.
Plus, I have emetophobia so being so close to other spewers would be my worst nightmare.
I’m just not about that life.
This brought back memories, because the same thing happened to us when we went from Guernsey to Sark and back again! One of the worse crossings we've had to do! I would love to go again, but might wait until they've built a runway!!! 🙂

Being on a boat can get you dizzy, i still enjoyed the views and shots you took.
Sea Sickness is horrible. I was a SCUBA diver for 20 years and often struggled with it. I did build up a bit more resistance over time but I dreaded rough seas. Sark looks like a great place, looking forward to seeing more of it (and I hope you have a calmer trip back).
I felt a bit sick just watching this! That was one choppy trip! I did enjoy watching it from the calm of my chair!

the island of Sark looks cool from the little bit you showed and I take it was rough waters while on the boat going there, yes it does make for an unpleasant ride but that ferry boat wasn't the biggest either, take care until the next one

I was on a ferry to Catalina Island here in California. It was during a storm and everyone on the boat was 🤢. It’s not a good feeling. The scenery was beautiful though my friends 🐼🐾👏

Love boats. I (Maria) actually grew up between a small island and the main island of Puerto Rico and used to take similar boats all the time. Nabol hates them and prefers to take a small plane. I can see that it was a little rough for Simon. Club soda and lemon is all you need. :-)

How long was the journey? Motion sickness is no fun!
The journey is 50 minutes but a new faster ferry was supposed to have started in May which would have cut the sailing down to 30 minutes.
