I like how quiet the countryside becomes during a snowfall, as though all the animals and birds huddle down, and the snow absorbs and deadens sound, leaving you to focus on its presence alone. Very nice video!
Shocking to see California under snow. Usually, more like scorching heat & wildfires! Interesting example of climate change in action. Great hike with great host☺
@peonycottagebotique4154 Josh has been encouraging me to start one. Pretty much just launched it a couple weeks ago with a video he helped me produce added last Sunday. I can't believe I'm approaching 1000 followers! People are so kind to me!
@@popshiking I think that's fantastic. We always enjoy hearing your perspective on your trips with Josh, especially the history of the places you visit together. We stumbled across his channel with the Route 66 journey. When my parents married in 1961, they drove from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to San Jose where they hoped to settle. My Dad was from N Ireland though and could not get a job so they drove back to Canada BUT I remember them sharing their memories of the road trip and about how exciting it was to be on the famous Route 66. My husband and I were talking about that one day, Googled Route 66, and up popped your journey with Josh. We thoroughly enjoyed it and all the others we've watched. Best of luck with your channel!
Congratulations on your new channel Pop's. We have been watching your son's channel for about 2 years. Hey about 35 years ago when we moved to Pasadena Ca. it snowed one day during a cold snap and the area between Pasadena & Altadena got so snow I was amazed. Being a DOT highway equipment operator snow was a common thing on the Angeles Crest Hwy 2 but not on the streets of Pasadena. Well it's starting to pour down now here I'm glad I'm retired no working on these Southern California highways in the rain. Can't wait for some old guys adventures. l am planning a 5-6 day solo driving trip to Zion NP. then take US 9 to US 89 into Page Az. and then to the Grand Canyon NP Flagstaff, Williams and maybe Tucson 🤔 . Can't wait for you to reach 100,000 Subscribers🎉 on Hiking with Pop's
3:31 That was a great shot! I can hear the howling of the wind. That's what I used to remember of blizzards in the Rocky's when I used to live there was the howling of the wind. I was given moonboots to walk in the snow then ( I was very young).... I wonder if people still use moonboots? .....Blizzards are peaceful in their own way, right? Great job!❄🌨
@1oldvato782 Yeah it was crazy to have that much snow that day. I love Zion although I was too chicken to go out on Angels landing. Page is such a perfect spot. Like the hub of a wheel with all the amazing spots around it. Josh and I were just there and took in lake Powell, antelope canyon and horshoe bend then over to the grand canyon. Did a bit in Tucson but as a cowboy wannabe really enjoyed Tombstone. Thanks for following!
Hey Pops! This is a great video. You did an awesome job of showing us the once in a lifetime snow in Southern California. I would suggest that you tell everyone exactly what area this is. Thanks!
@christopherlands2705 Yeah you are right in noticing that as for our part of the world that like never happens. I have other pics from that day of lemons on my tree covered with snow!
Yay! I'm excited for your new channel. Last winter was crazy! We got slammed here in Utah. We got a record-breaking 87 inches! I was shocked when I heard SoCal got snow too! 😲
Great video, so glad you started your channel. I was the 398th subscriber less than a hour ago and you are getting ready to eclipse 500. But I can't get the notification bell set to notify me for new videos
@farmerhatfield9684 Not sure what's up with the notification. I'll have a new video coming out next week, so hopefully it will give you a heads up. Thanks for following!
I have lived in So Cal, moved from WA state, and last years weather was the craziest I ever saw. Last year as the first time I saw so much water in the Owens valley cuz of so much snow, followed by a heatwave with flooding from so much snow melt. But lake Shasta got so much water. That made me happy to see. It was so horrifyingly low in 2022. My friends in idyllwild got buried in snow last year. The snow was up to their second story windows. They couldn’t see their truck or SUV. It was rough on the dog trying to find a dry patch to pee. He kept getting buried in snow over his head when he’d dash out. lol. Thanks for posting your unique hike
@kellyjohnson3617 Funny dog story. Yeah, the last time I was at Shasta was really intrigued by the stories of how the lake will fill then go way down and then fill again over the years.
With that type of visibility it is very similar to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore in certain parts in November or March with lake effect snow.
Great video!! Hello from Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦. Just joined your channel 👍. Love your son’s videos. Canada’s province Nova Scotia just received over 100 cm of snow; don’t think any hiking took place 😄
Very stunning; almost surreal! 🙌🏽💙🌷
It really was an amazing day! Thx for watching.
This a really great video to watch
It was an amazing day. Probably once in a decade kind of thing.
Great seeing you Pops
@ChauNguyen-rn9oj Best wishes to you!
So Nice Sir :-)
Appreciate you stopping by!
So awesome! That happens in the Las Vegas valley every few years. It’s beautiful, but no one knows how to drive in it!
So true!
Beautiful hike, thanks Pops
@user-kq6cd8gl7y Thanks so much for stopping by!

So true! I love the quiet and beauty just after a snowfall
Cool hike…
Hehe, I see what you did there.
Bravo for getting out and enjoying the beauty of this unusual day you've been given
Yes, thank you
Very beautiful! The mustard plant covered in snow is gorgeous
It really is!
Shocking to see California under snow. Usually, more like scorching heat & wildfires! Interesting example of climate change in action. Great hike with great host☺
@carlapires7732 Yeah that's for sure. Thanks for the kind words!
Hello Pops!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Congrats on your Channel!! Can’t wait to see more hiking videos!!!

We didn’t know you had a channel. Enjoyed seeing your snowy hike from 2023. Now we’ll watch the rest and subscribe. :)

You are so right about the peaceful nature of a good snow fall. Thanks for stopping by!
What an awesome adventure
Thanks for the video...must be slippery navigating the trail.

@jimfunchess Right near San Bernardino. Thanks for the encouragement!
Wow. I've never seen it like that in SOCAL
@suzanne1116 Yeah I know! Was so unusual. I just had to get out in it.
Great hike in the snow! Where is East Ridge? I live in Beaumont and would to do this hike.
@loriemarez It is in the hills near Loma Linda.
Love your narration!
Thanks I appreciate that!
Loved the close up of the snow covered plants
@christopherlands2705 Yeah you are right in noticing that as for our part of the world that like never happens. I have other pics from that day of lemons on my tree covered with snow!
That is incredible! I want to come see it
@Blackfilmgild Hey friend! It was a crazy day as you would definitely know. Hope you are doing well.
Nice what a amazing place.
@freddyramos4778 was such an unusual experience!
Congrats on your new channel! 😊
I appreciate it
So excited Pops has his own channel!
@kristenm1516 Thanks so much!
Very relaxing video. I hope you will share more of your solo hikes in the future.
Thanks, will do!
Great to see your new channel! Love your content from Through My Lense and looking forward to seeing more. 👍
@cambysesofca Thanks so much!
Love you guys…my favorite adventure was to follow you at Dry Tortuga’s.
@karenigo That trip was pretty amazing. If I could do it again, I would spend the night camping there. I bet the stars are amazing!
Beautiful, but was it slick? Any special shoes or equipment required for snow?
@JaniceStewart863 It actually wasn't too bad. Didn't wear anything special other than my boots.
LOL! It is pretty, but I live in Minnesota and that is NO blizzard! Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Hahaha I’m sure it’s no comparison.
Yay! I'm excited for your new channel. Last winter was crazy! We got slammed here in Utah. We got a record-breaking 87 inches! I was shocked when I heard SoCal got snow too! 😲
@psychlover42 I cannot imagine 87 inches! That must have been quite a challenge. Yeah was so unique here!
Great video, so glad you started your channel. I was the 398th subscriber less than a hour ago and you are getting ready to eclipse 500. But I can't get the notification bell set to notify me for new videos

Wow- cool video! Older hiker here as well, what time of shoes do you use? I need very supportive shoes with arch supports these days.
@user-cn6de7x2o I discovered Merrells a while back and that is pretty much what I have stuck with.
