I do know all about these as I have friends that live around the area. I’ve never had one but smithy would certainly give one a try!! 😂 top video Greeno ….Smithy
Well that pie looked very good and the barm cake looked fresh. A great lunch choice. You will find Haffners and Oddies online. Oddies is a family business over 100 years old. The potato pie is very similar, a wet mix of potatoes, obviously, onions and a hint of mince beef but delicious. The business has cut down on a lot of items they once made, cream horns, savoys, Parmentiers, etc. But the bread is fresh, doesn't fall apart when buttering but not cheap. Haffners is a butcher shop but the pies are well known, well filled and reasonably priced. Football fans love them. The other week I got a steak and kidney pie for £2.60. I had that with mushy peas for lunch and I was so full I had boiled eggs and soldiers for tea later. When pies like the Wigan one and the two I have mentioned are available, it is very tempting to eat more than one every couple of weeks. Good to see proper bakeries in Northern towns still. Simple, filling , tasty and fresh. Don't think I could eat a Wigan kebab these days but would have done when I was younger. Glad you enjoyed it. 👍
Yeah, those traditional shops deserve to do well. Making quality, affordable food. Maybe not the healthiest, but in the main the tastiest food aren't ha ha!
@@GreenoEats Oddies remained open during lockdown but to survive had to cut the menu. None of the shops closed down and they are in the sort of communities where people don't have cars. A lifesaver for some elderly folk.

Hi folks - properly up North today - in WIGAN ! Have you ever had a Wigan Kebab?
Not the healthiest food in the world, but blooming tasty !
Otherwise known as growler. More Manchester though and Bolton. Not heard Wigan call it a growler. Bolton people mostly call it a pie barm.
The foods that are most unhealthy are normally the most tasty 🙈

@@melsneaker27 a Growler is something very different down where I am from 😂😂😂 A pie barm, well that makes sense, does exactly what it says on the tin!
It’s also known as a slappy, more so around Bolton. You gently compress the sandwich which makes it easier to eat.
Doesn't that make the piping hot filling spill out everywhere though??
@ Not if treated with kindness and deep affection, better with ketchup though.
